Nice finds! The permission loss sucks! There is always going to be someone to not be respectful. Really sucks when those people ruin it for the others trying to do it the right way.
I think the idea of using a finger joint bit in a router is outstanding - faster and less complicated than the spline method I've seen. Have you considered making or using one of the chopstick jigs on the market?
Brian, Thanks for the kind words. I actually have used the Bridge City Chopstick Maker several times. But honestly, for the few chopsticks I make, the block plane is far easier.
