Interesting fact is that when you were standing at Serdica center, you were at the middle of the "Square of tolerance" how we call it. It is formed by 4 religious temples - an orthodox church, a mosque, sinagogue and catholic church. Don't know where else you can find that mix of religious temples in just 500 metres diameter.

Al. Nevsky was built next to St. Sofia Cathedral which dates from the same period as St.Sophia in Istanbul, and gave the name Sofia to the city in the Middle Ages. It had other names before that. Wow you guys move quickly! I remember we were both in Belgrade at the same time and then you went all around Serbia and are already off to Bulgaria! Meanwhile I've changed like two AirBNBs here in Belgrade in the meantime 🤣
Al. Nevsky Cathedral was the largest Orthodox Cathedral in the world until Serbia built St.Sava specifically to be bigger than the Sofia Cathedral. Otherwise historically the biggest Orthodox Cathderal is St. Sophia in Istanbul, which is now a mosque.
Love the building, your hotel is simple but modern😍Cheers guys from us here in Minnesota, we are now in a freedom mode😀Got vaccinated twice and no more mask😷can’t wait to see your other vlogs🥰stay safe👍
There are plenty of underpasses in Sofia where you are supposed to cross the street! It is too bad you did not use the one next to the Presidential building, as it contains some Roman ruins. Also next to the Presidency is the Archeological Museum, one of my fav buildings in Sofia..It is not huge, so it is manageable even for people not very interested in history...but you will grasp better the history of Bulgaria and the Balkans, if you visit.
I could have sworn that before leaving Belgrade, you mentioned you would be crossing several countries to get to your next destination. Were you planning on going elsewhere beforehand? Since you mention it is Easter time, are you guys like weeks behind in real time? I feel like an investigator now, lol!

Everything is very wonderful, but the only thing that irritates Bulgarians is how foreigners pronounce the name of the capital of Bulgaria. It is correct when the emphasis is on the letter O, SOfia, unlike the female name SophIa, where the emphasis is on the letter I. 😉
Dear foreigners, welcome to Bulgaria, the most beautiful country in Europe ... Welcome to Bulgaria, I hope you have a great time here! I recommend visiting the city of Plovdiv (the oldest city in Europe and European capital for 2019), Rila Monastery, the Seven Rila Lakes (when the weather is good), the Belogradchik rocks, the Thracian valley (why not wine tasting there in Starosel), the city of Veliko Tarnovo (the old capital of Bulgaria), at the Black Sea - the city of Varna and the Varna Necropolis - the oldest gold treasure in the world!, Balchik botanical garden, the Neolithic Thracian sanctuary Beglik Tash... And many more places, of course but these are the basics :) Enjoy your stay here!
hello :) if you are still in Bulgaria, I highly recommend seeing the cave " Bojiite ochi" or God's eyes, it's near my home town and it's breathtaking. Go there late afternoon or early morning, because it could be crowded during the day, weekends.
If memory serves me correctly our Serbian version of "Mekica" is called 'Mekike'?!? It's been a forty years since I left Serbia so someone from Serbia who is more familiar with Bulgarian food please correct me?!
@@dabbleandtravel Yes, that's right. But you've probably missed it in Serbia because in last 20-30 years it's popularity dropped, at least in Belgrade. I know by now you will have been there for a while, and if I was to list the places I’d recommend then you’d be there for six months at least, so wherever you venture, just enjoy the food, the beer and most of all the fantastic Bulgarian people. X
"Daddy of them all"..O come on 😆 Serbia i much better..Bulgaria was under otomans much longer than Serbia and more importantly whole Bulgaria...And almost half of Serbia(lets say 40%) was under Austria..So in northern Serbia there are cities like Novi Sad,Subotica,Sombor,Vrsac,Zemun...Real central European cities...There's nothing like that in Bulgaria
dixieserb “Daddy of them all “was just a figure of speech based on the Vlog I most look forward to watching based on the fact it’s the country I’ve travelled around most , and will have so many places I’ve been and loved, restaurants and bars I’ve visited etc.. Once I’ve been to Serbia (which will be very soon) I may feel differently but it was never meant as a comment to compare the histories of the Balkan countries, because to be honest even if I knew 10% of the history of the Balkans there’s no chance I’d be using a travel blog to play them against each other
