- Building, painting, and weathering the Tamiya 1/35 6x4 Krupp Protze truck. This personnel carrier is one of Tamiya's older model kits, originating from 1978. The boxart suggests German grey or winter whitewash schemes. Included in the kit are three figures - one driver and two passengers, plus a wide range of stowage and weapons. In this video I use the hairspray technique to weather and distress the paintwork, plus weathering pigments to add mud splash effects.

@@ModelNerd Do you intend to build the Quad including the limber and gun? Just add a crew for instant diorama. ANOTHER great, vintage Tamiya kit. I LOVE the Tamiya LRDG truck. After all the years since it first appeared, no other manufacturer has attempted to produce and release a similar, competing kit. Nothing looks better than a LRDG loaded up with tons of guns and supplies for an extended mission in the desert. I look forward to your upcoming efforts with your Tamiya oldies but goodies.
The quad is painted and the decals have been applied - I just haven't done any weathering on it yet. The version I have is only the quad (no gun). I'm not going to use the kit figure because he is in desert gear but I've done a European camo pattern, but I do have a figure from a Miniart set that should work.
Weathering here is spot on. Anyone who's worked around military vehicles, knows first hand how brutal the elements are - even to this day. I can imagine any Kupp Protze still in service towards the end of the war, would have been mauled.

Intrestingly enough there are two versions of this, one that i have comes with 3,7cm antitank gun being towed and completaly different figures & accesories.
I think I've seen it since I made this video, though it seems to be quite rare. I believe the back of the truck is also slightly different (ammo storage?)

Yeah, I think you're right. I've tried salt but it is too humid where I live - the salt just goes damp on the model :(
Man that looks outstanding. I was in the U.S Marines. And yes I trained with the British Royal Marines. That was fun. But the model really looks like the real thing. Like if it came out of battle that's what it would have looked like. Again great job. Take care

The measuring devices on the front of the truck are actually called semaphores. It’s a way to indicate which direction the vehicle is going to turn. Great looking truck!

Nice work. I built and scratch built several conversions, one is a light repair truck by taking off the sides and replacing them with metal tool boxes and a tarp. The other was a communications truck, was thinking also off a field first aid truck.

Really great job.....really enjoyed the build and your commentary, very informative as usual. I remember those kits back when I was a lot younger....really fun to build (although badly finished with non-model paints and lots of glue to fill the gaps!!) Will look forward to seeing the Tiger soon.

Fantastic build💯 your paint really brought it to life 👍 I remember that kit when it was released and wanted it just couldn't afford it. Had to wait till my 20s to get it. Girls alcohol + some other things caused me a brain fart 😁 It has always been enjoyable back in the day, that was state of the art. I have it again and the AT truck by Tamiya. In my stash might have to add it to my Anzio dio. Again fantastic build.

The reason the Worn Effect Fluid made those big spot was because it will do that if it’s not applied on a matte surface.
I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll try out some test pieces and give it a go. Thanks for the tip.

Hi. I can't remember the exact colour but it would have been oil paint thinned with odourless thinner.
Never had that bubble effect with he chipping fluid...maybe sprayed it too heavy? Regardless, awesome job and think I'll get that kit for myself!
Thanks. Yeah, I'm thinking either I sprayed it a bit too heavy or maybe it wasn't dry enough before I sprayed the paint on top.

So you know how you painted the wheels black say I wanted a muddy look would I paint them brown?
I'd paint them black / rubber black still, then cover them (maybe partially) in something to simulate mud.

Nice work uncle model need, but you got to sand them sand lines out.
Where are you seeing them, Rick? I don't necessarily show dry fitting with cleaned up parts but I do my best to clean up before assembly.
