As a lifelong resident of L.A., allow me to make a couple of suggestions. If you're staying in, or simply visiting, DTLA, Hollywood or West Hollywood, it's best not to wander around on your own, especially at night. Crime is a serious problem here and thieves go for the low-hanging fruit -- people walking alone. Travel in groups whenever possible and keep your eyes open. Don't flash valuables or wads of cash, and don't keep your phone in your back pocket. I agree with your comments about Hollywood, Chris. Not the best place to stay but, for those that want to stay there, I would recommend The Aster on Vine Street, just north of Hollywood Blvd. Very nice, excellent service and their rooftop restaurant (Lemon Grove,) bar and garden is a beautiful place to relax and have an outstanding meal or just enjoy the view from above. It's my safe haven in an otherwise not-so-nice Hollywood. The Aster is also not as big or as congested with traffic as is Loews. Also, I would advise travelers to rely on Uber and Lyft rather than public transit. Too many shootings, stabbings and other attacks on the LA Metro system in the recent past. Great job, as always, Chris!
With all that, why would one bother. From what I've seen, everything closed, homeless encampments and now the above clarification of what and what not to do, think my travel dollars would be better spent elsewhere.
We stayed in Dana Point in June and we loved it there. We had easy access to the beautiful beaches and amenities of Laguna to the north and San Clemente. It was also an easy drive up the 5 to Disneyland and an easy day trip to Oceanside and San Diego from there.
As a cheap traveler, my favorite place to stay is the Best Western in Eagle Rock. It cost about $150 or less per night. The best park is there's direct public transportation to Hollywood, Fairfax district, downtown, and the L.A. Live.
We usually stay in Old Town Pasadena. Lovely area, lots of great places to eat and very walkable. Also plenty of metro stations so easy transport into Downtown LA and beyond.
Only just discovered your channel - love the reviews. Thank you. We're visiting LA (from UK) for the first time in January - cruise from San Pedro. Staying for a couple of nights in Santa Monica (should've maybe watched this before booking! 😁). Still excited though
Santa Monica is full of homeless drug addicts! You will shockingly suprised if you can drive up to Malibu Ca or leguna beach Ca much better ocean cities
This is a fantastic resource! I’ve stayed at some of these hotels. Lido House in Orange County is my favorite. The burger at Mayor’s Table won Best Burger in Orange County one year. Their rooftop bar has fantastic views and great food. The margarita is a favorite as it comes with a popsicle!
This was such a timely stream! I just stayed at the Conrad Los Angeles for a couple of nights last weekend. I can vouch that it is a good hotel, pricey but worth it. My favorite part was breakfast at their restaurant San Laurel!!!
Sad i missed this livestream! Travelling to la start of November booked in to stay at Loews was glad it got a mention though you did recommend not to stay in Hollywood 😂
I stayed at the Sheraton Grand. Very nice. But I had to change my room because of a bar on 7th st. that played live music until 2am. No problem in changing rooms.
West San Fernando Valley resident here. I wouldn't say Burbank Airport is cheaper to fly to or from than LAX, but the opposite. I once had to get permission from my employer to fly from BUR instead of LAX because of this. Anyway, BUR finally has started constructing a new terminal, so something to look forward to. L.A. can be overwhelming for a new visitor. If they're coming as a tourist and don't know someone locally who they can hook up with, I suggest one of the major hotels, maybe from downtown into the west side, (many you mentioned) then do the tours. Driving can be daunting, if they're not used to driving in big cities (and even if they are). It's still daunting for me even though I've lived here almost all my life. On subsequent visits, once you know the ropes, then rent a car to explore the less tourist trap spots.
From la but live in nyc since 84 laguna one hwy sucks my aunt and uncle lived there took forever to visit in the 70s . I'll come visit when Lucas museum opens and space shuttle bldg finishes launch position bldg , also will visit clippers arena . stayed at beverly hills hotel 2 years ago and loved it . in nyc the aman hotel is the new top hotel. i grew up in the valley in 70s and loved it van nuys , cant do it now to hot
We stayed at the Hollywood Roosevelt twice. The first time we ended up in three different rooms, finally in a suite. The second we just changed rooms once. Next year we're returning to California but will probably not stay in LA at all, probably Ventura.
This was very interesting and informational, thank you! Would you consider to do a similar video with the focus on more budget friendly hotels/motels? If I take such a long flight from Europe, I'd rather stay two weeks in a cheaper spot instead of just one week in a more expensive one. I will only sleep there anyway and be out and about during daytime, so... 😉
Thanks Nozee -- Not sure I'd do a "motel" list justice as those aren't the kind of places I stay in. Where many of these other properties are have some form of first hand experience 😀
Bit out, but we had a good stay in Santa Clarita at the Hyatt (Regency ?). Was a few years ago but it was a nice area at night (hope it hasn't changed) and very convenient for 6 flags

LA has a lot of famous sandwiches, for example The Godmother at Bay Cities in Santa Monica. In terms of Jewish style delis, the most popular is Langers, their #19 sandwich gets a lot of media. Langers is in the Westlake neighborhood (between DTLA and K-town) area, not a very nice area, so they are open for limited hours. The next best deli is Brents in Northridge in the middle of the San Fernando Valley, so NOT very tourist accessible.
I know it. It's in the LA Arts District. Definitely not the nicest area. But I assume you're looking at that hotel cause it's cheap. In that case you get what you pay for
@@YellowProductions Thank you. I actually didn't want to go to LA. But the Coast Starlight goes from here to Portland. So I booked a hotel not far from Union Station. It's only 4 nights and I will surely survive 😂
I usually stay in DTLA or around Koreatown. It's close enough to all the touristy spots (Hollywood, Santa Monica etc). One of my favorite hotels in LA is Hotel Normandie
The whole city is full of crime! Just turn on the news! Each week there is a high speed chase and just take a walk outside at any neighborhood in the county you can see homeless people and drug addicts doing drugs!

Thanks Chris, as usual you’ve done all the homework on our next holiday destination.
Awesome MrRamyon!

GREAT as usual! THANKS Chris!

I’ve always taken public transport when travelling to LA!!!

Yeah. More expensive to fly thru BUR cause it's better experience probably for most than LAX

Hi Chris! I'm from Brazil, and will be visiting L.A. for the first time... is West Hollywood a safe place to stay?
Yeah.. West Hollywood is pretty decent

Thanks Curtis Fam!
We just want to visit LACMA, The Grove and Petersen Museum - you didn't seem to cover that area?
That's basically Bevery Hills adjacent..generally a good area. Check out the new Academy museum while you're there too
Bonne vidéo
Actually it’s pretty much legal to live on the streets everywhere in LA. Or if it’s not, laws aren’t actually enforced.
Sadly true
South Bay 👍
Does anyone know The American Hotel in Hewitt St. ( downtown, 18 Minutes from Union Station ) ?

There’s nothing to see in Malibu. Can stop & eat something but that’s about it
Agreed!
How is this video over an hour long?
I usually stay in DTLA or around Koreatown. It's close enough to all the touristy spots (Hollywood, Santa Monica etc). One of my favorite hotels in LA is Hotel Normandie
Thanks for the thumbs up on Hotel Normandie
Please for the love of god do NOT take our subway. So much crime.
Sounds like a challenge to me

Please don’t come to Los Angles it’s a complete dump!!!
I guess you're the expert. Please post all the dumps you've visited in the area, and why you visited.
