Would you be able use a real persons budget that is in a lot of debt. I myself have 80k in debt and it would be very motivating to see how someone else budgets when they are literally paycheck to paycheck.
It gave me a great insight about how more income does not mean more spending. I loved the fact that you saved 50% of your income, so it’s possible! Yay and thank you!
After 3 years, it's funny how I KEEP LEARNING knew things!!! I love it! I was $36.82 off for my June budget. My Hubby asked what did that mean and then he said "Oh, well, it's not $300, don't worry about it!" Love Love Love!!! :-) 💙💜💙
Been using BBP for 3 months (6 pay periods as that's how I track) and last pay I finally saved extra money!! A large part of that is cutting down on takeout and getting myself under control during covid, but im finally on track for my next electricity bill 😍 thanks for this miko!!!
I love your videos. You are so inspiring. I recently started budgeting and my debt free journey this past May. I'm proud of what I have done so far. However, sometimes I get discouraged because I feel like it will take forever to get out of debt. It is amazing what you have you have accomplished.
Love your videos! This is my first month actually looking at the category breakdown and because it was my first month using a budget planner. I spent the most money on my food category which wasn't a surprise. I am spending more on groceries,(no eating out this month)and also because I counted the tip that I gave because I used an online grocery delivery service. I definitely wanted to leave a tip because the shoppers went above and beyond. I have decided to still do the online grocery, but I will do the pickup option so that I don't have to pay a tip, so that will lower my food category.
Hi Kumiko, I want you to know that I am so happy that I found you on RUclips. I recently found you in mid July. I also love the chemistry between you Ryan and how you have taken her under your wings and are coaching her along the way while also working together. God bless you!
I love analyzing spending data and I have found that comparing months side by side is not always helpful because not all months are the same because of usage changes, quarterly and semi-annual bills, and special events. It would be good to compare month to month for certain categories set up for analyzing habits and behaviors (for me, that category was my social coffee consumption. I hate to think how much i was spending on that when I wasn’t tracking it). While I don’t use your method, I indeed track everything and I would say that its good to compare certain categories monthly and other categories quarterly and what those categories are would depend on a person’s individual values and goals. I enjoyed this video and appreciated the real numbers. 👍
Please do a video for when you use unplanned sinking funds in the month. I have a sinking fund for my car that I had to use but I didn't account for when did my budget in the beginning of the month. So happy I found you!
I add mine to the paycheck tracker as income, then add the sinking fund spending to the expense part of the paycheck bill tracker (adding it to both spots ensures your budget evens out and reflects that you are spending from that fund rather than your regular paycheck).
I'm not a cash spender, but we had to use our car savings unexpectedly last month. I include "savings" as an income category, so it shows where the money came from when I spend it. I hope that helps and makes sense 😅
I truly enjoy these videos. I can't wait to celebrate when Ryen is debt-free too!!! I was looking in my makeshift budget binder and smiled when I saw pieces of the P2P workbook and TBM trackers :-).
I learn so much more by watching your video's over and over and taking notes. I enjoy watching .y bills each month go down. I also have a snowball to pay off my car faster. You have helped .e so much.
Love love watching these. I was looking for June! Ty for doing this! Monthly close out was too hard/overwhelming for me. So been doing it with my biweekly so about the sametime with my paycheck and that works for me so far! Can’t wait for the new workbook!
I love your budget videos! The end of month, start of month ones are my favorite along with the real life budget. I haven’t seen a start of budget month one in a while have I missed it?
I think it would be really helpful to compare months in different years. August has hit us hard in the budget and my husband says it’s every August. 🤷🏻♀️ but as we haven’t been tracking to really know it’s hard to say if this August has been worse than others. The more videos I watch the more it makes sense, thanks for the great video Miko and Ryen!
I was writing down expenses that happen every month on a calendar. Then I have the left over total for the month and for each week of money for variable costs. I started tracking and I found some fraud recently on my checking account. Good to pay attention. I was tracking for Sunday to Saturday because it is easier to see on calendar. Each of those I consider a calendar week. I get paid Thursdays. May not work for some people, but it works for me to visualize. A short week may carry over to the next week of new month. It helps see how much of paycheck I have for say dental bill for example that I had.
I like seeing how you do it. I think it is cool that you do different colors of highlighters to represent the categories. But just be careful with assuming. Just because you see a lot of one color doesn't mean that the value of the totals are going to be more. I think it would be helpful to put this into an Excel spreadsheet and then create a pie graph.
I’ve been following this process since the beginning of July, so I’m very new to this. I found the first month took up a lot of my time but I know it will pay off in the long run. I’m from the UK and I’ve found it’s quite hard to pay in cash for everything (but that could be due to the pandemic). I’m hoping I can use cash envelope system going forward as I can see the benefits over using debit cards.
Miko if you want a video series with starting with someone new to BBP, IM YOUR GIRL! Tons of topics! Out of control budget, self employed, business owner that’s way to mixed with personal and starting at 40!
I agree to what Jessica said above. I love when she rotates people, everyone's situation is different. The different scenarios are a cool way to see what everyone goes through.
Miko - How do I use the expense tracker to manage 5 accounts? There aren’t enough pages. So I have my main checking account that money goes into for bills. Then I have a sinking fund account that money deposits automatically into from my check for the things that don’t come up every month. Then I have two credit cards that I use for food, gas, groceries, eating out for one and the other for everything else. I also have an emergency fund which money is transferred to monthly. Most of my spending is on my two cards. I may need at least two pages of the expense tracker for one card. How would you manage this many accounts or more with only four pages of expense trackers? It would be nice to include more than six maybe in 2021 for people who have more accounts or lots of transactions. It would also be nice to have a page after the monthly calendar that you can do your monthly budget so you know you have enough money coming in and then have the budget by paycheck sheets. I get paid 2 times a month so don’t use the other pages. I really love the bbp workbook. I’ve saved so much money this year using your method.
Do you consider every little deposit into your checking account as income? For instance if you return something, if you receive a payment from a friend, etc or just your main things like paychecks, child support, alimony, etc. Thank you so much! :)
When you have unexpected income, such as sales from Mercari, how do you incorporate that into your budget? Do you go back and include it as incoming income for your budget and change the “actual” total? I just closed out my budget for July but I deposited an unexpected check. I get paid twice a month.
Hi ladies, can you refresh me as to which video it is that talks about accountability where are you track your CUSHION... I see it on your bill tracker but do you list it on your expense tracker's also? I forgot and I have it in the back of my mind but I never physically take it out...thanks...
I am finding it hard to save for my envelopes since I'm not using cash anymore. I'm spending more through my card but not saving for my allocated areas. I was thinking of using separate sub-accounts to save for these areas.
If I start my budget at the last paycheck of the month, would I close out my month the day before the last paycheck of the next month in order to start the new budget the next day? Thank you!
I got a paycheck very late in May (May 29th) that I used for June. I counted it as income for June. Is that correct? Where do other people catergorize end of the month checks?
I'm wondering about that too. it's not a huge problem where I am, but I also dont want to contribute to the problem either so I'm leaning towards cashless right now 🤷♀️ except for the cash I take out for sinking funds
I do as I like it to match my bank account balance (or the amount of cash I have) exactly. It helps me to keep an eye on my balances and you know exactly how your money is at any given point. I think it also help with reconciliation when you are closing out your budget at the end of each month.
Hello, you said you receive child support. Do you use it as a paycheck or do you make sure it all goes towards your son? I just started your method and trying to get everything organized. I’m debt free 🎉 So my thought w child support I’m currently putting in $50 a month for 529, which I could probably raise it since I’m bent free. But with child support I decided to divide it up first make up difference for 529. I think at most you can put $2,000 a year. Also I take the rest and divide it up towards Christmas, bday and school supplies, school clothes and such. 😊
Hi miko i know this seems so easy to you and love everything about it..I'm still having trouble getting my cash envelopes together..do you pull out all the cash you need from the bank and leave in just enough for the bills?? I'm confused about it..pls help 😕
Yes, you’ll pull out cash for envelopes and keep the right amount for bills. You can also build a “checking account cushion” so that you aren’t getting down to $0 after your bills come out each month with no wiggle room. You can add “cushion” to your regular expenses and calculate that into your paycheck each time, if that’s something you’re interested in! Hope that helps ❤️
@@chiknlittle thank you i guess what i don't understand still is why you need to pull out ALL the money from the bank instead of taking out what you need for the cash envelopes and have a cushion still.
Hi, sorry if I’m reading this wrong but you only need to withdraw cash for your cash envelopes only. You should have money left in your bank account to cover your automatic regular bills and to build up an emergency fund cushion in your account. Kumiko has a free online course on her website that should help you to understand her cash envelope system (Here’s the link) . courses.thebudgetmom.com/p/budget-blueprint. Hope this helps. :-)
The Budget Mom Yes, please introduce Ryen also, Miko! She is such an integral part of The Budget Mom business and family, and we love her. Plus, if she’s in the video, she should be introduced.
I have a hard time understanding what we spend each MONTH when my husband gets paid biweekly and for groceries for example, we budget $200 bi weekly, and gas is $40 for me bi weekly, $80 for my husband. I’m not sure how to calculate that as monthly income. Usually he has two paychecks a month and 2 extra ones per year which we pay our bi weekly expenses out of (gas, groceries, eating out, etc) and the rest is extra for debt or savings
I get paid bi weekly and i just compare my paycheques to each other because monthly is too confusing to me (and not overly relevant for me). I get paid every second tuesday regardless, and my bills are set up for that pay rotation, so for me the month doesnt really matter. (I close out every pay period, not every month)
Jadie Cakes Thank you! Budgeting bi-weekly for two checks a month works well for us but if someone asked me what I spend on groceries monthly I get confused haha I mean I guess $100 x 4.333? I guess it doesn’t matter. Works for me the way I do it but I guess I can’t really make up a “monthly” budget the way others do it
Brooke Loffredo: we budget every two weeks for each pay period. To add up monthly we just go through our categories to determine how much we spent in both pay periods. We do not budget the first to end of month. We don’t like budgeting that way. Budgeting each pay works best for us.
Kumiko and Ryen make an excellent team. I love to watch them bounce off each other. They are so funny!
I love these videos with Ryen. It's really interesting to see the whole process on two different people + she's such a sweetheart :)
I love Ryen too!

Would Ryen consider making a detailed paycheck budget with envelope stuffing, I would really like it💚

Question! Is the starting balance the amount you have left over in your checking account on the 30-31st of the month?
GreT video, what is the workbook? Who makes them? 🙌🏻☺️
The Budget Mom does the starting balance for the first of the month also include the sinking funds cash? Like the Christmas envelope?

Thanks for sharing this kind of stuff
