We recently visited one of the UK's top gardens - Tresco Abbey gardens, sited on the gorgeous island of Tresco within the Isles of Scilly archipelago. We also had the fortune to meet up with the Head Gardener at the Abbey gardens - Andrew Lawson, who generously allowed us to film him as we were taken on a detailed tour of these historic terraces.
Check out the following links below as we publish further instalments of this tour:

Really enjoyed this video and will look forward to more. Can I make a few suggestions?
    1) If someone asks a question (v hard to hear) can it be put on screen? We only hear the reply!
    2) a list of all the plant names spoken of (eg the ‘pea family’ plant at time stamp 5.23) and
    3) lastly, the date the video was filmed?
We visited Tresco in September 2022 so it was interesting to see it at what seemed to be a different season.

Hi there, and thank you for getting in touch. Unfortunately the second microphone failed right at the beginning of filming which was a complete pain, but with decent speakers or headphones you can hear the questions fine although they will be quieter. In the main we just let Andrew do the talking with little input from us. We changed to a different camera after this video so you should be able to hear all of us much better then the next couple of instalments. All the filming on Tresco was done last week. Unfortunately, I won't be putting a list of all the plant names in the description because of time constraints and it will be out of context. The relevant names are listed within the body of the video itself, plus there will be further videos to come where we Lorna and I do our own tour with the names on the screen as well as a few videos honing in on some of the specific plant species. Yes, that pea plant Andrew called Perligula! I have never heard of it, I can't find any references to it and I can't find a pea family plant with even a similar sounding name. The problem with these more exotic gardens is that it the range of plants can be very different to those that I would be familiar with on the UK Mainland so while my plant knowledge is good there are always plants that I have never come across before like this 'Perligula'. Another thing to consider is that even experienced gardeners can sometime incorrectly name plants. I do it myself even when I my brain knows full well what it is called, it just doesn't always connect to my mouth. Great questions though, thanks. Simon

One of my dream locations to visit and i noticed you have another video about travel advice. I assume you are just on holiday there?

Not really, we went there to research a report we are producing for the RHS on what ranges of plants we can expect to grow in the UK as the country becomes more affected by climate change over the next two decades. Lorna is a big fan of the 'Walk With Me Tim' channel so we took a leaf out of his book and make a couple of travel videos while we were there. That way we can make the most of our visit, and offer some different content on our channel. Viewers seem to really like the New Inn review so we will do this again when we are away next. Simon

Love that cypress. No offense to the head gardener, but it’s better the way you explain in your content.

That is very kind of you to say. I have probably just had a lot more practise at it. Simon
