I did buy the R version today. I just want to try the focal range out. With the price of $99 Canadian, and your review, seems like quite a good deal. Thanks for the video 🙏
Good stuff! When I bought the EM1.1, I also purchased the 12-40 f2.8. Then I saved up for the 40-150 F2.8 and it is almost always on my EM1X now with the 1.4TC. That makes it a 112-420 f4 "pro" lens, and the quality is much better than the new 100-400 which I purchased a couple of moths ago. I have taken zillions of photographs with that lens. The 150-400 is WAY beyond my retired budget now :)
The Oly Pro lenses are really good and not that expensive for a non-retired person with a decent income in the US or Western Europe. In other regions of the world, where the currency exchange is not advantageous, such as Romania, where I live, a person would need to have quite the upper-bracket income (in Romanian lei) in order to get these lenses. The 150-400 looks to be one of those amazing lenses that makes a lot of people drool. I wonder if I'll get the chance to get it on loan from Olympus, to put it through its paces. We'll see.
Hello Raoul, That's a great video! Like the way you presenting the lenses and visual style) Could you say if there is a difference between 2.8 lens and 4-5.6 in terms of sharpness? Have you had a chance to try 40-150/4pro? I'm looking for a compact telelens, but couldn't find any good comparisons
Stopped down to a small enough aperture, just about every lens is sharp. You just have to find its sharpest aperture through trial and error. What's nice about the f2.8 lens is that it's sharp enough for me at its widest aperture, which isn't available at all on the f4 lens. I haven't tried the f4 pro lens yet, not sure if I'll get a chance to try it any time soon. My photography has taken a back seat lately due to other work.
The point was to show that the pro lens has a wider aperture, will allow more light at all focal lengths and will produce a more pleasing bokeh. It is quite likely that even with both lenses at f5.6 and 150mm, the pro lens will produce a more pleasing bokeh, although there will be slightly less light that comes into the camera, because of the longer lens barrel. The effect will be seen toward the edges of the image, which will be slightly darker in the images taken with the pro lens.
Thanks! Another layer to the test and compare would be the 4/3 lens adapted onto the M4/3 body! I have the original 4/3 lens and an adapter on it's way. I'm curious to see how that combination goes before I go and aquire the M4/3 versions of the 40-150 :)
Hi, I certainly go to buy an EM1 to go with a 40-150 2.8 that i want to buy too but im very worry about he em1x have a .83 magnification viewfinder instead of the em1 Mk3 that is at 0.74. I think a too big magnification isn't so suitablel to see the whole scene (and information that give the viewfinder up, down, left and right) in one glance... Have u got both Em1 x and Em1 Mk3 ? what do u think about that. It's a pity cause i think the Em1x look pretty better that the mk3 for the ergonomic... This problem of magnification is so well supported on the Panasonic g9 u can change the magnification with a button ! Thank for u great video Oliver
I found it to be just fine, but you need to decide that for yourself. Rent an E-M1X with a 40-150mm f2.8 lens and use it for a few days, see what you think.
A very enjoyable review Raoul - Hope theres more to come - Best wishes and happy shooting 🙏

I think this completely addressed my query plus some other good points re using teleconverters and macro effect out of this zoom. Thank you!
Nicely explained, l also have the kit 40- 150 l use it on my panasonic lumix gx80, regards Barrie
I just bought the R rated lens because it feels better in the hands.
I like small and Iight. Plus this isn’t paid work. It’s just for my satisfaction.

Great video. Nice and relaxed. Good info. Liked it a lot. 🤗📷
I would like to see if you set the pro lens to f5.6 150mm and test the difference between the two lens.

Great video. Can you, yourself, see a difference between the 40-150R ED versus the 40-150 ED?
Beyond what I said in the video, no. And only when the photos were examined at 100%.
Thank You! You givit me a kick abortfrågan my own 40-150 mm f4-5,6 lens. For my travel.
Only thing stopping this from being a great video is the fact he has a cold. The sniffing gets a bit boring.
Only thing stopping this from being a great comment is the bitching. The whining gets a bit boring.
