I am so excited to see my dear home Bulgaria through your eyes! I have always adored your positivity and passion for exploration, but this hits on a whole another level. Thank you for visiting and sharing with us!
As a Bulgarian I am so happy to see that you are liking the country and are being treated well!! Next time you come to Bulgaria you need to visit Plovdiv again. So you can see the Old Town, explore the cool small restaurants and markets in “Kapana” and definitely go up the famous hills that surround Plovdiv so you can get an amazing view of the city. :)
Guys, as a Bulgarian myself, I hope you had fun in our country! It may be a bit underrated and even unknown among lots of people but it is definitely worth it at the end! Also regarding the LGBT situation here - we are trying to improve the conditions for the future generations so they can live & love freely🥰
Alright, you’ve convinced me to add Bulgaria to my bucket list of places to visit! Sofia looked amazing and I love seeing the gorgeous churches, cobblestone pathways, and also just how walkable most places are! How fun that you were there for Pride!!! Travel safe friends!
Still relatively unknown as a travel destination, but the pictures you show us are beautiful. The cities look so central European, could also be Germany, Austria or the Czech Republic... except for the orthodox churches.
well, we existed before the communists, and the turks didn't burn us all down before that, that's why something different than socialist blocs remained. And yes, we are Orthodox Christians, also there is an Orthodox community in the Czech Republic... after the WW1 many people wanted to be orthodox and there are many churches and a strong community they help a lot against the nazis but they suffered the most during WW2 when the occupier killed many of them. Unfortunately our oldest churches in Bulgaria were burned to the ground, so more old churches are from the 18th century.
That was so nice to watch, you guys. As a Bulgarian living in the UK I can say thank you for showcasing our little country. I’ve forgotten how beautiful it is and I genuinely hope the LGBTQ situation there improve and it won’t be the American thing anymore ❤️😂😘
always like we are right there with you ! Perhaps I am addicted a bit too much.........I'm starting to notice when Oskar gets a new linen shirt...........you absolutely rock them, btw, Oskar! How cool that you were there for Pride ! Can't wait for the next installment.
Here’s a little explanation of “blagodarya”. The first part of the word “blago” means “good”, the second part “darya” means “to give”. So when you say thank you in Bulgarian, you actually say “(In return for your kindness I) give you good”. Very enjoyable videos guys, cheers :)
Looks great, I used to love watching Dimitar Berbatov play and it's cool to see where he was born and raised. I loved how the ruins were incorporated into the modern aspects of the city, that was so unique!
If you’re struggling with blagodarya just say merci instead. They’re used almost interchangeably it’s just that merci is perceived as a less courteous expression.
Such a Swedish / Scandinavian thing wanting to go out at the weekend and not be seen / bump into people you know…..whereas in Italy and other Mediterranean countries people get dressed up and actively go out for a walk after dinner to be seen and ‘bump into’ people! 😊
I am glad you liked our country. You should have visited the Old town of Plovdiv as well. It's very beautiful. :) And yes, they organize concerts and other events in the area of "The singing fountains".
😊You are a bit ahead of me - I have just 78 countries , but Im solo traveler 😊. Bulgaria is absolutly a gem , and I love it ❤...Read a bit about the history before visit a country guys. Plovdiv is not only the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe but one of the top five in the world - almost 8000 years
You can see the "singing fountains" only after dark. There is music playing and fountains with the rich of the music (and with changing color ) are for show about 1 hour every night. It is a pretty nice show, people can sit and watch.
The city of Plovdiv is really somewhere there in the first 10ths oldest continuously populated cities in the world (not only Europe;, the city many different names can vouch for that:: Pulpudeva, Trimontzium, Philipopolis, Puldin, Filibe... (we use to memorize the list for school, those are the few I still remember). Thank you for noticing that the ruins are really nicely included in the modern city. It is really difficult in that city to build something new, since the moment you start digging, ruins pop up. I remember as a school kid (that was the 80') I was in one of the crews to unearth the ruins, when they started digging the road under the central post office (you show it at 6:41). Let me tell you, the archaeologist were not at all happy that they decided to proceed with the road. The mosque you show is not a functioning one, there is one more, a bit down that same street. The 8% muslims is a bit misleading, as they are mainly concentrated in two regions (Разград и Кърджали) - it is quite peculiar, there they make about 80% of the population, but then there is no real need of mosques in the other places (of course in big cities like Sofia and Plovdiv there will be). The ancient theater you show at 2:36 is forever used for different concerts, plays, so one.. and it is quite amazing if you think about it: romans were sitting where now you will sit to enjoy a piece of performance. The only thing I do not like is the fence they mounted recently - at 3.15 you can see it in its full "beauty" and I really do not now how it was allowed to be put there. Before, you can always go sit on the stones, and enjoy the view. Probably it was due to people getting in for free for the performances, but this is not a good reason to spoil the view. The ancient stadium was quite big, they were using it for chariot racing, so the "Hunger games" reference is quite on spot! You can see the "singing fountains" only after dark and yes, they are quite the show, just as in Dubai, but here they use also different color lights, so I would say even better (this is personal preference, some people may not like it to be so colourful). When they opened them, back it the 70', I remember the first night there were so many people around the lake that you cannot catch even a glimpse of what is happening, probably half of the city was there that night. Also about the Main Street at 5:47 you talk about bumping into people, but (at lest in the past) that was the purpose of it - every evening people will take strolls up and down, so you can meet your acquaintances and I remember my father stopping every 10 or so meters to talk to someone, my point being Bulgarians did enjoy "bumping into people you did not intend to bump into" very much!
Honestly guys, well done. You should be paid by our lousy Ministry of Tourism by promoting the country. Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo and Ruse are my personal favourites. LGBT rights have improved quite a lot. Sofia Pride began with huge tensions and we reached to a level of higher tolerance yet more needs to be done. You probably have heard of Azis - one of the most famous Roma gay singers in Bulgaria. Yet very highly talanted.
Perfectly good (& cheap) train service between Sofia & Plovdiv & for other places variety of buses, then you get to travel with actual Bulgarians! Hotel Rila next to the Presidential Palace and built for visiting Politburo members is an experience you shouldn't have missed. Veliko Tarnovo is hopefully on your itinerary?
