That's some good chain! It looked like lamp chain stretched between those 2 heavy machines! It must have been stronger than it looked as it did the job!

good way to get hit by a chain. trust me i learned that one the hard way with my 953c and a big tractor. chain broke came through my back glass. fortunately it missed my head but it did bang up my elbow pretty good
Ah memories. 30 years ago I stuck a 977K so bad I could walk straight off the deck onto the ground. Pops was not happy. I do miss the old traxcavators though. Don't see them around much anymore.
Track loaders are more of a regional thing now I think. In SE Wisconsin they’re sporadic, a company may have 1-2 but they’re more backup machines. Go down into Illinois and I mean just across the border and they’re everywhere. I really don’t care for them, a backhoe is faster and a wheeled loader is more versatile but I’ve seen a guy run a track loader and my argument of them being a thing of the past is heavily negated, damn that guy was good
Hi, Folks. Armchair commentator strikes again. Track loader do NOT normally have tall grousers like a dozer as that would chew up the ground too much with all the constant sharp turning while loading trucks. Instead, they normally have two or sometimes three much shorter grousers per track plate as per this video of a NEW machine. ruclips.net/video/-Cvc-srIaI0/видео.html Just my 0.02. You all have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
@@dplant8961 I’m sure the point he was making, regardless of the purpose of the slick tracks, is only a dumbass would take those slick tracks into something like that.
Hi, @@jlbush8249 . I'm not going to try to read his mind and guess what his point might have been. I was simply stating that most track loaders do not have taller grousers like a dozer, which is literally what his comment referred to. You can sometimes see dozer style grousers on a track loader in the timber industry or some other specialty application but not in normal track loader usage. IF I had HAD to take that machine anywhere near that situation, I would have gone in face first 'cos that would have kept the engine uphill which would have improved traction and I could have used the bucket to help get myself out if needed. It is amazing just what those Cat hydrostatic track loaders can get themselves out of if the engine is facing towards firm ground. BUTTTT, I would have needed a REALLY GOOD reason to go anywhere near it. Also, and to put not too fine a point on it, it would not be anyone's 'smartest ever decision' to take ANY machine into that mess Just my 0.02. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
makes me wonder about creating some clamp on to the sides of the treads that could be installed fairly easily.. get a leaf spring manufacturer to create it out of spring steel so you have a few treads with big paddles to help get you out of Sticky situations like was shown in the video.
Was the guy at the end, making hand signals the one that got stuck? He had that look in his eye. Chris is doing okay these days I reckon. Just unstuck a excavator few weeks back.
those tracks look totally worn out, the should have much better bars. You would not switch tracks though, they are heavy and expensive, those just look like they need to be replace.
Al S we often switch pads here in Ireland. We just change the whole chain for a different set of chains. Wet bog land winter would put 3 or 4ft pads on and for summer normal work we have 28 or 30 inch pads as standards.
Quick tip put the teeth of the excavator bucket in the ground and crowd out using the bucket as a anchor/leverage point. Works really well in slipper conditions.
Chris please buy and use some 3/4" mariner chain. It makes me nervous watching videos like this. I'd hate to hear about you or someone else getting whipped buy a broken chain
Looks like a good grade 70 chain, can't believe you didn't know how to hook it, pulling down on the machine only puts weight on the front of the tracks and makes it spin worse.
Get that out with explosives. No seriously, you put a stick under it and when it goes off full forward travel. It breaks the suction and a little "lift" and in that moment you can move. Years ago a old cat skinner showed me that dammed if it didn't work. 5min safety fuse it's a long wait tho. Good times.....same tool you use to get a bent axle moving out of one takes all the windows out of the shop. Good times.... Welcome to the west coast of BC
My guess it is transport 70. Pretty much indestructible. When I ran my own dozer I never even looked at farmer chain, got some steel loading chain and stretched and broke it, got some transport 70 and never had a problem.

I wonder if there are unditching attachments that would be useful in situations like this. Like the logs used to unstick tanks by lashing them to the tracks?
That log idea would work if the can be attached or two or three wide enough eye beams brought to the site when needed . I think that y’all do a better job of getting stuck than I used to do when I was farming
The tracks are smooth, no teeth , wore out
That is one tough ass chain! But it looks like I'm not alone in that thinking.

Small chains always scare me a little bit
+fastgreenohio I was waiting for a nice pop and to see that chain go flying. Sure didn't look strong enough for all the yanking they were doing.
I thought the exact same thing!
And this is why we can't have nice things lol

Everytime I see a video like this with a chain I'm like, couldn't throw a heavy blanket over the chain to keep people from dying?!
wow perspective it looked like a tiny bobcat style skid steer as you walked up to
Back the excavator up might actually be able to do something your knuckled into closed already
Better idea would be to run a chain from the tracks to the tree, and just walk the machine up the chain..
Well....fast forward to 2021; it's better than having one *sitting there on fire.*

Old trick was to put chains onto track pads and secure to a tree and use tracks to pull yourself out . Hard to get a hook in between pads.
Not a bad thought. How about welding up a device that can be attached to the track for when a chain attachment is needed?
makes me wonder about creating some clamp on to the sides of the treads that could be installed fairly easily.. get a leaf spring manufacturer to create it out of spring steel so you have a few treads with big paddles to help get you out of Sticky situations like was shown in the video.
Sounds good but you know they just dig even deeper into the mud.
Looks like someone got caught playing in the mud.

This channel has turned into lizard lick extreme towing.
Are there tracks you can switch to with deeper teeth so you aren't just sliding around in the mud?
Yeah there is. Triple bar grouser pads with one extra high rib. Single bar grouser pads. Or apex pads or curved apex pads
those tracks look totally worn out, the should have much better bars.
Yes probably $20,000 easily.

I'm a little shocked you brought that 953 anywhere near mud with tracks that look like yours !!!! What's up with that ?
Damn that pond was low, awful lot of silt in there. What was he trying to grade the banks and slid in?
Bravo to all concerned!!!!!
Ernie won the Bet ! ...he crossed the pond ...but he got stuck on the shore line ....poor Ernie
Chris prob made the Chain himself. That would explain a lot ! 👍👍
that's right good chain but Wtf was he thinkin
Wow! Your Volvo is Huge! I never knew it was that big it’s a monster compared to that other one.
Why the fuck did he keep shaking the loader bucket up and down??????
Say chicken nugget over and over again like a choo choo train.. it sounds cool..
That Cat lader was deep stuck, but the Volvo excavator got it out nice Chris
Why did you keep moving the bucket like that?
i think he did it to transfer weight ,,
Looks like a good grade 70 chain, can't believe you didn't know how to hook it, pulling down on the machine only puts weight on the front of the tracks and makes it spin worse.
Is there any place in N.C that isn’t a swamp? OK, other than the mountains.
My god that's some disgusting muck the loader has sunk in.

track loader or submarine?
That's one tough chain or wasn't very stuck
Thought I was on Mr Zygy's channel for a minute.
+Mike Skinner LOL!
Haha I love the camera angle, it makes the loader look tiny, like a Tonka truck. Makes it easier to pull out of the mud that way right.
I once got a D9 stuck... fortunately back before youtube. Took a dragline to get it out. Or at least we used a dragline because it was there.
So did you get the job?
I was expecting that chain to let go anytime, taking out some glass or even worse. balls of titanium.
love your video's !!
Are there any cleats on that loader? Not much in the way of gripping power.
thats not a tonk toy
My grandma had necklaces thicker than that chain but apparently it was strong enough.
The 160?
