You have to do Army Innovation THEN Continental Army to get more troops OR open more recruiting offices for troops and schools for more officers. Improve the schools you have to colleges to go to 18 low ranking officers/ week. Take Ft Stevens it will force them out of Boston. Place groups of 600 minimum troops in each of the woods outside of Boston to lure them out, but be sure they are in mutual support. Make Middleborough the bait. The more Generals you have the more troops you can have. build merchant stalls to improve your money flow in as many cities as possible.
Little tip take the 30 gun frigate as a reward at the start and try to capture 1 or 2 more. With 3 Frigates u can easily capture a strong 5th rate and with a small fleet like that u can start to intercept convoys to Boston
So gave the game a try, had 3000 colonials in Middlebrough. Tried to bait the Brits out of Boston, all 5300 or so stormed out. the Dragoons caught me and forced a fight, that was the end on the Revolution.
You sound about as confused as I do playing this game. No idea still what I'm doing. So many options to build things/buildings but no real indication of do you need to or when. I took Boston by placing various troops near Boston and forced them to come out and fought 2 battles for Boston (essentially splitting up their troops instead of taking on 6000 troops all at once). I can see I'll probably end up starting a full new American campaign at some point as I'm just fumbling around right now figuring out what to do.
I am catching up on these...appreciate the content. Been a long time since I have played Ultimate General and this is a good reintroduction plus getting to understand the new elements.

I wonder if and when the British campaign comes out I wonder if the game lets you hire some of the Native American tribes and also the Hessians and I also wonder if it will let you choose how much reinforcements are coming to you.
The hessians are there so I assume so. Also the Americans can hire some natives if they have good enough relations so I assume the British will be able to as well.

Hey so from what I can tell you went from 7 allowed units to 21 as soon as you pressed play after assigning military infrastructure to Portsmouth.
Units do gain experience like UGCW, the more recruits needed to replenish, the slower the unit ranks up.
Quartermaster I believe increases army limit as well as C.i.C. Tech
General slots don’t open up until you see the +1 general limit.
Units stats get a little jacked when you merge the units. The idea is you merge to prevent the beat up units from shattering.
Furs are used for specialty companies of fusiliers. Guards, etc.
