The 2nd sonata of Rachmaninoff is probably the main piece made with my professor, it took more than 2 years then. Today I completely reinterpreted it, but this interpretation occasionally accepted every remark and advice Mery gave me. Probably, this sonata is closer to her pianism as her main tools (also pedagogic) were the hope and the disappointment. Such a lesson of humanity from the professor. But there is a place for my recent intonations - as one day Mery told me: «the perfect implementation of fascism in music - is also a great value».
Beethoven also a special composer for us. And this piece took its time. The first part we've made in the auditorium, but the second she hadn't given me, as Mery was afraid of my abilities in counting. Nowadays, I've learned how to count, but Arietta still challenging in different way. It waits to be filled by something: Andrey Gavrilov said once that Arietta is the Paradise. But I would argue to him that it is not a Paradise, but building of the Paradise. The first part somehow destroys its world. And Arietta builds the new one from the ruins. And this is our task. I think this is the Beethoven's idea for this sonata: who is able now as participant of the performance to donate a part of yourself - that will be rewarded with something very valuable.
