  • In this video we pressure check the gear box, make a new device to hold gear boxes. I have also been using some new degreaser that I will share with you, spoiler alert, it works really well. We get one step closer to making the old 35HP run again.

    Good idea on the 2x4 lower unit holder and vise. If a person does not have a big vise or has one that is to small I found that if you already have one handy is a B&D Workmate vise table. I have one of those that I use for the smaller outboard lower units like the 9.9 and 15hp that I have. I usually have to remove the prop and it goes into the vise easier. That way it frees up my big vise to use if I need it.

    The fixture you made to hold the lower ends was really nice. The good thing is that it is portable and can easily stow away in the corner until needed. The tool tray was also a nice added feature. I may try a bottle of that degreaser.
    I work on a lot a lawn mowers and some outboards. I find that the magnetic trays from Harbor Freight are nice for holding steel bolts, nuts etc. They come in different sizes.

    Great video!
    I've used my Work-Mate for working on lower units on my Mercruiser Outdrives over the last 30-years. But your lower unit mount allows easier access to slides in and out to hold the lower unit and easier access to the prop shaft and fill and drain plugs.
    Oh yeah, I found the best price for the SuperClean Multi-Surface All Purpose Cleaner Degreaser is at Walmart. Another place to get it is at O'Reily Auto Parts.

  • @kentyler966
    @kentyler966 3 года назад

    Careful with the Super Cleaner. Found at Walmart for about $5.75 for a quart bottle. I read the cautions.
    Right below the quart I saw a gallon bottle of the cleaner for $9.00. I think the gallon was a concentrate, the jug listed 3 different dilution rates. Started at 3 parts water to 1 part product. ¡Not sure the dilution rate for the product in the pump spray bottle. I guess I would read all the the directions and start cautiously. Careful with paint and mentions aluminum as well. Don’t be afraid, just understand what to expect and experiment a bit.
    I was blown away as I watched the motor man spray and wipe of greasy gunk off his motor.

    I use super clean on everything including degreasing my truck engine and it works wonders on outboard motors. I've been using it for years.
    To super charge it add gas to it in a wash tank and soak your parts in it for a few minutes, brush it clean . The guys at napa auto parts call it the Redneck degreaser. Gas and super clean wont mix. So you have to "shake it up" if you will and enjoy how powerful it is to work with.
    Super clean comes in spray bottle, one gallon, 2.5 gallon and 5 gallon. You can also get it in 50 gallon as well.

Took the lower unit off thinking that would free up the lever but it is still stuck. What do you think I need to do to free it up and get it back in neutral? I would really appreciate any feedback!

    Hey Mike, Love your setup to work on these outboards. Is that a wind mill generator you got going? You need to show that and how it works. I'm having a blast working on the 1957-58 Mercury Mark 10 outboard. It has an automatic transmission. Can't wait to take it apart someday to see how that ticks.
