Save Money, Use Your Car To Tow

- Hey all, a bit of a controversial topic, but you don't need a truck to haul a dirt bike, dual sport, ADV bike, ATV, or really anything in general as long as its within the tow capacity of your car. My Ram 1500 gets absolutely terrible gas mileage even unloaded, so that's why I tow my CRF450RL with my Toyota Matrix and get 30mpg doing it! You absolutely don't need a truck! I've done this with my Tenere 700, WR250R, DRZ400, and so on. It works and it works great! The Aluma 548BT trailer being 350lbs also really helps matters as well. With the economy the way it is right now and everyone saying the housing market and stock market are going to crash, why not try and save money in any way you can?
If you don't have a trailer, go to harbor freight and pick yourself up one of their cheap trailers there! The 62666 1195lbs or the 62671 1720lbs one would work just fine for this! Appreciate y'all for watching and let me know what you think! Развлечения
I've got a Rav4 Hybrid with a hitch rack. Drove that rig from NC to CA and back for $500 to go race at Glen Helen. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that using my truck to haul bikes is silly. Looks a lot cooler, sure, but I can literally go ride more if I can spend less on just getting there.
I guess this is quite a typical setup in Europe. At least in Scandinavia; most of our "hauling" is with a typical car less than 3200 lbs, hauling a trailer up to 2000 lbs. We don't have that many pickups and simply we don't need them. Especially in the weekends. Bushes, old furniture, beds. sinks, bicycles, dirt, wood and general junk. That's all year around.
In the summer we see caravans, boats, materialls..
I however have at the moment two Toyotas and one Chevy truck, just because I am passionate about cars (and trucks .... we just call them cars as well).
Yeah when I was in Ireland I saw cars towing all the time. Here in the US, you could go your whole life without seeing a car tow. People just don’t do it here.
It’s unnecessary to buy a massive truck for hauling a dirtbike or ATV.
@@OgreMoto Indeed it is! I think most bikes are put insinde vans here. Toyotas, VWs, Peugeots, Renaults.
Even Hyundais!! And Transit vans😃
For occasional trailer towing the value of a uhaul trailer is pretty solid, especially since you don't have to store/register/maintain it. Like 35 bux a day last I remember so even a $500 HF trailer would take 15 trips to break even
I forgot its actually $15 - killer deal for the occasional trip
I just did it for $24 for 24 hours with insurance. It is an amazing deal, and they got motorcycle specific trailers
Unless you got a CVT transmission that’s in a lot of Subarus, Nissans and Toyotas then you wanna be super careful you will roast your s#%t Especially if you’re climbing big hills
Our 2014 Corolla has a CVT and it has 160k. We took it from Wisconsin to the Rocky Mountains loaded up with me, my wife, dog, and probably 400lbs of luggage. It did just fine. It could easily tow this setup.
I don't have a truck and use a trailer every time. 38mpg on the 4 hour drive (roundtrip to nemadji). And then I sleep in my wagon for extended trips.
Is that Knobby Ridge? It's too bad they logged so much of that area.
Yeah it is knobby! We’ve been wanting to get back up to nemadji it’s been forever since I’ve been up there!
I’ve seen someone make a video about towing his ATV with an old Mazda 3.
just because one can, doesnt mean one should
I flat tow my vw dune buggy with a mazda 3
Have you ever tried putting your Tenere 700 on the trailer and towing it with the car?
It could easily do it. It’s only like 150lbs more.
Isn't that a dual sport?? Just ride the bike to trails then ride it home.
Depending on how hard you're riding, it can get pretty tiring trying to ride home after a long day, and you can bring more things with you to the park.
@@WyattWeadge yup, and riding what’s essentially a plated dirt bike 1.5 hours one way all highways is exhausting in itself.
i was trying to think of a whitty comment, but i cant. this is just dumb. of course you CAN pull stuff with a car. but, they are not designed for that and anything more than light, occasional towing is not a good idea with a "regular car". the braking capacity will be over tasked, and it will cause undue wear on the transmission, the vehicle driving dynamics are totally thrown off( moreso than a truck) because of the smaller/ lighter tow vehicle. its physics.
