      I’m often up shifting to be in a less powerful power band.
      I was looking into an E36 M3 or 964, but you make me consider a base Boxster/Cayman, even an S2000 would be awesome.
      400+ hp cars are great for top speed and highway pulls, but that’s not what I enjoy, I love ripping it in the mountains.

He was a big boy and didn't fit very well so wanted to sell it. The car was originally listed for $9,500, then reduced down to $6,000 before I talked him down to $5,000. It looked like it was in really rough shape but after a quick wash it isn't too bad! A few paint chips here and there but it runs great!

      @@DasCayman My thoughts exactly! I'll likely never sell this car, but if I do I know I won't lose money outside of the cost to repair things that go wrong. Thankfully, I have a second car and a bit of a stubborn streak so when things do go wrong, and they already have, I just throw it up on jack stands and get to work. I've never had a project car before but the best time to learn is when you have a specific goal in mind. Right after I bought it the car needed a new wheel bearing. Took me forever but I did it myself.

    The Boxster is the best value mid engine car with an exotic engine sound. 👌Totally agree with not needing a GT3 for public roads, though the same can be said about the Spyder; a Boxster S is less than half the price of a Spyder with the same engine and no-stress roof, and you can argue that there's still too much speed so base models are not out of the question. A 986 is less than half of a 987 again, and it's a car that's been raced in motorsport for ages. To be fair, purely on engagement and fun on the road at legal speeds, a Miata is still the answer. It all comes down to what makes a car fun for you.

      @@TexasRiverRat31254 I've driven an ND Miata a couple times. They are so engaging due to the swingy chassis and skinny tires in low speeds, it just doesn't work that well at a track. I picked a 987.2 Boxster S over the Miata for the engine, and for track and autocross.

    This is the thinking that I've taken on board for the past several years having higher HP cars. I always go back to what I love and truly enjoy and that is my 1996 Viper with a full system, tune, bushings, fresh mounts etc. The visceral nature of how this car feels in your hands is hands down the best in my book for what I personally want in a sports car. This varies from person to person. A 3000ish pound 2 seat sports car with 400-500 hp is the perfect amount of power/weight for spirited street driving. The engine noise is key but the feel of the chassis in your hands is what I've come to find as paramount.

      Dodge Viper is a beautiful car :)
      In computer racing simulation my favorite cars is Porsche 911 and Dodge Viper, I get the best track times with those to cars and I love how both the Viper and 911 handles in the turns. I do not know how realistic the simulations are but all the simulations have identical or very similar handling for these cars, so I think maybe they are at least a bit realistic ;)
      I plan to buy a used Porsche Cayman 3,4L myself, the Viper is to expensive and uses WAY to much fuel, here fuel is crazy expensive because the corrupt government increased the tax January 1 2022 (and then blamed the Russian invasion that was 2 months later for the price going up)...

      I’d say the one exception is track specific applications. I have a 1.8 Eunos Roadster and on the roads it’s the most fun car I’ve driven. But on the odd occasion I’ve driven on track I’ve felt like I wanted a little more power because the visibility and run off areas allow for full extraction of performance of the car.
      I’m not saying it’s not fun on track it definitely is. But I also think more powerful cars can be equally as fun on track where you can really push the limits without the looming danger of crashing into a tree or another car filled with a family.

      Sounds like you're living the highlife in your 987.2, love to see that. We are torn from the same cloth my friend! My freinds in GT4RS' or GT3RS have a hard time keeping up with me. I plan to buy a 15 to 20 years old Porsche Cayman when I sell half my stocks in a company that has skyrocketed ;) (I have to wait for tax reasons and also the company is going so much up in value still that waiting bring in a lot of more value increase).
      Last week I was driving my moms 1,6L WW golf making ready to pass a slow car and was at 5000rpm accelerating as hard as it could when a Porsche Cayman passed me like I stood still parked at the side of the road lol :) After I followed the Porsche for quite a while admiring it until it passed another slow car (that I could not pass) and I lost sight of it.

    Soul Exhaust? Self Incriminating Footage? Driving like hell? SATISFACTORY! This is the content I appreciate. I wish for your channel to grow. I would also like to see these cars gatekept for as long as possible. Only the truly curious and devoted deserve to own these cars. These should not be for everyone so the prices remain low for those who deserve them. Get one of these engines built by FSI or BBI and (hot take) a GT3 is no longer an aspiration, just an easy way out for those who don't want to deal with these gens and their motors (excluding 9a1's ig). Keep it up! 👍

    • @DasCayman
      @DasCayman  Месяц назад +6

      Ha! I'd love for my channel to grow too. Trying to do it in a "holistic" way without the seeminly banzai POV's but...yeah... I agree with what you said though! There are so many of these RS / GT cars at cars and coffee that get turned on, driven 5 miles, turned off, driven 5 miles back home and then put away for another 7 days. I just don't get it... I also have NO IDEA why people would ever want their engine built up by BBi or DeMan? The power even on these non-RS / GT cars is plenty, especially the modern stuff. Maybe those people live in FL or Texas where all they have are straight roads?
      I'm really appreciating the 9A1 engine too. It's such a cherry. This channel is putting the Dundon intake runners on the Spyder and trying to replicate MotoIQ's rig he did on his 987.2 Cayman S. Would rather the 987.2 Spyder for backroad use over the new Spyder RS (which we are picking up in June!) Thanks for the comment and feedback btw, trying to build rapport with my audience! Appreciate you!

    • @stotle263
      @stotle263 Месяц назад +1

      @@DasCayman Right on, GT Porsches are style cars nowadays. God forbid you drive one aggressively. While you have a point that the power is plenty enough on non GT cars. At least for M9X cars I personally would rebuild to address all the failure points. Any power gained would be a bonus rather than a requirement. For 9a1/2 engines rebuilding them just for straight power is redundant unless you are making a killer track car.
      Enjoy the RS Spyder! Wish those came with mt but Porsche hates the Cayman/Boxster platform. They wait until after the dwb 992 GT3 to release the 4RS/RS Spyder. Gotta make sure the 911 is steps ahead before the rational sports car gets what it deserves.. 🙄

    Your picture should say 'Boxster is the answer... IF you have extra money' OBVIOUSLY every Miata owner would have gotten a nice Boxster Spyder (or any Boxster) instead but there is a HUGE price difference. I got my used 2017 Miata for only $18k because that's all that I could afford and I can easily work on it myself and parts are cheap. We would all love Boxsters but the early ones can have issues (definitely won't be as reliable as a modern Miata) and are a bit dated now and ALL Boxsters are more difficult and expensive to work on yourself so it's much more likely you'll need to take it to Porsche for any work and pay insane prices. Miata is still the answer here. Now, having said that, the Boxster Spyder is incredible and you really don't need any more power than that to enjoy on the street. I would certainly have that over any other $100k-ish car. Like, why would anyone buy an old E-Gear Gallardo over this. The Boxster with its rear haunches behind the seats also just looks fantastic and you got it in the best color too. Black, Red, White just don't look as good as silver on this car.

    • @DasCayman
      @DasCayman  Месяц назад +5

      Thank you for the comment! What I like about my Spyder is that it shares the exact same interior as the 997.2 GT3RS. So it’s all the same. Whereas a Miata wouldn’t be. Then you still are in a Porsche with its great suspension and flat six howl.
      Not knocking the Miata, really love those cars. But for someone who’s already saved $100k towards their $300k purchase I’d ask them to consider hoping off the train and giving a 987.2 Spyder with a few choice mods a try first :)

The purest of the pure and nothing like it although your Spyder with how you have it setup does closely resemble the drive you get. Just add double the torque and tire, take away some of the interior quality (most of it) and to me the road presence of 7 figure Supercars for 50k. It's why I'm on my 8th Viper at age 38. They have ruined me for driving purity it's impossible to go back. Tried 911 Turbo and even Gen 5 Viper but nothing compares to the great ones.

    Awesome video! When the R35 GTR first came out, a friend bought one. I went to go see and drive it one day, pretty cool! I got back in my car a 2007 WRX STi, I realized that GTR is not for me. It felt heavy, numb (I probably wasn’t going fast enough). On the other hand in the STi, I just wanted to do point a to point a drives all the time. It was a blast every time.

    This is a nice ride man.. is the 3.4l V6? If so about the same specs as a nissan 370z.. seems a tad more responsive though haha. Z is heavy

    Man I found your channel a few months ago and I’ve been searching for a boxster since then. These cars seem so nimble and agile while still having plenty power. Your control over the car is super fun to watch as well and makes me really want a rwd car rn. Just wanna say great vids, driving, car, keep it up.

      I’m going to print all these comments out and frame them. Thank you so much for the feedback and watching. It’s worth the hunt, and often the hunt is the most fun part! Don’t settle too much for the spec. For example pdk vs manual. These cars ‘need’ to be manual.

      @@DasCayman it’s seriously addicting watching your videos. I remember the first one I found I had to go through your channel afterwards. Definitely only looking for manual. I’m going to wait for the perfect spec, 2011-2012 preferably. Not planning on dailying it (but maybe). Do you have any experience with dailying it or is this a weekend car?

    • @DasCayman

      @@benhamann9610 Hell yeah! I don't daily mine only because I have like 5 other cars I can drive. I tried to make this a point A to point A car. I have a Lexus LS and a 911 C2S Cab that I take to work for my highway commute. But if you get a non-Spyder then the roof won't be a faff (I don't mind it). Really all these cars are daily-able unless you put a crazy stiff suspension on it and slam it.
      I'll try to keep making more of these. The people love them idk why though! Any insight?

      @@DasCayman haha that’s fair! If I had a quiver of vehicles like that I would have a hard time deciding what to drive lol. Glad to hear about the roof and suspension. I’ve heard these are fairly reliable as well, not sure if that’s been the case for you or not. I love the pov driving and chatting while whipping through the country side. I’m having a hard time wording this because I think the quality is good in your videos already. However, sound especially is something that could really transform them. Binaural audio, etc. Audio stuff has such a high ceiling that you might be able find something not outrageously expensive. That’s really all I can think of off the top of my head.

      It's weird because all of these one-takes that Farrah does in CA are mega speeds... but never any POV of what it's like to drive. Then Tedward and Topher do POV, go over 100mph but it seems like we never get a feeling of what it's actually like to drive.... Appreciate the feedback!

    Imo any boxster is a hidden gem when it comes to usuable power and fun. I love my 986 and have driven the 987 spyder and a 718 S. Super fun cars. The 986 is not fast but, it feels verrrryyy close to the 550 and i got to experience at a pca track day (it was a replica) put still fun.

    I love my slightly modded 600whp C7 Z06. The problem is there is so much traffic anymore that I can get on it MAYBE once a month. You're at straight to jail speeds in 10 seconds.
    I miss my STI where you could get through some gears.

    fun watching you drive the car. I feel the same, I still cant afford the Porsche, but I bought a civic SI that I've been thrashing at the track and street.
    easy and cheap to work on, and who needs to go 150+ mph when your ripping through turns using all the gears.

      You get it! I used to have a little Fiesta ST back in the day... gutted it from the driver seat backwards and tuned it. It was 2500lb and 300HP/TQ. Absolute riot to drive on the backroads... sold it for $10k. Miss that car a lot. I even put WRC spec rally lights on the front so I could drive at 2am when no one else was on the road. Good living.
