Tournament golf is just hard. As one of those "juniors" that started playing events at 10 years old, after stopping at 17 (top 50 finish Canadian Junior) I'm now trying to play regional Am events after 50. It's just a hard thing to wrap your head around. Just keep focused on making good decisions during tournament rounds (taking extra clubs, using good course management). I'm assuming that a tournament round will add about 5-7% onto one's score. Good that you are looking at your bag. Focus on getting your longer hybrids more consistent and then more comfortable hitting clubs from off the tee that will get you into "play" -- I'm 52 now but I'm really giving myself 3 years to try and get back into shape when i turn 55. Keep signing up and looking at your stats like you are doing and just focus on getting those percentages better, try not to think about the "score" as a barometer of improvements. Good luck!! And keep having fun! (and can't underestimate keeping an eye on lie angle -- it's the one major spec that can wreak havoc. When you buy clubs, also look at what the manufacturer's specs are -- the lie angle is super different between brands)
Thanks for the great insight! And I’ll be back competing soon for sure, thanks for the encouragement and it’s awesome to hear other people’s stories. Good luck with everything! 👍
