After I took acid I was thinking constantly while my mind felt really open and one of the things I realized was that love and understanding and peace are one in the same and that if you knew a persons entire story, if you knew every detail of their inner and outer life either with a person or the world communities at large their would never be any way to be angry, jealous or resentful. If you had a complete understanding of any given person or event, only complete love would be left. Therefor these negative emotions are a direct result of a lack of understanding

I love that cookie story but I had heard of it before.. It was a poem called the cookie thief. I don't think Jay Shetty just made it up. I do remember it well because it had made me cry. This story is from the book 'chicken soup for the soul'. It's still a great video but he could of cited the author Valerie Cox
    The Cookie Thief
    by Valerie Cox
A woman was waiting at an airport one night, with several long hours before her flight. She hunted for a book in the airport shops, bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.
She was engrossed in her book but happened to see, that the man sitting beside her, as bold as could be. . .grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between, which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene.
So she munched the cookies and watched the clock, as the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock. She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by, thinking, “If I wasn’t so nice, I would blacken his eye.”
With each cookie she took, he took one too, when only one was left, she wondered what he would do. With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it in half.
He offered her half, as he ate the other, she snatched it from him and thought… oooh, brother. This guy has some nerve and he’s also rude, why he didn’t even show any gratitude!
She had never known when she had been so galled, and sighed with relief when her flight was called. She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate, refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate.
She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat, then she sought her book, which was almost complete. As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise, there was her bag of cookies, in front of her eyes.
If mine are here, she moaned in despair, the others were his, and he tried to share. Too late to apologize, she realized with grief, that she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief.

The Cookie Thief" is a poem written by Valerie Cox and made famous by Dr. Wayne Dyer's reading of it, and featured in Chicken Soup For The Soul. www.chickensoup.com/book-story/35305/the-cookie-thief. Many videos have been made telling the story of the Cookie Thief dating back to 1998 ruclips.net/video/vug4_UnfV90/видео.html. The credit of the story does not belong to Jay Shetty. It is a false attempt by him to own the idea or inspiration for the telling or video production of the exact same story. Why would a person who has stated in interviews that he questions his intentions everyday not give credit to the author and creator of this story rather than attempting to pass it off as his creative search for a way to illustrate our biases and inspired by studies that highlight our biases?
The actual story of the cookie thief perhaps owes its origin to Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy - So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish”, 1984, where he tells the same story based on his own real experience set in a train station and involving a biscuit rather than a cookie. There are also similar stories that have appeared in British newspapers in the 1970s. www.patrickwanis.com/the-cookie-thief-twisted-assumptions-judgments-perception/

It's an interesting thing. How many people seem to think one must "transcend" their humanity in order to become full-fledged humans. It's been said time and again by many great minds including the Buddha that this (renunciation) is not the way. As Ram Dass says, "you're here on Earth as a human, just like you once were in school, why don't you try and take the curriculum?". Live, laugh, love. Those ARE the positive emotions we are all striving for. Renouncing everything that inspires those emotions is entirely unnecessary, they're what we're looking for! The problem is in attachment and craving. You don't NEED all those to be a full-fledged alive human being, but they're wonderful when they do occur! Sure you will naturally grow into a state of equanimity if you continue the spiritual path until old age, but when you're young, energetic, ambitious, nothing wrong with that!

    Hi Jay,
I was disappointed that you didn’t give credit for the motif of the cookie story, because it didn’t just arise from your imagination or inspiration or love of chocolate. That said, I know it can be hard to remember or identify where you got your ideas from so here it is and now you can credit it in future. It’s at least 8-10 years old:

I’m a huge fan of Jay Shetty and was a little confused when I heard he thought about this because of his love for cookies... he didn’t mention Valerie or that maybe he’d heard this concept before anywhere else... it was weird to me... 😳

Danke Russell! One thing that in my opinion makes you stand out as an interviewer is: You are not afraid to ask any highly skeptical question that comes to your mind regardless of how you expect the other person to answer your question. You don't let any bullshit talk slip though. Everytime Jay says something that sounds plausible and is a great story you cut through it with a great question and make Jay answer it very honestly because he doesn't know what else to say than the truth.

Of course all of the wisdoms have been there before, thousand years/centuries ago, written everywhere; he just used the modern media to spread it ... that's why he is the modern monk ... I don't see anything wrong with it ... why don't you spread something good like him?
On the other hand, even if he ever starts to take credits for everything, I believe one day he'll realise that it would be the beginning of his end. I do not think I wish people like him who are sharing positive conscience get pulled down by people who are doing nothing but only try to bring down the others.

'These times are a changin' as someone once said.. From thought to the solidification of matter, does the magic of intention echo into form, as the new age of insight and revelation manifests before our very own eyes, ta da!. What a tonic for those that have waited so long (ME, yawn), for the 'seeds' of hope to emerge through the crucible of toxic personal implosions that corrode the idea of society-fabric that so easily becomes brittle to tear , where identity fails as conceptual. Sincere blessings to you both. Radiant men and fine examples, I might say, of a progressive and oh so very real approach in attitude and execution of simple ideas, sublimely applied, as an effortless expression free from the confines of convention, cognitive claustrophobia or the perceptible vacuum of headspace. Breathe in & Breathe out - the perfect duality of our experience. Only this little process gives us the possibility to judge. So the amount of breaths we take, determine the quality of our judgements and no-judgements. Judgements are always bound to point out a thing or a just a part of reality, but it can never grasp reality as whole, otherwise it would contradict its own nature. That is why breath, can lead you to the experience of no-judgement - simple because you remain in non-duality, as it is. Thank you Russel & Jay. I am so grateful that so many of us help illuminating this age. I as well made it mission to offer tools for self-development and well-being to everyone. Wishing everyone a blessed week :)

I'm glad you added the beginning of this video. I loved listening to it. In that I was a Christian minister for many years, focused on the supernatural, more mysticism than religion...I spent a lot of hours in prayer, in some cases 8 hour days and through midnight, fasting and only drinking water, and just really all about experiencing God. I wrote a book on encountering God but I got to say that I think I got a bit spooky because the people I started to hang out with were sooo into looking for the supernatural, interpreting dreams etc that I know for a fact I read into things that were probably made up in my mind. But I have experienced very tangible encounters with God. With the study of religions I too have read the Karan, studied Hinduism, and even went to a Buddhist temple at one point, grew up Catholic, went charismatic Christian at age 13. I think it's funny Jay mentions dating a Muslim girl. I dated a man from Iran and was going to move to Saudi Arabia. I have studied theology in the Bible college and it is interesting to me that they teach you "we can't prove anything in the Bible" which leads you then down a path of spiritual encounter I think but some just abandon ship to deeper "theology". I have recently been focusing more on Jewish perspective of Christianity but I find most people have their own interpretations so it is hard to really know even what they practiced way back in the Torah. You do have to separate the man created thoughts with truth. I also am what some might call "prophetic" or others call clairvoyant. I know what is going to happen in peoples lives and often if I pray and meditate I know what they have been going through. I also can feel what people are feeling in their hearts as I walk down the street. I used to share this with people on youtube but it freaked my mom out so I stopped. But I do think God shows me what he wants for peoples lives, like the love he has for them. I often wonder why I know these things, I used to just encourage others with "this is what God is telling me about you" and it was always right on...which led to people knowing God sees them and cares.

First time I've listened to Jay Shetty and this interview had my mind posing so many questions/starting with the dichotomy between internal/external consciousness and its intention/Finding the calm and peace within is the difference between understanding process and the direction resolution takes/how long does it take? for however long the pathway is walked!
