Literally the first song I knew of NKOTB was ‘Step’. I actually went “Haha, look at how 80s this is! Cute guys, catchy beat, but still nice!” It was a fun energetic sound. Then I found Dirty Dawg a week ago and was like. “Damn. These guys ain’t playing around.”
I think it's kinda ironic how people thought this was so not NKOTB, but everyone forgets that these came from a hard part of Boston, they were bused to black schools from elementary through high school (except Joey, sorry Joe!). They were originally an R&B group, closer to New Edition, but Maurice Starr guided them towards pop instead. Somehow their image became opposite of where they really came from.
What is ironic and everyone seems to forget is Donnie's family were involved in racist attacks to black people(Marky Mark),they are white boys from Irish ancestry... Except Knights who are canadian but the Knight family are great Trump supporters, except Jon;These r&b posse It was just that. They were lucky enough to find Maurice. The real Nkotb is the men we can see now. With Irish pride in every show, whittie songs etc.
Face The Music album was their most Underated album of all. What a classic and masterpiece. Still listening in 2020. As Joe Mac put it back in the day. Listen without prejudice. Peace. Enjoy.
Face The Music and The Block are their 2 best albums!! Exactly who they really truly were as a group. Mostly produced by them!! They were an R&B group first and pop second.
Love this underrated jam. That takes me back in late-93 and early 1994 when the Blockheads were no more bubble-gum favorites. They were in their 20s at that time and wanted something more urban than pop. The music climate in 1993 were very hardcore, grunge and gangsta and New Jack Swing was finished that same year. I'm not hating that song but I love that kind of vibe they was in. Nice and Smooth made an incredible cameo appearance. I remember watching it on The Box network and MTV and other music channels refused to play it. Shame on them outlets. It was their best. Word to the Block boys. NKOTB 4 Ever!
+Eric Stewart I was afraid this album would be lame but it's really nice. It's a shame it's so underrated because the songs on Face the music are all very mellow tracks that you can just relax to.
This song and the Face the Music album just shows the amazing range these guys have. Simply put NKOTB is the best of all time. Their Total Package Tour kicked ass.
Jordan's look is the most resembling to my father's,during this period. My mum screamed like crazy, when she saw Jordan's new look, she thought it was my father playing Jordan Knight.
Menudo cambio dieron con esta canción los New kids. Atrás quedó aquella imagen de adolescentes risueños románticos. Me gustó. Ya eran unos hombres jóvenes de su tiempo. Arriba NKOTB!!!
Not all New Kids fans can do the bubblegum pop 24/7. This album is New Jack Swing/Jeep music and is GREAT. I still play it; along with songs like Popsicle, lol. They had a Urban following wither other fans liked it or not.
Well, I was born in 82 and they was older than me and I loved them, and Paula Abdul. Then they was grown and we there biggest fans where not. Guess what I got a spanking singing rush rush from Paula Abdul and I got church albums for the next many years for my Christmas 🎄 and birthday presents all middle school and high school.. I wasn't allow to even listen to radio anymore. As probably most kids born 82-88
When this came out I laughed so hard at the video. (Looks like they're playing dress up). Still, I love the song. It's my favorite on that album. Jordan's voice in this song is so great.
Well, New Kids was originally created as a white R&B group in their early days. They were supposed to be the white New Edition, but while R&B radio wasn't that big on them, they performed "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" at the Apollo Theater in New York City, which is the toughest audience you can get, and they were cheering for them.
You have to remember 80% of the people buying those early records was little kids! By the time this came out those little kids wasn't listening to new kids anymore. So the 20% of adult fans of R&B bought this record but it just didn't match the sales of the kiddie albums they had done. It's ok because everyone knows now this is their best record! The bad thing is it's impossible to find a copy of this thing especially on vinyl.
I liked this way back when I first heard it but albums like this from a group like this usually get more respected years later.....they tried hard to grow up and it was a great attempt but the industry and especially the public just would not let it happen.....so when a drastic change takes place, it suffers in album sales....I hope that over time people rediscover this album and give it a chance
A far cry from the late 1980s, mature sounds and the outfits were a mirror image what was popular in Boston in the mid 1990s like Northeastern where I was. Good times ✌️!😊
Tirando If Go Away, o resto é tudo música porcaria. Que decepção em 1994, heim NKOTB ? Por isso que decaíram deste ano em diante.
This was a good song and video. I think the reason why it wasn't a huge hit is because they waited a little too long to put out this kinda sound and look. With groups like Color Me Badd, Shai, Boyz ll Men, and All 4 one having been there and done that, New Jack Swing had already began to fade out a little. Maybe this song could've been as huge as I wanna sex you up or it's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday if they released it sooner. Who knows... that's just my opinion. All the groups I mentioned I respect and have fond memories of listening to their music. Miss the 90's.
This song has been a huge guilty pleasure song of mine for years! Lol I love it. I don't care who says it's corny. "Dirty Dawg, you're a dirty dirty...."
This track never got the credit it deserved nor the playtime. I remember loving it and loving the new direction but MTV wasn’t having it so people slept on the whole thing. Damn shame.
Think about it, they were singing bubblegum pop for little white girls. All of a sudden, they came out with Black music. It was too drastic! I absolutely loved them and still do! The right stuff was the moment lives changed for teenage girls!

also y'all talking about betrayal like how? they changed their style of music for their TRUE fans and themselves. Lol shows what kind of "fans" some of y'all really are🤦🏽
This is a great song and it's an excellent, great album, but maybe fans just wanted to hear "please don't go girl" and they never want to try new music, new concepts, I went to The Total Package Tour 2017 at Barclays Center and was amazing to hear this songs live, at least part of them. Maybe you guys never heard "since you walked into my life" or "keeping my fingers crossed", or full album, you need to hear what a great album was and is actually. Most people want to hear "hanging tough" or " the right stuff" but you need to give a chance to the "Face The Music" album and "Faithful" EP, great six songs (Target exclusive) ask to the radio stations to play it and support their new music if you don't want to lost again for 20 years their music.
they were urban when they first came out they were considered a r & b group they played to nothing but black crowds when they performed they performed on apollo and soul train. in the beginning.
I think this is when I started liking the bad boy image, lol. Jordan looked very good to me as a young teen. They were growing up and so were we. Always liked this song and always will.
Me and my friend are life long New Kids fans. I will never forget when this came out. New kids had been gone a while and then Face the Music came out. We got to see them play this tour in a tiny venue in San Francisco. It was crazy. I wish i could remember more of it, but it was a long time ago.

Just found out this music video got banned in Canada not sure why but this video man showed a different side of NKOTB the boys from Boston all grown up honestly face the music is in my top 10 albums of all time and this song is the reason why it’s damn good
I first heard this song only one time in 1994 when I was 10yrs old, it was always stuck in my head but could never find it, was looking for it all these years and now it's 2022 i just heard it for the second time now. Thought I would never find it, so thankfull I did 🙌🙌
All their albums prior to this had hip hop elements and their choreography did as well. It went over people's heads that they were always a blend of pop, r&b and hip hop and we're from the streets
Honestly, the whole Face The Music album is so underrated. It's a switch from pop to R&B/swing. I hope people will give it another chance.
My mom loved this album! She always saw them as white Nee Edition and said “this was white BBD”
I strongly agree.
I loved it, it felt so natural, they were older and showed where they came from. NKOTB roots.
Love this!
New KIDS IN THE JACK CITY SWING mod. Favorite Album. Teddy Riley nailed it.
Talking about a history lesson! I knew they were from Boston, but didn't know originally they was a R&B group! Thank you for the lesson!
What is ironic and everyone seems to forget is Donnie's family were involved in racist attacks to black people(Marky Mark),they are white boys from Irish ancestry...

Your comment is so Accurate 👍🏼
True. I loved that "progression" and i thought that suited them at that point 👌.
This was their best record until the block
Face The Music album was their most Underated album of all. What a classic and masterpiece. Still listening in 2020. As Joe Mac put it back in the day. Listen without prejudice. Peace. Enjoy.
1994 gem
True story!
It was their Black album
Face The Music and The Block are their 2 best albums!! Exactly who they really truly were as a group. Mostly produced by them!! They were an R&B group first and pop second.
Ok then! Listening to this in 2024 🔥
No matter what content Jordan wrote back then,he'll always be my man in and out of the NKOTB.
Jordan,you can count on me.
This album proved one thing, they were definitely growing up and I love them for it. NKOTB ROCKS!!!!!
Somerimes I think fans are clueless because this song was good, I jammes to it and I've heard them perform it live and they sound good.
+Eric Stewart i like turtles
I was waiting for Snow to bust a rap though...
I miss 93 and 94, I used to watch Ghostwriter after school.
OMG! How did I NOT KNOW all this time that the rap cameo was Nice & Smooth!
Jordan is looking so damn fine in this video!
Still listening to this in 2023! #NKOTB 💙
대한민국에서 뉴키즈 인기는 엄청났는데 당시 여고생팬들이 보기에는 너무 앞서갔네요.. 그렇지만 개인적으로는 좋아하는 뉴키즈 명곡입니다..^^
After 30 years....I still love them and this song particularly 🎉 best group forever 👍
Could've sworn this clip was 94 not 93
Donnie was looking so fine in this video!
Dana McNair They survived
since 1994
I can’t believe so many people slept on this album!!!!
This song and the Face the Music album just shows the amazing range these guys have. Simply put NKOTB is the best of all time. Their Total Package Tour kicked ass.
I saw them in 1989 at my Grad Night in Disneyland. Epic
the beginning of this video, when the lady is running, all i can think of is the snl skit when she's running from the WOOMBA! 🤣😂🤣
This was easily their best album. The reviews even said the same.
NKOTB had great taste having one of the best Hip Hop acts of Nice & Smooth on the track. ✌️
Jordan good lord. Ever oh so gorgeous!
sing it Jordan, let em know what a heartbreak is.
Amen I 💘 Jordan Knight
😂
kkkkkkkk
Jordan's look is the most resembling to my father's,during this period.
My mum screamed like crazy, when she saw Jordan's new look, she thought it was my father playing Jordan Knight.
I am the dog handler in this video. Brings me back to my younger years lol. It was fun....... Jerry
No lie. I was literally wondering how the dog handler did all of this. Were the dogs really that close to her on the stairs?
We taped most all without the girl. If I remember correctly,we had a couple shots with the woman. My friend owned 6 vry well trained dogs.

They got famous with Hanging Tough, that was hard urban stuff. I don’t get why they slept on them when when they came back to urban music 🙄

Still love this album. It's actually my favorite. Takes me back to 1994 when I was 19 and starting my new young adult life out in the world.
Not sure why this record didn't sell it was their best and honestly holds up against any of the R&B records of the time.

Face the music is, for me, the best álbum of NKOTB. The sound is amazing in all the songs, but in that one specially.
a lot of people hated this song back then but it's a classic today
I have always loved this song even though it never really got a lot of air play. I think it was one of their underrated songs!!!
New Jack Swing in full Effect. Needs to make a comeback for 18’
The rap on this killer track is nice and smooth.
My boys looked freaking good in this vid

Dopeness! Plus they had Greg Nice & Smooth B rappin on it!
I like that red dress that lady was wearing and Joey McIntyre he look good in that white suit. This song is from the Face The Music album.
