Women's Prize For Non Fiction dates:
Longlist announcement: February 15th
Shortlist announcement: March 27th
Winner announcement: 13th June
note: in this video i say "longlist" but i actually mean the "submission" list
disclaimer: this video is not sponsored.
I think the tone of your videos/posts is just right. They never feel frivolous and give just the right amount of momentary escapism while still acknowledging the state of the world. Keep doing what you’re doing Venetia, looking forward to whatever you post next. 😊
I never leave comments but wanted to say I teared up when you mentioned being a judge for the women’s prize for non-fiction! And your summary of the complicated business of being a human on the internet now was made even better by the humanness of getting distracted by the small(great) beauty of the robin, thank you for the message of looking after ourselves and those around us - it is never meaningless even when so much else seems pointless ❤ thank you for the moments of joy and connection rather than distraction - it’s what I needed after another day of working in mental health!
this is such a kind message, thank you so much - i appreciate you - and thank you for the important work that you do 💕
So glad to see a new RUclips video from you!! Congratulations on being now one of the judges for the non fiction submissions !
thank you so much! i'm excited to share more with you all!
Your videos have such a cosy vibe. Instant comfort. So glad I found your work last year! Have a lovely 2024❤
so happy to have you here! wishing you a happy and healthy 2024 💖
That's such great news Venetia. I literally read every book you recommend and have yet to be disappointed. I am looking forward to hearing about the books up for the prize, once again you highlighted an issue re: women's literature I was so unaware of.
Regarding content, this space you have created is just so wholesome. I have unfollowed so many content creators who are out of touch with the world but you strike a wonderful balance. Your advocacy is inspiring but also seeing pain au chocolates, hearing about some of the lovely events you attend and lovely small business' is really nice. Wishing you a really happy new year and really looking forward to trying out recipes from Max's new book! :)
this is a really lovely message, thank you so much 💕 i hope you enjoy the recipes!
💕@@VenetiaLaManna_
Hi Venetia, thank you for posting this new video. I had thought that you maybe were hesitant about posting beacuse of what is going on in the world right now, but I’m really grateful that you decided otherwise in the end. I find your content really comforting especially now. Big congrats on being a judge for the prize!
thank you for your support and for being here. wishing you a happy and healthy 2024! x
Happy New Year! Honestly made my day seeing this upload- had a rough start to the year and your content is such a good escape!
i'm really sorry to hear that. sending you lots of love 💕
Glad you are back on RUclips, Venetia! A little belated happy new year and congratulations on being one of the judges. So exciting! I'm a huge reader, but I usually read Dutch non-fiction, so I don't have any recommendations. I will however check the books that are nominated. Enjoy reading them all! 😊
thank you so much - happy new year! x
Amazing news congratulations 🎉
Loved this vlog and so excited for you being selected! So important that female authors are recognised, there are so many fantastic writers out there!
thank you so much! and hard agree! ❤
Huge congrats on your new role as a Women's Prize judge! I just wanted to say thank you for all the content you make and the wonderful space you have created within the climate movement with your activism. I've had really bad climate anxiety for a couple of years that has stopped me taking action, but your videos have helped me overcome it by focusing on collective action rather than individual choices.
For years I was feeling guilty about not doing enough, only being vegetarian not vegan, failing to be zero waste and not being able to work full time in the climate movement. I managed to work through it in 2023 and have just qualified as a climate solutions workshop facilitator! I'm so excited to finally find my place in the climate movement and your encouragement, resources and (para-social) friendship has helped me get there.
Please don't ever feel that what you do and say is frivolous or unimportant, because you'll always be able to meet someone where they are. I bet there are so many more people out there that are overcoming difficult experiences with climate anxiety with your help.
Keep inspiring others by being yourself! Big love
this is just the kindest, most heart-warming message. thank you so much. huge congratulations on your new role! proud of you!! ❤
Love your videos :) and super psyched for your role as a judge in the women's non fiction category, think you're gonna be amazing at this and can't wait to hear about all these brilliant talented women x
Congratulations Venetia!! As a big fan of your book chat I can't think of anyone better to judge the Women's Prize for Non-Fiction. And thank you for this lovely vlog - I'm dealing with a family emergency and your video has helped me cope today. 💖
this is so kind, thank you. i'm really sorry to hear that, sending you love and strength! ❤
Over the festive period I didn't spend much time on RUclips but I'm SO happy to now return to a video from you! Big congrats on being a judge for the non-fiction prize, and thank you for all of your recommendations over the year(s), I'm slowly working my way through them :)
On the croissants - I am a bit gutted you had a mediocre VG pâtisserie experience since I was quite looking forward to trying them one day. Has their quality dipped or was this your first time trying those specific pastries? On a more positive note, if you are for whatever reason in Glasgow anytime soon, you should check out the Dorky French - it's an all-vegan pastry shop with (as far as I know) pretty authentic croissants and pains au chocolat. Delish!
thank you for being here!
i don't think their quality has dropped, i think it's me being picky and not choosing the right item...
i would love to come back to Glasgow soon, it's the BEST! thank you for the tip.
wishing you a happy and healthy 2024 ❤
I'm quite picky too, but we deserve top quality vegan treats! Especially since we're usually having to pay more...@@VenetiaLaManna_ Your reviews always seem spot-on 😅
Great video. Would love to know what nail colour you are wearing at the beginning of the video 🤩
Such exciting news! I love non fiction but I often read non fiction by man so I am sooo curious which cool titles you will be reading and selecting with your fellow judges. And thank you for all the resources, drawing attention to the horrid situation in Gaza and also for your kind last words in the end.
thank you for being here!
Congratulations on becoming a judge, a wonderful opportunity 🎉
thank you so much! ❤❤
Can't wait to see some more book recommendations from you. I have loved and adored what I have read so far. Shon Faye was the last author and it was amazing. It really helps me to have good picks when wanting to support BIPOC female authors ❤️
Shon is incredible! thank you for being here ❤
Ending of your video hit so hard. I am also right now just in constant anxiety how world can be so unfair and divided. Seing death everyday... Love your help and input.
very sorry to hear that, really hope you have some people you can come together with to seek comfort x
Missed your videos! Being a women's prize judge is HUGE, congrats!
thank you so much!
congrats on being a judge !! started reading ‘all the houses I’ve ever lived in’ by Kieran Yates - so good !!
thank you so much!
Another comment because I posted before I saw you ask about non-fiction books we enjoyed in 2023 - my favourite was Super Infinite by Katherine Rundell, it’s about the poet John Donne and is absolutely brilliant ✨✨
Happy new year! I got Max's book for Christmas, I'm very excited to make ALL THE RECIPES
ah amazing! hope you enjoy them!
Ahh what a lucky girl I am!! Hope u had a lovely Christmas and that this year brings you wonderful things xx 🫶
thank you so much, i hope the same for you too!💕
Excellente vidéo ! Bonne année 2024 Venetia ! ✨🌞

Hey where did you get the best vegan croissant in Paris ? And London ?
Land & The Monkeys have some good ones, and VG patisserie is worth checking out. for London, Claire will have lots of recs: thelittlelondonvegan.com/?s=croissant
@@VenetiaLaManna_ Thank you for the tips ! I find Land & Monkeys' croissant lacks a little sugar and the characteristic buttery taste although they are quite flaky. I look forward to visiting London and try some of those bakeries !
I'm not a big non-fiction reader but I'd love to see the results of these awards for some recommendations.
even for non non-fiction readers, some of the books i've read have been life changing and i can't wait to be able to speak about them!
I’m crying at Justin Bieber bc WHY 😭
Land and monkeys bakery is so good! And all vegan.
yes, i like them too!
trying to provide genuine constructive criticism: disappointed that you didn't even dare to say the word palestine- if you are going to bring these matters up, you need to at the very minimum say "palestine" and "genocide." in fact, your avoidance of using the words is exactly part of the problem
thank you, i appreciate this. i should have left a note about this in the edit: apparently RUclips is censoring both of these words hence why i said "Pal" and didn't say gen0c1de. i made this decision in the hopes that more people will see the resources i've left in the description box.
Did anybody else think pregnancy after the nine month comment 😅😅
HAPPY NEW YEAR, VENETIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you! and to you Jaden! 💕
