What we’re not told is that Tom lives in a terrace house and has actually knocked through 4 neighbours walls, he excavated the soil and disposed of it down his trouser legs ala The Great Escape. His neighbours 4 doors down think they have mice under the floorboards
Can you imagine Tom Randall moving house? Estate agent "this characterful end terrace house benefits from 3 good sized bedrooms, 1 reception room, recently fitted high spec kitchen and bathroom and location close to amenities, and it..." Tom "I don't care. Do you mind if I just lift up a couple of floorboards and see if I can crawl under the extension for a minute?"
when Tom moved into this house, the cellar was the selling point for him! when I moved into my current place, I was told it didn't have a cellar, but after I moved in, I did knock down a small partition wall and lift some floorboards just to double check, haha!!
@@WideBoyz way back in '92 someone gave me a lift to Stanage?? and as we drove through Sheffield he told me tales of a whole climbing scene based in people's cellars. I thought he was pulling my leg, how little did I know - come to think of it, how little do I still know ;)
we have some updated versions of our cracks coming soon. hopefully some demos within the next 8 weeks. In chats with some american distributers, so hopefully they will be coming your way soon :)
Do you guys collect fly tipped mattresses from the side of the road?! Otherwise I have no idea how you can do many old mattresses in the cellar! Amazing work as always - keep it up!
they just seem to appear, I also have no idea where they keep coming from. there are also sofa cushions and that kind of thing down there. also some off cuts of foam from bouldering walls. it's all just very random bits of squidgy things we've collected over multiple years
i wish crack climbing was more accessable here in the west country.... or maybe it is and i am just not looking hard enough.... awesome video guys as ever
Yeh Cornwall has some nice crack climbing. For indoor walls, we actually sold some of our crack climbing volumes to The Barn Climbing Centre very recently over lockdown. I'm not sure how close that is to where you are, but they have some, so maybe worth a call to see where they are set and what grade they have them set at so you can potentially make a visit and give it a go
Wide Boyz ah I don’t think that is too far from me. My gym were talking about adding some cracks to the line up hopefully it goes ahead and they will be easy enough or I’ll be strong enough to give them a go
What are these black crack gloves with the thumb coverings you've got there? Pretty nice looking! I enjoy Manu's gloves but it's cool to see some new thumb-protecting designs coming out these days
You've got the wellies, just need an eye patch an wax jacket... et voila! Doug, Lord of the Roaches reincarnation. Always remember him nipping out of Rock Hall to show us fresh young Scouts how to smash up the slabs... in wellies! Legendary bloke 👍😆
Taavi Lõoke they are some prototypes. We've tried the BD ones. I thought the fit was excellent, better than anything else on the market, but the friction and rubber on Ocun was better.
MacGyver III the holds are completely parallel, no taper or flare. Our new crack volume (due to drop in about 8 weeks),will also be the same. Totally parallel 👍
Gandatier Ocun are popular, though I picked up some of BD’s new crack gloves a few months ago (haven’t had a chance to test them out yet though) and they feel pretty fantastic. I’d honestly suggest them over most, though different gloves will feel different, you may like something different. I think finding crack gloves that cover your thumb is a good place to start; or if not, throw some tape on your thumbs under the gloves.
I’ve got the Outdoor Research ones and I like them. They have less padding than the Ocun gloves, which may be advantageous or annoying depending on the size of crack.
Gandatier outdoor research melt when they touch rock.... strap is most of the way broken after 30m of crack on the first day! They’re similar thickness to BD Ocun are good, and durable medium thickness Bd are thin and cover thumb, strap loop breaks Singing rock is like ocun but thicker Climbx is really thick, has a terrible strap and cuts circulation to your fingers
we've used Ocun in the past, and found them to be very nice. It's good with proper rubber on the back, and they seem the most durable out of all of them. We've tried the BD ones recently, the fit is much better on these and they have a thumb loop, but the friction of the rubber isn't as good as the Ocun rubber....so it really depends if you are after fit of friction in regards to those two. OR I don't like, the finger loops bag out and they are a bit flimsy. We are making some crack gloves at the moment...although unsure of when they will actually be out
That doesn't look too dangerous... I just recently strapped wood pieces to my garage roof rafters, so I have to dodge the shingle/roofing nails when I grab my holds! :)
you should see the mess tht is down there. lawnmowers, hedge strimmers, old furniture, circualr saws. its carnage. we just have a passage through it all, haha
yeah thumbs getting pumped!? I definitely have never done a crack climb LOL. I cannot even imagine your thumbs getting pumped besides on a pinch. But the way they're describing it I don't even think a pinch and a jam would have the same kind of pump on your thumb at all because they pinch is at the base of your palm which is like your thumb muscle but I doubt that's the muscle that jamming and I guess tea cupping as they say would get pumped
thanks for the message. The thumb pump in crack climbing is a strange one, its not actually in the thumb itself, but its at the base of the thumb in the thumb pulp/muscle (kind of like you mentioned with pinching). I think its similar muscle group but the two pumps feel slightly different. The pinch feels more powerful, whereas the jamming pump is a bit more of a dull ache which occurs over time. We're always training the thumb pump before going on a long crack climbing trip though, its the way!!
so I just saw this video pop up in my feed while I was waiting for gas to fill up in my tank at the gas station and I'm sitting in my car. And I had to start laughing because I was just thinking if anybody walked up and looked inside this car and looked at the screen and saw what I was watching not only would they think I'm a fucking weirdo and an idiot for watching this they would just never understand because unless you climb you don't understand how you could watch two dudes stick their fingers hands and feet into a handmade wooden crack and to someone who doesn't know climbing it just looks like some stupid rafter that they made zig zag throughout their basement. Yeah a bystander would just never understand this and the funniest part is I don't even crack climb and the closest thing to a crack climb I've ever done was a big-time flake climb or the flake lost its depth and I had to kind of jam my fingers and hands in there for just like three moves. That's the only crack climbing I've ever done but yet all watch two dudes monkey around on some shit in the basement while I'm at a gas station LOL so damn funny
haha, even if you climb it's quite unusual to see two guys putting hands and fingers between planks of wooden in a basement. thats the joy of this channel I guess... glad it provided some entertainment at your gas station fill up! that makes us happy :)

Always a joy to see quality craftmanship.
craftsmanship at its finest :)
YUUUUUUSS! Lets goooo! Never tire of new WIDE BOYZ content.
thank you for watching :)
That was the most jank foot hold I've ever seen, very fitting for a crack den
classic randall behaviour
Love the cellar, the best vids seem to happen down there. One of your best vids yet :) music fit really well during Toms climb
thanks! make sure you check out next weeks vid of us actually trying the thing...shambles , haha!

Looking forward to seeing y'all making a go at it. Love the cellar vids!

This is great crack session/revamp build video. Awesome as always, wide boyz !
no problem, thanks for watching :) we're psyched to actually give this new build a proper try, its going to be a tough one...
I love your videos guys it makes me wanna try more trad climbing. Hugs from Ecuador 🇪🇨🇪🇨
