Toyota CLAIMS that they do not want to make anymore boring cars... I don't know about you, but automatic transmissions are pretty boring! In today’s video, we fix that issue!
This is most likely one of the ONLY manual swapped, 2GR-FE, V6 Camry's in the United States.
It is a 08 V6 SE. It has the interior from the EXTREMELY rare TRD Toyota Aurion.
The details of the swap involve the Gen 6 Camry from 2007-2011, but can be applied to multiple other cars as well.
To sum things up on what cars this generally applies to, any FWD Sedan(Lexus Es350, Avalon, Aurion, Camry) that features a 2GR-FE, can utilize the parts that are shown in this video. The Sienna, Venza, and Highlander would need a custom pedal setup, but the mounts and shifter cables would work. The 2GR-FE equipped RAV4's would need a different set of mounts, and pedal as well.
The transmission used is a E351 Manual transmission.
The axles are the factory U660E axles, and the mounting plate is from a 02-09 Camry, and 02-08 Solara, 2.4 2AZFE Manual transmission.
The pedal from a 02-11 Toyota Camry could be used, they DO vary slightly, but the pedal placement is the same.
The flywheel is from a 1mz-fe equipped Toyota Camry (1998-2001).
The clutch/pressure plate is from a 05-10 Scion TC, and its suppose to handle around 350 Ft. lbs. of torque. (Its not a stock clutch)
Shifter cables can also come from a 02-09 Camry, or a 02-08 Solara.
For the 07-11 Camry, in order to retain cruise control, you need to trick the ecu to believe it is in Park, in doing so, you just provide 12v to the corresponding pin on the ECU plug. You do not want to keep the car in "drive" the whole time. Since this car was made to have a automatic transmission, the ecu faults to a limp mode state, and substantially reduces timing, and retards VVT actuation. The car will still rev to the RPM limiter, but will make substantially less power. To make full power, the ECU needs to see "Neutral", where timing, and VVT actuation isn't retarded.
I am unaware if this issue is present in the remaining cars I mentioned, but it should be noted for your future self, if you would pursue this said swap.
I want to inform you all, that I am personally not responsible for any wrongdoing on your behalf. I'm just providing the information in this video. The part numbers could easily be obtained online, as I have provided the list of doner cars that possess those items.
Thank you for watching!

The American Camry that the people wanted… but never got. Best one out there 🙌🏼
You already know! 🫡🔥
I got one, it's Blue with the SE ground effects package. SE interior interior, power Sunroof, Black Leather seats, and best of all a 5 Speed Manual Transmission. 283,000kms I wanna do a 2GR-FE swap mated to a Manual Transmission, following the MR2 guys build.
A 2GR-FE with a manual transmission is always a wicked combo! Thanks for watching!
Gen 1 scion tc and íntegras only
the camry is japanese because toyota and lexus are manufactor in japan .
I always liked those Camrys but I never got one because the V6 never came with a manual. I ended up getting a 5.5 gen 3.5 6 speed Maxima instead. good to see that a manual swap is doable.
Hey whats up brooo, thanks alot for the help on my car. Your friend from Puerto Rico💪🔥
Yessir 🔥 manual swap the world!! Lol
The urge to do this to my 07 stock manual even though I know nothing is strong
Nice work 👏 i love this unassuming swaps.
Thank you! I appreciate that!
I had an 02 Solara with the 1MZ and 5-speed.. miss that car every day. Engine loved to rev and pull and sounded great doing it, smooth as an inline, and it was more fun to shift than the FR-S I replaced it with.
Parents have an '18 Camry XSE V-6.. I _SO_ wish they made that with a manual because it would 100% be my car too. Even with the auto it's way more fun than it should be (and is a fantastic car besides).
This is so awesome, what you've made here.
The 2GR is an absolute gem, it's the MZ family perfected. (in spirit - I know they're unrelated)
Toyota should have seriously made them manual from the factory, especially with a sportier appearance it would really sell. These cars would be a heck of a lot faster if they had a limited slip, and a manual transmission from the factory. Those solaras with the 1MZ/5speed are really rare. Barely sold even new. Crazy you even had one!
Looks and sounds clean! Great job cuz
Thanks Mickey!!
The owner of this video definitely slays poon
Awesome job bro. I’m surprised you didn’t try the TRD supercharger and see how the car run. I bet it would be a v8 killer
We did! The TRD supercharger is super hard to come by also. Eventually we want the slightly bigger one from the Evora, upgrade the brakes to the Highlander variants, and then go AWD W/a 5speed manual! The TRD Supercharger needs an intercooler, that’s why it only makes a few more HP over stock. Rumor has it Toyota was extremely conservative with the tune also.
@@WiseGuyzGaragean awd swap? That’d be crazy to see done but nonetheless pretty awesome. What transmission did y’all use to swap because to my knowledge no Camry came with a 5 speed manual
@@joemamaisobama5788 the 02-09 used a e351 manual transmission. That’s the one being used for the 2WD swap. this is epic, I have a 2011 Camry se v6 and a 97 mr2, need a 2gr in the mr2 ASAPP
I have both cars! Both have 2GRs, it’s an amazing engine. I did find out that if you manual swap your car, you can use a Frankenstein Motorworks ECU in a 07-11 Camry. Just leave a special note for him, cause he will then need to use a RAV4 ecu instead! If you can swap your mr2 to a 2GR, I HIGHLY recommend it. Thanks for sharing!
@@WiseGuyzGarageso you’re saying his ecu is basically plug and play the the Camry just ask for rav4 ?
@@streetlegalbuilds7644 So if you are going with a manual transmission swap, yes it would work. 4 pins at the big A pin need to be moved around. but other than that it is plug and play yes! Thanks for watching!
For anyone wondering, the exact flywheel for the 2gr is one from a 1mz/3vz. The clutch plate is from a mr2 turbo. The na one will not work!👍🏻
You cannot use the 3VZ TRUCK flywheel as it is too thick! The 1MZ/3VZ-FE (FWD version) shares the same bolt pattern but is thinner than the truck style! 3VZ-FE version is fine
@@WiseGuyzGarage i should have mentioned that too, if im not mistaken the truck flywheel only has 6 holes instead of the 8 needed for the 2gr
@@JamesAnderson-fw5ew the truck is the same bolt pattern but much thicker is the only issue really. Early 3VZ swaps In mr2’s used that exact flywheel

Cool, I have a manual swapped V6 Camry too, it's a 5 speed tho
Same here! This is using a E351

All of the cars have the same transmission, it’s a Toyota E351 5 speed!
I was just wondering if v6 swapping a 4cyl 6 speed 2010 camry is the same process thank you
If I were you I would start with the v6. There is a bunch of chassis integration stuff involved with the v6 swap that overcomplicates the swap immensely. The condenser and ac lines for example are different, as well as the radio and a bunch of wiring too. I hope that helps!
I have a race sponsor decal on my car from Advanced Clutch Technology (they sponsor Rallycross events I race at) and someone fixing a tyre for me I overheard say "There's no clutch, that don't make no sense", and I felt that, so here I am. 😭I got a 2003 4-banger with an AT. However, it's my daily and Idk if I wanna swap it for California traffic.
It’s really not bad to daily with it. Stock pedal makes it super soft to drive and actuate. The only thing is that I know CA traffic is absolutely brutal, so your results may vary 🤣🤣🤣
This is awesome! I have been looking for a way to do this for a 2007 Avalon. My concern was the ECU (Frankenstein rav4) and axles; would they be the same as the automatic?
@@H395man you can get the stock Avalon ecu tuned from Frankenstein motorworks. Is your ecu a 2 plug or 5 plug?

I have the exact same camry, exact same spec, year etc. I have a few different questions and i’m really interested in doing this. is there a more practical way to reach you ??
You can start a business with this
@@Weezable_x We could for sure, but the issue would reside on servicing it, like when the clutch needs to be replaced and whatnot if that makes sense? Not many regular shops will service a custom car. Thanks for watching!

The app is Torque, its freeware on the android radio! just has small ads on the bottom, but I don't mind lol!
I have everything but a clutch pedal…😢 I’ve been trying for week even before this video posted. Are there any other pedals that will work??
Pretty much just the 2002-2011 Camry pedals work. They are stupid hard to come by sadly. I've personally only seen like 6 in over 10 years at LKQ
Great Job on the video
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
I have an '09 es350 I'm looking to do this swap on, is it possible that I could get a parts list for this swap?
Also, what transmission is this?
Thank you, very excited for the swap!
Sure thing! I made a list on the RUclips short with this car doing a Dyno pull. I’m working on a spreadsheet I’ll link in this description! Also have some exciting news about a ECU tune coming soon :)
So what is needed if you already have a manual 4cyl 6gen camry to put the 2gr into it. I wld assume cradle harness and ecu.
Hey Ricky,
You will need a few items to say the least. The AC compressor, lines, radiator, engine bay fuse box (chassis integration issues), radiator hoses, ac amplifier, every engine mount except the torque mount, headers, entire exhaust (4cyl is a lot smaller), instrument cluster(speedo issues), and probably a lot more other items I’m not actually aware of.
2GR fe manual swap specific parts really involve everything you already have besides the 1MZ-FE flywheel. This is all why I highly recommend starting with the V6 first, then manual swap lol.
Hope that all helps, thanks for watching!
what shifter should i buy that connect to the pioneer cables ??
The shifter cables and shifter from a 2002-09 Camry will work. the shifter will be offset with the 02-06 Camry shifter. 07-09 is shifted vertically and slightly forward on an angle if that makes sense? You can buy that still from Toyota directly!
I really want to figure out how to 2GR-FE swap my 13' Scion tC. I have more engine bay space than that generation of Camry, so I think I can get away with it.
Considering I use the exact same motor as the Camry 4cyl of the same generation, I'd imagine swapping that V6 in isn't impossible, but probably really involved and would require a lot of weird parts being swapped around.
In all honesty the engine bay is setup exactly like a rav4 with the 2GR. When I was looking to swap the 98 celica, I looked at the rav4 mounts and the gen2 TC mount use the same aluminum spacer bracket on the engine side. You use the same exact mounts as the 2ar rav4 as well. There is zero reason why it wouldn’t just plop in there with the rav4 engine mount on that side! The exhaust would need to be custom of course but that is the easier part. If you ever get stuck shoot me a email! Thanks for watching!!
what transmission did you use? I cant find it in the video if you said.
@@Natethecarnerdwantstodesigncar it has a E351 Manual Transmission in it. Thanks for watching!
wtf does the gab about the seats have to do with transmission swap???

What transmission did you use, im thinking about doing this swap as a surprise for my dad in the future
The transmission is an E351. Its plug and play. Use the stock V6 Axles. They bolt right in. You just need a 4cyl mount up front, the side mount that supports the transmission. The support plate under the transmission, shift cables, clutch pedal, master cyl, and such. It's really easy to do. The hardest part is removing the auto trans as its extremely HEAVY.
@@WiseGuyzGarage which transmission is the support plate from? And thank you for your help👍🏻
@@JamesAnderson-fw5ew same transmission👍
Can you make a parts list ? I have a 2011 Toyota Camry V6.
I mentioned every part needed during the video!
@@WiseGuyzGarage are you running ecu from Frankenstein motor works ?
@@JMY8965 as of right now no, it’s an ecu that was tuned by R9k. My brother is saving up for a Frankenstein Motorworks ECU. For the 07-11 Camry, we tested using a RAV4 ecu from 2008. It only takes 4 pins to be swap over on the harness to make it work. It worked great! His ecu changed the induction noise due to modifying the VVT angles, and whatnot. His ECU also does defeat the automatic transmission ecu codes which is also a plus! But you can NOT run his ecu on a car that has an automatic transmission.
So the park/ natural switch and auto tcm? Also what clutch/ flywheel?
Yes that is exactly what is going on. So the ECU actually adjusts the VVT Tables ( from my understanding) depending if it is detecting if the torque converter is engaged or not. It will put the engine in a "limp mode" state if it suspects the transmission is faulty, and searches for the code involving that. When the ECU thinks it is in drive, and doesn't detect the TCM, cruise control DOES work, but it will NOT have full power. The switch is there to basically go from neutral, (this retains full power at all times) back into drive JUST for cruise control. Thankfully Frankenstein Motorwork's exists, and if you are serious about the swap, I can 100% confirm the switching from different gears is mitigated/no longer necessary with his ECU. I tried the 08 Rav 4 ECU that is in my 91 MR2 2GR swap in this car, and it worked! He cannot tune the factory Camry ECU because it Requires the Immobilizer to be present, and cannot be cracked. Using the early Rav4 ECU is quite easy, and only needs a few wires moved around in the harness. The immobilizer will resync to your car upon completing the connection on the harness, as the ECU he sells is basically tricked to return back to a virgin state. Hopefully this helps, and thank you for watching!
What transmission ecu and harness was used
@@bhadz100 It has a stock ECU and a E351 Manual transmission!
@ stock ecu from the manual 4 cylinder Camry?
Could this be done to the le version 07 4 cylinder??
It would essentially be the exact same prosses for the 4cyl to manual as it is shown here for the V6. I hope that helps, thanks for watching!
would a 2.4L camry 03 manual 5 speed transmission work ?
Sure would. Every e351 from 02-09 are interchangeable!
idk anything about cars but my car is manual and its a toyota camry ce with stock engine, do you recomend this engine for this car? my engine broke down and i need to find a new one
If you happen to need to replace the 2AZ with a 2GR, you’ll need to replace a lot of other components, like the ac compressor, cooling fans, engine bay harness, fuse box modifications, and the drivers side mount to name a few. If your looking to convert a manual Toyota Camry CE into a v6, your best bet is to find another v6 model with a blown transmission, and swap all of the transmission components over into a v6 chassis. Hope that helps!
Is this build posted on toyota nation or facebook somewhere? I'm partway through my Camry Aurion build and I'm interested in some parts of this build

@@WiseGuyzGarage sorry to be a pain but my mate said I can have his R154 if it bolts on and works the same ? Would that work too ? 😬😬
@@josiahbutingan7321 no worries! An R154 is a RWD transmission unfortunately
@@WiseGuyzGarage ahhh makes sense! Thank you!!
Any idea if the 6speed transmission would work? Either from the TC or Camry?
Yes it will indeed bolt up. No carrier bearing will work for it. We made a custom one when we had the eb62 in this car. You would need custom mounts and brackets for all 3 mounts. I personally don’t prefer them anymore. It’s all too common to have bearing failures. The cv axles for the narrow e swap work for the eb60/62
How can I go about to do this for a 2.4l 2008 camry?
If it’s a manual 2azfe Camry, you would need the entire engine assembly from a 2GR fe. Ac lines, ecu, harness; and modify the engine bay fuse box. You also need to swap the radiator, and fan controller to work with the v6. Ac amplifier is the same, but you need to make sure the amplifier is from the same style Camry. (LE, XLE, etc.) the 2azfe manual transmission cv axles will work, but they are weaker. That’s a few things, and I’m sure there’s more I’m not aware of. That’s why I recommend getting a v6 car to start with, as all of the chassis integration is already set up properly. Hopefully that helps!
So probably best way to start is to find a manual car first? I wonder if a 2gr would bolt up to an 02-06 Camry as well
So a 2GR will bolt up to a 02-06 Camry 5 speed as well because the transmission is the exact same 02-09. Mounts and all are the same as well. It’s easier to start with a 2GR car to avoid all of the extra wiring, AC, etc.
@WiseGuyzGarage finding all the manual stuff sounds like a task. Probably better off buying 2 camrys, one that's has the 2gr and the other 07-09 manual hahaha.
