Good to see you back Dave and I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling with relapses. Don't be too hard on yourself. Be patient and persistent. Recovering from addiction is a lifelong process with ups and downs. It’s important to note that alcoholism is a real disease. It can cause changes to the brain and neuro-chemistry, so a person with an alcohol addiction may not be able to control their actions. Stay strong, don't give up and Take Care!👋❤💪
Congrats on 12 days! Glad you're in the world and keep on keepin' on! I had a horrible bout of bronchitis mid June and took off brand cough syrup at the recommended dosage not even realizing it was DXM (which I used to get high on in my teens). Everything was fine til I took it the next day on an empty stomach and immediately recognized the feeling. I'm just getting over the mental insanity of "well I still have a cough so technically it's not a relapse for me to continue taking it- and I can take the recommended dose but stop eating so I still feel the high without it being considered a relapse" lol not ideal, but thankfully my thoughts didn't become actions. I really hope in all of this, you can find a way to reconnect with existing and new supports, and truly know in your heart (and neurotic brain) that you are both capable and worthy of recovery.
Good to hear more stories about DXM (not wishing you struggled with it of course) because it has been such a different and uncommon addiction. Thanks for the support my friend!
My son died last September. He was 45 years old. He literally drank himself to Death...He reached a point where he had Alcoholic Wet Brain and Diabetes related to Chronic Pancreatitis...I know you can Do this...I am too... It's Never Better...Super Happy you are Back😊🍀
For me once I start the thought I'm scared to reach out because I don't want somebody to try to stop me. There in lies the problem with trying to reach out.
Been there recently. I relate with the thoughts and inner battle. This is why I relapsed. Thinking it would be okay. I got liver disease and was feeling better. Staring at the beer aisle, tearing up then grabbing a 12 pack. It was awful. I got very sick after. The biggest step is trying again. Wishing you the best. You can do this. 12 days is amazing. I'm 2 weeks sober. Keep posting, you got support here.
Nice to hear you're back. Any more time in rehab isn't necessarily going to do you any good. Met so many addicts who "did their time" like it's jail, over and over. But it's all up to you! You've got to look into psychedelics though, my dude. No matter what life throws at me, I never consider drinking. I moved back into my parents' place after the pandemic, pushing 40, broke, all my triggers were there, like my emotionally abusive father who would even doubt my sincerity in sobriety, and I still NEVER felt the urge to drink. AA and rehab keep people stuck in recovery mode. You are voluntarily entering a revolving door. And if you have used shrooms, well, I must note that 1) drinking while taking them won't help, and 2) recovery requires multiple trips in conjunction with a recovery program (which can even be AA or whatever). All I'm saying is that if you're still fighting urges to drink, it doesn't look good.
@@steelearmstrong9616 a growing body of scientific research suggests otherwise. there is a cohort that should avoid psychedelics. however, given David's age (sorry buddy!) it is extremely unlikely he has a schizo-affective disorder he wouldn't know about, which could be triggered by use. "drugs are not the solution" m'kay
On the part about AA and revolving door. I've been in detox (hospital) 8 times in the last year.....does no good other than stop me from drinking at that moment. Which I guess serves its purpose, but, as far as long term, it has to come from within. I'm trying.
David, glad you're back. Chances are, you already know what you need to do to stay sober. I did a 12 step program, and I stay very close to it. I learned that meeting makers make it, and I believe that. Good luck on this next part of your journey. Stay sober, don't drink, and go to meetings.
Welcome back. It would be helpful to know the timeline leading up to that video. Did you drink for a few days and that was recorded a few hours after your last drink?
@@davidnochaser Sorry I'd commented mid way through this video ... I now know it was DXM rather than alcohol. Whether you were still under the influence, or coming down, it's great that you realised you needed to stop.
The answer can be in the positive. One drink seems to take you down, then flood your body with the drink that can give you life. Drink home filtered water in excess, especially when you have cravings.
