- In this showcase video I will be demonstrating chumtoads, cockroaches, and rats! They are passive creatures with their own distinctive behaviors and sounds! But in general, chumtoads are usually used by the player to distract enemies. Cockroaches and rats on the other hand are mostly background NPCs that usually don't interfere with anything or anyone. They are usually used to add more life to a scene, enjoy!

Sometimes, you gotta use a little distraction on the enemies in order to sneak past them without being detected.
I'm obsessed with watching these videos, and I love how at 4:35 the sliding door automatically opens for the little cockroach its so funny to me

in hlr, chumtoads can be seen as passive entities, they always run away from attacks and their only purpose is distraction
but in sven coop, chumtoads are overpowered as hell

5:11 I don't think the Rats are cut from Half-Life 1, they appear in the Half-Life Training Hazard Course.
They are considered cut as they don't appear in the actual story and they are completely removed in HL:S. They were much more present in the alpha version.

It would be good if the chumtoads had an interaction with the cockroaches, that is, that the Chumtoads hunt the cockroaches and eat them, since being amphibians it would be interesting that their interest is to eat insects, in this case cockroaches, which could be done if the Chumtoads kill them, squashing them of course with the animation but let it be inferred that they have eaten it
True not a bad idea, but they lack any sort of animations like that and in the lore they supposedly very passive creatures
@@VrejGaming Of course, although like any living being, they must have sustenance and feed on something, like the Bullsquids attacking the Headcrabs in the first Half-Life or the Vortigaunts in Half-Life 2
The cockroaches could be an animal similar to another insect that also lives in Xen on which the Chumtoads would also feed (Perhaps very early hatchlings from Antlion)
when you have a group of scientists and then spawn a chumtoad in the middle of it

I think itd be a fun gamemode where you play as a chumtoad or hecu and hecus need to kill opposite team (chumtoads)

That’s really cool. I love how you’ve given the rats and Chumtoads unique ai. Too bad neither of them made it into the final game. The way I imagine them functioning would be like what you did hear, but the Chumtoads would give off a strong stench that would draw the ai’s attention (sadly the sense of smell ai never got finished. Too bad the game didn’t have a few more months to properly flesh that out and fox the various problems with Xen). It would have been awesome if there was a fleshed out stealth system and the ability to throw those things as grenades for a distraction.
I like how the rats are largely indifferent until you mess with them.
Great job. Do you have any plans for the Civil Protection? I saw you guys have augmented the Overwatch’s ai and expanded upon what they could already do in retail. I was wondering if you had any plans for the Metro Cops as well. Maybe you could add a variant that has a swat shield. This would make them almost invisible from the front encouraging players to lob grenades or flank them. Too bad Valve didn’t do anything like that.

Well good luck with whatever your team does next. I’m sure it will be good. Hopefully the mod releases soon. I can tell that people will be able to do a bunch of crazy stuff with the various npcs.
Can we have the Robotic Loader (Yellow Robot from HL1/Opposing Force) next? but one who attacks NPCs :o

idk if its in but i think that coockroaches in the original game they fear of larger npcs and run away even if thy arent treathent
