My mother has a '71 Vega Kammback in burnt orange with the woody shelf paper on the side she bought from Selman Chevy in Orange, CA. The thing used as much oil as it did gas but it kept going and even managed a CA to NY and back trip in '79.
My neighbor had one with a big block 396 - he put it around a telephone pole.. this was @78... Took the engine out and installed it in a 72 Chevelle as he was still in a body cast... It was fun watching him work on that Chevy with one arm fixed to the body cast - yep neck brace to his beltline... Asked him if he needed any help - no I don't was the reply, I fuck myself and I will fix it better than before... He hit the pole because he lost control of the car in a turn - he didn't have the rear end set up right... The 9" was not finished being build yet.
A turbo-V-6 would be a great swap for a Vega. The Vega motor weighs about 350 lbs a fully dressed cast-iron V-8 weighs double that. Buick 215 V-8's also make great swaps as they weigh about as much as the original four-cylinder.
My brother built one when I was 10 back in 1985 a blue 72 he built a 327 for it and had a velocity stack he est. Maybe 390hp and 4 speed it'd literally lite the tires on fire lol
Holden could have pulled off the production of the newly designed v8 vega when gm rejected the larger engine and opted for fuel efficiency four banger. The unibody construction was designed to receive the v8
A V-8 Vega would have taken away from sales of the Camaro. GM wouldn't have wanted to diminish one of their flagship brands. The Vega was not designed for the weight or torque of a V-8 but a Wankel Rotary engine that was abandoned due to reliability and fuel economy issues.
Basically the Vega was designed to be a scaled-down inexpensive sport-coupe that gets good gas mileage. Some of the styling is lifted from the Camaro. They even share the same style bucket-seats and side-mirrors.
@@robie1445 Can you deny the egg-crate grill is the same style as the Camaro? Or the small round turn-signals? When the nose changed in 1974, both the Camaro and Vega had the same style aluminum 15 mph impact bumpers with fat rubber strips.
@@MrSFSTUDIOS to say it has a similar look yes , but none of these pieces are interchangeable, only the headlights, maybe, the camaro grille has a stronger angle on it as well, anyhow why does this mean so much to you, sounds like you’re loosing sleep....
Better have lots of it. People think by stuffing big V-8's into Vegas and painting them they magically turn their three-thousand dollar car into a $20,000 car. Value is only relative to what people are willing to pay.

Thank you
"It is what it Isn't"
I suspect this car has surprised more than a few unsuspecting street cars over the years.
"Z/27.5' - Absolutely epic in every conceivable way!
Hahaha yup 👍🏾
The owner of the car sounds like a really asshole
“LS swap everything,”I agree sir.
I've had 4 Vegas with v8s . One fast back, two sedans and a wagon..

I got a ride in a V8 Vega many years ago. It was amazing. My buddy put a twin turbo V6 in his Vega and that was excellent as it wasn't so nose heavy.

Fierce Vega😀
He should have made it a Z-29. That was the RPO for a GT Vega!
Cool I didn’t know that
Never liked college football till I saw bear Bryant never liked a guitar till I saw Hank Jr play never liked a VEGA till I saw this one!
Still amazing car
Yah 😎👍🏾
Do you still have ve that Blue LS Vega GT prostreet??? Interested in buying it..!! THANKS Steve.
Im me anytime..
Great car and EPIC video ... But the owner was actually an asshole though ...
Hahaha
How much investment to build a car like this Vega?
It’s quite a lot with today’s prices
What for headers and motor mount set up you have?
Honestly these was not my car ..
I like the overall design of the car. If only it was possible to get a hydrogen engine that delivered the exact same power.
I'd like to buy this car if selling.
Nice car but should had it running if you going to show it
The owner is pretty grouchy
Is it FOR SALE?
I tried asking asking for it but the guy is not nice about it .. said no
The bumpers are done nice, that's rare.
Yup it was nice

Not quite sure since the engine sits further back and also car is equipped with a custom chassis i think he mentioned something “morrison chassis “
