Well done, sir.
Thank you!
This is solid info bro. I have struggled with midrange and low-end kick and bass relation. Salute!
Thank you! Hope this helps!
Great info! I’m wondering if these tips are applicable to a Dolby ATMOS (spatial in Apple speak) mix or specific for a stereo mix?
That’s an excellent question! I’ve only worked in atoms a little bit. I would assume folding down to mono could be beneficial, as in taking all the sound and playing it just out of the front center or LR in mono. EQ trick could be helpful too, you’d just need to drop that same eq on every output. Using a Dolby ATMOS reference in probably the most important. Again, not really my area of expertise but I do want to learn more about ATMOS.
Over the last few years, I’ve spent a few bucks on ATMOS mixes. Most recently at a specially designed studio in FL. I was willing to spend the money to experiment. I’m glad I did ... But I must admit to being underwhelmed with the results. Still, it’s an exciting space because the rules are still being written. As one engineer told me “its the Wild West when it comes to ATMOS”
