This is the flywheel used in the video. www.vividracing.com/my-deal/daYMTsCG Finally worked a deal with the manufacturer and I'm working with VividRacing so they are offering 5% off (with code "daYMTsCG")... not much, but better than nothing :) if you end up ordering one, would appreciate if you used the link. You'll save a little lunch money and some proceeds will help support the channel :) If this flywheel isn’t for your specific car lmk and I’ll send you a new link
i just love seeing car enthusiasts' enjoy their car how it was supposed to be driven and seeing it make them smile how i know it would make me smile when i get to own such a machine one day
Thank you. This is really what it’s all about…. I feel so lucky that this car exists and that it hasn’t hit the pricing stratosphere like the other GT models of its production year. Such good value in this thing. Thanks again for the comment. Trying to share my experience and keep the OG Porsche brand alive
I'm just a random internet stranger but HAD to comment on how fun this was to watch. I'm a new 911 owner and have watched every fucking video on RUclips for the last few years while searching but, Jesus, this has to be one of my favorites. Subbed and followed! What a cool car! Even cooler that you did the swap yourself.
This made my week. Thank you 🙏🏻 really trying to show the real side of these cars and not a passé review. People are missing the real truth
I giggled at least a dozen times at some of those reactions and blurbs - great stuff!
I truly had the best time filming this 😇
It's wild to me that you don't have more subscribers. Awesome, no bullshit videos and really infectious, palpable excitement from you about the mod in this one. I found myself laughing and wooping with you. What a car, thanks for sharing!
I was JUST about to comment on how good a pov would be with this car and then the camera switched 😂, excellent video. No bullshit just quality content with a quality car, thank you!
I have an entire POV run being uploaded. I was going to include more with this video but I didn’t want people to bring their pitchforks on a review video
@DasCayman totally understandable, this is the first video I've seen from your channel and I just saw your other uploads, love the content man
@@tadpatrick8523 appreciate you!
I put an 8lb flywheel in my old S2000 (16lb stock) and it was the single best mod I did.
🙌🏻🙌🏻 love the S2000. I can’t believe everyone hasn’t done this mod.
Great video man! Have a 987 boxster S and would love to give this a try when it's time for a clutch change, your car sounds 10/10
Ok this confirms my desire for a lightweight flywheel in my 987.2S BE. Great driving! These cars are an absolute blast on twisty backroads. Which headers do you have? It freaking rips.
It's great seeing you grow your channel! A Cayman has been my dream car for as long as I can remember so it's cool getting to experience that through you. Great work!
Thank you! I’m kinda here just documenting me and helping others see what these cars are actually like to live with or enjoy
Loving your videos on this platform
Hey thanks a lot, really appreciate that
Some fine driving ! Awesome car !
It's so much fun, and thank you!
I owned a 997.2 GT3 RS and LOVED the SIngle Mass Flyweel and how FAST the engined rev'd and have wondered about do this mod on my G1 Spyder. Thanks for doing this mod - you've got me inspired!
P.s. What LWFW product did you use?
I used an AASCO flywheel from RSS. When you were hammering the 997.2 3RS it was the jam. I was shocked at how fast the revs would drop when upshifting while casually driving around town though. Great car! Thanks for the feedback!
Yes - the RS was CRAZY good and I miss it at times. I felt liked I'd married some crazy girl and nulled the marriage after 12 months. Just way too crazy for the local scene, police etc... The G1 Spyder OTOH is better for local roads here and I think this mod, (with some SOUL headers, engine mounts?) will get me to 90% of the RS. @@DasCayman
Agree this gonna be epic mod.
@@mylifewithporsche I couldn’t agree more. People don’t understand that using a “real” GT or RS product over 8/10ths on the public roads gets INSANE. When driving the 3RS or 4RS the same way I do my spyder - using the car - I was going 140/150 mph everywhere. Wayyy too hot for the local scene. The most fun is from 40-120mph so I try to maximize the enjoyment in that section. Cheers boys!!!
I had a mechanic install a AASCO LWF in my 05 Boxster S 10 years ago. I gave it away to a friend when I bought a 981 Spyder. I loved to heel toe but the 981 has auto rev match and it does it 10 times better than me. The short shifter installed on the 987 comes standard on the Spyder. Both are lovely!
I have the RS flywheel and a beefy clutch on my turbo. Wish I had honestly gone with a dual mass. Can be tricky modulating around town if you aren't on it. Looks perfect in this application though
What was the reason for the beefy clutch? Are you making 1.5x horsepower over stock?
@@DasCayman Yeah 800hp. And its my only car 😂. Can't lie when I'm on a backroad it is amazing. Which is mostly what I use it for just wish I could make it better in traffic

Great vid, great car and you can ger 95% there with a std Boxster S 987.2. Do you have separate video of your chassie upgrades??
Yes I’ll be going over everything
Why do you have it running while getting gas? Love the video btw
I don't like start / stopping a cold engine. I also only put like 1/4 tank in at a time so I'm not there long. And thanks! Had a lot of fun documenting.
😂 I see you are struggling to express yourself without dropping f bombs hahahaha. Did it to my 718 GT4…no need to complain about long gearing because the revs quick now!
I rewatched the video just now and was like... damn I really said "F*ck" a lot lol. But tbh, this was just my raw and honest reaction. I knew if I went to film it after testing it out then I wouldn't have been as vivid. Love this car. Enjoy your GT4!
does the rev match work great still? I've got a 981 GT4 and im thinking of the lightweight flywheel before spending the money on the guard gears.
@@_Suzuka_Joeyup autoblip still perfect. Highly recommend.
@@_Suzuka_Joe there is no rev match on 987’s. It’s all on the driver
I would also get the flywheel first before the gears. Why do you want new guard gears?@@_Suzuka_Joe
Loving the video buddy. You've started some debate back in the UK in our Spyder group about LWF's. Will now probably get this done in the new year as it looks the dogs based on your reaction. Thanks for posting and happy new year.
Oh curious what the debate is about?? And thanks. These are really special cars. Hope you all are enjoying over there. Cheers!
Whether or not the Spyder owners in the group have and would consider retro fitting a LWF to their cars. Not sure the 718 owners will due to warranty considerations. But i think a significant % of 981 and 987 owners might..i for one plan to do this 👌

Truly a mini CGT now! I always love those “mini” versions! Like the GT-R was called the mini Veyron for the way it drives. The current Jimney as it looks just like a mini G-Class, the Autozam AZ-1: mini Huayra for its mid-mounted engine and gull-wing door two seater layout.
Such a nice Car and i get it the Spyder is a special limited car and it is all about the experience. Is there a mechanical difference to a Cayman S 987.2 with a manual and a factory LSD? Would there be a big experience difference. Here in Austria they are also 100k but a 987.2 Manual are only 45 - 50k.
Do you think you can get a 90% Experience Feeling of your Spyder with the discribed Cayman for cheaper? (Except the Cup Suspension Components) Or is it mechanicaly near but feelingwise not there?
Ever take it to the track? Would you need a roll bar if you did?
Went to the track once. Was fun but easy. Didn’t need a roll bar
I never woulda thought this platform could be this fun. Very curious to test it one day :) the excitement definitely was comin on the video! I was watching with big smiles and my gf was like wtf is this guy watching😂
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it as much as I had fun making it. It’s the best road car I’ve ever driven for pure fun
19:13 make sure you watch this downshift set of 4 🔥🔥
The HP gain is proportional to the rate of RPM change. For example: winding out 2-3 is faster than 5-6. So get more from the 2-3.
Re-used the stock disk?
Reused the stock clutch disk
What you do for a living man ? Awesome contect. I have an A45 amg but daaamn this look more fun
I’m a systems engineer. And thank you! Little hobby of mine after work. Appreciate the feedback
My 2006 Boxster S will be getting this mod. Only question now is which clutch to replace the stock one with.
1-2 shift times I want the revs to drop much faster than now.
For how light these cars are and their intended purpose the flywheel is so much heavier than necessary
I totally agree. I'm running stock clutch and it's fine.
Got a 987.2 Cayman S PDK and now I have a 6 speed Cayman R arriving soon with the LWB seats, looks like this flywheel mod is a must.
I’m so jealous of the cayman R. What a great car. Love those
It looks like a lot of fun.
I drive a 987.2 Cayman 2.9L in Japan.
I came across this video when I was looking up the original weight for flywheel replacement.
What manufacturer is the lightweight flywheel you installed?
I watched the video using automatic subtitles, but I may not have been able to see all the information.
I had an AASCO LWF installed on my 987 S, it needs a special friction plate.
The stock one didn’t work.

These look so well balanced or at least you make it look easy to steer. Do the spyders come factory LSD or is it aftermarket/ optioned?
Thanks! They come from the factory with an LSD, since it's a rear mid-engine, the car is predicable and easy to catch oversteer. Holding a sustained drift is something I don't really do though, that's a lot easier with front engine, long wheelbase, and RWD.
"Erotic"... Yes my friend, you have done VERY GOOD 🔥👍👍👍👍
I can’t contain myself! It’s so addicting

Great job on the flywheel 👍. What a smile macine 👍😀 just the reactions, I get myself when driving 987 S fast on narrow roads 💪🤩🤩….but tell me…is that stock exhaust on the Spider? If not what is it? It sound stick, man. I want that too…!!
Couldn't agree more! Thanks for the comment! I'm glad I could share the experience and smiles with others. The exhaust isn't stock but I'll be going over it in an upcoming video. I got so many questions regarding it.
Hey! Wanted to follow up on this! ruclips.net/video/RSX_KsU9y64/видео.html
What is the brand/model of the flywheel? Been considering a light weight flywheel on my 986
@@DasCayman thanks man!
does changing the flywheel effect the realibilty or increase any wear and tear of the engine? Does the increased rev speed damage any of the parts?
Nope. Some argue you should add a harmonically balanced crank pulley, but all the race shops I’ve called said you don’t need to upgrade the crank pulley. This is because Porsche is one of the only manufacturers that balances the engine from the factory and doesn’t rely on pulleys or flywheels to absorb resonant frequencies
@@DasCayman ahhhh makes so much sense. Can you do a video where you walk through all your modifications and what difference they make?
You cannot 'balance' the vibration coming from individual cylinder firing 'from the factory' 😅. That is why there are dual mass flywheels and special crank pulleys. With DMF you might damage gearbox if it gets too much firing vibration from the engine. If the gearbox does not make noise at idle then it might be fine. My experience is from VW diesels.
@@user-rl3ef4ju9k Thanks for the feedback. My research showed that any inherent harmonic vibrations from the engine were absorbed and balanced out with the harmonic crank pulley. Tuned mass damper system.
Can you get shorter gearing on a Cayman? Stock is just too long on daily use near town.
ruclips.net/video/VMmyoTmS8r8/видео.html
What a car. What do you think of the 981 boxter Spyder compared to the 987? Do you prefer the 987 and if so why? Thanks.
The 981 Spyder with carbon bucket seats and PCCB's offers a great one-porsche solution for your collection / fleet. You get all the modern amenities such as the display screens and telemetries and modern interior. It weighs a bit more than the 987 but the 987 is more raw and back to basics and a more pure driving experience. With all that being said, if I could only have one Porsche in my garage I'd do the 981, but if I could have several (like I do) I'd get the 987. Does that help?
@@DasCayman That does help, thanks. On the topic of pure driving experience, what do you think of the lotus exige? Particularly the 410 and 430 models. I think that those cars are really up your alley.

I think that we need to cherish our ICE cars whilst the fuel and taxes on these cars is still affordable.
Here in the UK we are increasingly plagued with speed cameras and average speed cameras everywhere (even sometimes on country backroads) . To be able to truly enjoy the feeling of pushing the car on the public road is becoming a rarer experience.

What other mods do you have? Suspension and headers? Any shortened ratios?
Stock transmission. The 987's received the shortest ratios vs 981 vs 718. Car has a cup suspension on it. Front and rear LCA's, toe links, drop links, Bilstein PSS10's, sway bars with front end grip bias, thrust arms. Cup2's. Catless headers with stock PSE.
@@DasCayman wonderful! Yea I’ve driven the 987 Spyder a decent amount and still felt the gearing was a tad too long, but with your lwfw I bet it’s less noticeable? How’s the cup car suspension on every day roads?
What car have you driven with good gear ratios because this whole 987 / 981 / 718 long gear ratio thing is so overplayed and a non-issue. I've driven all those cars at the limit and not once did I say to myself "damn these gears are too long." I was rowing through 2-3-4 all the time on backroads in each car.@@lukeydukeyz
The suspension is harsh over train tracks and rough roads, but you can dial that out in the dampers if you want. It is stiffer / more harsh than the GT4RS in its current setup
@@DasCaymanso I have a 981 Spyder myself and felt the gearing was too long (longer than the 987 Spyder). The cars I’ve driven the most that I consider to have short gearing that’s fun are the NC and ND Miata. I found myself shifting gears a lot more often in Miatas esp between 2/3/4. The cars I’ve owned that are geared long are mostly Porsches and the Shelby GT350.
EXCELLENT! Actually, the traffic just showed the drivability of the car. Love that damn Spyder.
