I had planned to show two tees, but then it turned into a really long video... so I have another video coming soon where I tried a couple variations of just one tee.

    Hello, I just want to say thanks so much for this video. I tried it w/a black shirt and a navy shirt and they both look good. I like how it is a pretty simple design - for people who like that versus something more complex. It also does not use a lot of dye. The White Bright works better than bleach. I also put the shirt on a grill but just held the grill so I could direct the flow of water.

      Thank you and you are welcome.... as for the tee I am wearing, the design is a RonStar : ruclips.net/video/uxnyTyaMssM/видео.html
      BUT.... instead of starting with a white tee, I used an old tie-dyed tee... I soaked it in soda ash first, (I used a separate basin as some dye does leach out, so I pour in just enough for the one tee) .... after tying the tee up with sinew, I dyed it all black... the sinew blocks the dye from reaching part of the tee, but instead of having white lines, I have colored lines ... I call it an Over Dye : ruclips.net/video/CPI_23w6JkY/видео.html
      and just in case you need help with the sinew, here is a video to show how I use it and kite string : ruclips.net/video/nRKtNBZB5Qo/видео.html
      and here is a video where I explain a bit of how I use the sinew and the sinew dowel : ruclips.net/video/NsHsoLFh7-0/видео.html ~. in this video I tie the Ronstar on a white tee ✌🏻

    Would there be any difference in the folds if you were to use a black long sleeve ? Thank you

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  Год назад +1

      this would be a tricky one since it is folded diagonally... the sleeves are not lined up... BUT, if you want some of the design on the sleeves, then the way I would do it is fold the tee in half and then line the sleeves up the best I can with the rest of the tee so when I fold it, the sleeves are incorporated with the rest of the fold, then they will be in on the discharging as well as dyeing
      BUT, if you want to keep the sleeves black, then you will need to fold the tee in half and then make sure to move the sleeves so when you fold, they sleeves are left out ... then once I fold and tie the tee... then I would gather the sleeves the best you can and tie them back so they are out of the way, or if possible, I would bag them or wrap with plastic so they stay black
      well, now that I read what I wrote, it sounds confusing, so I will make a little video to show what I mean with these folds and will post a link on this video... it may be a day or two before I get it done and edited so please check back ... or ask me about it on FB or IG ✌🏻

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 года назад

      I have not use Rit dyes before, but as far as I know, the soda ash will not help them.... with the Procion Dyes that I use, the soda ash sets up a chemical reaction between the dye and the cotton fibers causing them to bond ... I am not sure of the process for Rit, but it is different

    Hello I know this video was made a while back but I'm new at this and I hope you see this. I just but the OWB. I have been using bleach to do scrunch method on black tees. I normally just spray the bleach after I have scrunched it and let it sit till it's light. But lots of times I get holes or ugly splotches. My question is how can I achieve a scrunch method on a black shirt using the OWB? Does it have to be hot? If I pour it all over won't the color come out most of the shirt? Also what do you precast shirts with? Sorry I'm so lost. Lol but I ruin alot of shirts with bleach. Help

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 года назад

      Yeah I have used bleach and know about getting holes... no fun there. I love the OUT and the Rit Color Remover the most as they remove more color and do not need to be neutralized like the bleach does.
      But yes I know what you mean about the OUT... I will be doing more videos using the OUT and working on designs like the scrunch, so stay tuned for that....
      but the way I have had some success with it is by pouring a little water at a time instead of filling the tub up and letting it soak ...... and tying the tees tighter to 'block' out some of the OUT
      And I am not sure what you mean by 'precast' but I just do a prewash on the black tees, and then after they spin out, I fold them while they are barely damp and then do the OUT while still damp. here is my Black tees playlist where I show all of the discharging methods I have tried :
      ruclips.net/p/PLMEtBqB2BzuquDrHsqxbv8LdFkaIyy3wo

    I'm having an issue where my spouts are getting clogged up while I'm dying. It's mostly reds but happens with other colors too sometimes. I have to keep rinsing it. What can I do??

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 года назад +3

      I mix my dyes with Luke warm water to help dissolve the dye better .... after mixing my dyes, I pour them through a fine mesh filter like this one : amzn.to/2QKekAO (if you use this link then I get credit) ....... if there is A LOT of gunk when I do this, I will tap it back into the cup add more water and blend it up as I want all of my dye powder to dissolve or the color will not be right ... but sometimes there are little bits left and the filter will get them out
      And sometimes, the bits that clog the nozzle is not from the dye mixing but from the gunk that builds up inside the dye bottles over time and then it breaks loose and clogs... so now and then I will clean my bottles, here is how I do it : ruclips.net/video/mVGFa99g5Mw/видео.html

    So I bought a black gildan sweatshirt which I assumed it was 100% cotton. It may actually be a cotton and polyester blend. I don’t see any color being taken out. Is this because it is blended with polyester?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  Год назад

      I have had a couple tees that were off brands that OWB did not remove color from... and yeah I think having poly in them does not help ... one thing you could try is Bleach ... I had one tee that bleached out great and when I found anohter one recently, I tried OWB and no color came out at all....
      SO ... Bleach and OWB work differently... so if one does not work, I wash it and then I try the other... just make sure to neutralize if you go with bleach ... I showed how I neutralize bleach in all 3 of my bleach videos ✌🏻
      other than that, I try out a tee before I buy a lot of them to make sure this process will work.... BUT, you Never know until you try and even if they look the same, it really depends on how they were dyed as to how they will discharge or not ✌🏻

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  11 месяцев назад

      Thank you and I just make sure I have the tee tied tightly and then I lay it flat against the drum of the washer and normally have at least one other tee to balance the load as it spins
      as for Bleach ... you may get some similar results, but I prefer the OWB as it goes to an almost light tan color, but when I use bleach, it is more of an orangy color... and you will need to rinse and then neutralize the bleach after you are done ...
      you did not say where you were from,
      but I saw a note from a dyer in the UK, here are the alternatives to OWB :
      HG Whiter than White
      Dr Beckman Colour Run Remover
      and here is another post I saw a post about someone who used 'Heitmann Decolorant' from Germany .... great color removal from what I could see
      I hope you have fun and success with your project ✌🏻

    I'm pretty new to tie dye and had been wanting to try a reverse dye with owb so tried after watching this video... I used a 100% cotton black tee, did my best pleating to date & tied it up crazy tight. I poured the owb powder on and slowly poured boiling water over, saw no change. Put more on, reheated water, tried again. Swished it around, added more, put boiling water in spray bottle & tried that, thinking the water was just washing it away too fast... Left it sit overnight for about 8 hrs... It literally took no color out. I rinsed it, found it had no change, untied it even to rinse better, (which was upsetting because I'd wanted to keep it pleated to dye), but nothing. Any tips? I was excited to try this and have seen so many people have success, not sure what i could've done wrong! Thanks for any advice! Love your videos, btw, very thorough; i just found your channel last night. 🫀

      That happens every now and then... some Brands of tees do not work with OWB ... But, sometimes when OWB does not work on a tee, then Bleach will work .... so for this tee, maybe try bleach ... but otherwise, if you want to work with OWB, I would try a different brand of cotton tee ...
      I use Port & Company mostly, but I have also used Gildan with good results .... but in the past, I had a random tee I found some place and had the same type experience ...
      OWB did not remove any color, but Bleach did (just remember if you use Bleach, you must also Neutralize the Bleach once you get the desired color) ... I show how I neutralize in each of my 3 Bleach videos ... just in case you did not see it, I have a whole playlist for Discharging where I demo OWB, Rit Color Remover, Bleach and Decolourant : ruclips.net/p/PLMEtBqB2BzuqUum7wx4njWkcy_HI10P-o

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 года назад

      I mostly use Gildan or Port & Company .. but the main thing is to get 100% cotton ... the brand is not as important as the cotton content... so find the style, cut, softness or whatever is important, but 100% cotton, or close to it and you are good
      also, when doing reverse dyeing, or discharging, some brands work better than others, but until you try one, you will not know how well it works... this is because it depends on how the black or whatever color tee you have was originally dyed as to how it will discharge ... so the first two brands I mentioned work well

    how did you spin it out

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  11 месяцев назад +2

      I set it in the washer, kinda standing up and leaning against the washer basin, I usually will do a few tees to balance it out, then I set my machine to the spin cycle ... then I usually rinse again and then spin out one more time ...
      then you can soak in soda ash and spin out again... BUT, one thing to be aware of with spinning out soda ash ... you need to check to see if your spin cycle sprays water during the spin cycle, some do and some do not ... if yours does, then you may be able to set the dial to half way through the cycle and normally it will not spray water at this point ...
      the reason for this is it can dilute your soda ash ... so it is not a problem when you are just rinsing something as the water helps with this, but not with soda ash ✌🏻
      One other option is to add the soda ash after you have dyed the tee, I have been doing this more now, here is a video I made to show soaking before tying, after tying, or after dyeing : ruclips.net/video/rkmAQxOu52A/видео.html
      BUT, if you are doing an Ice Dye, then you can just add the soda ash powder over top of your dyes or ice

    Has anyone tried to purchase a Clorox bleach pen for crafting? I couldn't find it in the store so I went to Amazon - couldn't believe it- $70 for a freaking 2oz bleach pen🤯 Hard pass, I just made my own.

    Why Out product over using bleach?

      there are a few reasons, but mostly, I get more color removal with the Out White Brite or Rit Color Remover than I do from Bleach. (Bleach goes to an orange color where as the other two go to a beige or almost white... so it is easy to re dye)
      Also, the bleach can damage the tee if left on for too long, like if you are waiting for it to lighten up more.... or if you do not dilute it enough... and then when done you need to neutralize it
      the OUT and Rit can both just be rinsed/washed and then you can dye it ... here is my Black Tees playlist where I demo Bleach, OUT, Rit, and Jacquard DeColorant : ruclips.net/p/PLMEtBqB2BzuobKZarvDxELVgQCO25elQr
      Personally, I prefer the Out or Rit for discharging ... but I encourage people to find what they like best or what works best for them

      sorry about that, spell check got me LOL .... I was saying that "if you are going to post here on RUclips, then please ask a new question ....." so what part of the tee did not work out?? doing the OWB to remove color or the dyeing of the tee??
