  • In this video, I demonstrate how to Tie-Dye a couple Black Tees by first removing color and then adding color back in. In this video I use two products, Rit Color Remover and @ 22:30 Out White Brite to remove color from a black tee, then I prep and add a rainbow of colors back into the tee.

    WOW! I've tried reverse dye a couple of times with bleach and have been so disappointed that the removal leaves the shirt with a rusty brown color - - interesting that that happens with black - - other color shirts end up with white markings which is fine. I think at some point I'll try either Rit or Brite White - - I prefer the shirt end up a tan color instead of rusty brown. Thanks so much for sharing this with us - - you're a constant source of inspiration!!! Wishing you love, light and peace!!!!

      Thank you and you are welcome... and yes, I prefer both of these to bleach, unless I am going for that rusty brown color ..... but for adding color back in, White Brite and then Rit are my new favorites ... have fun!!

    Thank you sir! I just did a shirt that I bleached, the dye was beautiful and I was thrilled! It was a shirt for a coworker and I was really stressed to do it right. Sadly as I was about to give it to her I noticed some bleach damage and was so upset that I had somehow missed some bleach and it had eaten the material. I am so glad to see alternatives that don't seem to have this issue and will be moving away from bleach and the toilet bowl gels. Much appreciated, I'd never heard of White Brite before!

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 года назад +1

      You are welcome and yes, I had moved away from bleach years ago due to the damage it can cause it left on too long.... I only recently tried it again to make the videos.... but I did not leave it long enough to remove enough color to re dye.... so I was thrilled to learn of these other products and then to be able to share what I learn with others .... for me, the only time I will bleach is if I want the orange brown look... otherwise, it will be White Brite ( And Rit for a while since I have 15 boxes stored up LOL) Have fun!!

      @@MrTieDye Finally warm enough to try this! It's still in washout but it appears the the stuff soaked right past my folds! Didn't think I used too much of it but it's possible I had too hot a water temp. I suspect these are toast. Should've tried one or two first and not 4-5 lol but I expected it would be a bigger ordeal than it was and I didn't use nearly as much powder as I feared. ugh!

    Just a quick tip- When I'm putting a wet dye shirt (or shirts) into a tight spot and I don't want different colored areas to touch, I use a little bit of plastic wrap, parchment paper, or foil in between. It works great!

    I love your videos; I can always count on your videos to be great guides for whatever project I am doing with tie dye. Another great color remover that I recently tried for a different effect is Dharma's color remover. In that removal process, they recommend a tbs. of soda ash and a bit of detergent in the water. I like to do a pleated tie and add a bit more detergent to the water than instructions say and let the color remover lap into the pleats for a shorter time frame than usual. It leaves a bit more black doing this, but it looks textured for a different effect. Beautiful video, Mr. TieDye!

    Quick question. How come some shirts bleach out close to white and some only bleach out to gray?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 года назад

      a lot of it comes down to how they were dyed and then what is used to remove the color .... it is a mystery to me... back when I used to do it with bleach... I had all kinds of results... and the same with the RIT and OUT .... so, I recommend testing a brand of tee out before you buy a bunch of them ..... but sometimes, I think they might start with a grey shirt instead of white when dyeing black..... I discharged a purple tee and it went to a bright orange.... then it dried and the bright orange is now a burnt orange color ..... so this is a test it and see kind of art 😉✌🏻

      IF, I were to do an ice dye, I would do the same rinsing and then I would probably just go for it while damp, unless I have a mandala or something else with lots of layers, then I would let it dry out... but I think sprinkling soda ash on or mixing the soda ash powder with dye powder and add it all at once

    Do you presoak you shirts in a particular solution before you color them

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 года назад +1

      Yes .... Soda ash is what activate the Fiber Reactive Procion Dyes, another name for it is Sodium Carbonate. You can find it at one of the dye houses, or you can purchase locally from a pool supply store, or in the laundry isle under the name Washing Soda, just be sure to check the label says 100% Soda Ash.
      Here is how I mix or make soda ash: ruclips.net/video/vD1MSB0sAY8/видео.html

    What is the reason for the vegetable steamer?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 года назад +2

      it sped up the dye setting process so I was able to dye and wash on the same day... I wanted to get the video up on Monday and only started the process on Saturday :-) .... but normally I would leave them to batch for 48 hours as tat is my preferred method and I like the colors better ... but steaming works great for rush orders
