The Happy Meal boxes were so much fun! I was born in 1989, and my mom took us through the drive thru all the time. Even the toys were fun too. And this is when the Playplace actually existed and parents didn't really care what was at the bottom of those ballpits or in the plastic tubes, if we were good kids, we would sit down and eat there and then go play in the tubes. Funny how Chuck E Cheese is still a thing in some cities but they got rid of every Mcdonald's Playplace. 🙄

Three registers w/a pair of touch order kiosks. No presence of Ronald McDonald & friends. No self serve soda or coffee. No smoking allowed. No old school "flip" overhead menu boards. Some traditional restaurants exist, but few & far between. They even changed the buns.

My earliest memory going to McDonalds was in 1996/1997 (somewhere around there) and yeah, the atmosphere was a lot more chill back then. Also what made it more fun if you were a kid was that some of them had "Game stations" where you could play Nintendo 64's while waiting for your order lol . Mario Kart 64, Banjo Kazooie, and Super Mario 64. I can't remember if they had Smash Bros 64 but I digress lol
It certainly was a different time back then.

In the 90s McDonald's used actual employees in their commercials. My cousins daughter did 3 because they liked her. In the area around Carbondale Illinois. One had Angela saying ' Were better than the guys down the street ' Angela made about $40,000 with residuals. Her Mom was paid $500 a day because Angela was only 17.

The whole point of fast food was to get something cheaper and quicker than a sit-down restaurant. These days McD's has gotten such a big head it literally costs you MORE money to get LESS food than a lot of sit-down places. McD's had its day but seriously needs to close down. Not sure why people are still bothering with their food considering its quality has deteriorated significantly.

The family is well dressed which could mean that going out to eat was a bit pricey therefore it was valued and seem as an occasion to look nice. This one was definitely the preferred choice in the late 80s with the light blue and brown interior. The one by my Grandparents' maintained this look (and with excellent upkeep) until the 2010s and is now a sad, grey, remodeled location.
