I highly, HIGHLY recommend HYPER DEMON as a game to go insane to. The visual style is accurately described by its developers as a "dream from the future." You play the game and at first can't tell what the fuck is going on. And your subconscious learns faster than your conscious. Even when you start being able to make decisions and understand the game mechanics, it's still primarily just an experience of pure flow and insanity.
I had watched most of it, but I feel you I fell of midway through season five, and now im maybe 2 episodes from finishing thanks to this guy. Can't wait to relisten when I finish either.
You're very quickly becoming one of my favorite essayists! Love the work that you put into these. They remind me of an early Jacob Geller. In a similar category to the games you mentioned in this vid, have you tried Just Cause 3? I feel like it fits pretty well into this
@@spookymcg Have you ever thought of dedicating a video essay to it? I feel like it's a game that absolutely begs for analysis, but it doesn't ever get it, since people see the bright lights and explosions, and they think that's all there is to it.
I did not expect that your good taste in horror was a sign that you also had a good taste in video games. If you've never tried it, Synthetik: Legion Rising is a fantastic rougelite that I think fits the video topic pretty well and is just SUPER fun and in-depth. Great video as always!
"Oh cool new video from vibey essay dude" Presses play hears opening and immediately pauses- head in hands "Connor... I need coffee for this. Maaan." AND I WAS RIGHT. Also nice i love talking about doom and destructy game. Keep up the good work, subvert expectations, do crazy cold opens, ur killin it ✌️❤
@@spookymcg Hey man I vibe with the chill vibe, you could do a video about idk crop rotation or something and I'd watch for the chill vibes and to learn something new. Talk about and make whatever interests or inspires you and people will listen man. Idk just don't feel like you HAVE to do or make anything spooky if you don't feel like it. Ultrakill and Cruelty Squad are two of my favorite games, which means alongside being a sick fuck, any games you mention in this video that I haven't heard of are immediately something I think is worth checking out. Specifically, the only one I haven't heard of before; Rollerdrome. Looking forward to sinking my teeth into it!
I have some roguelike / roguelite recs for you since you like them: For a faster pace like Risk of Rain 2: Gunfire Reborn (various platforms but I play on PC). You go around as your little furry character of choice (each with different abilities) picking up guns (each with unique traits) to try and survive a 3 part dungeon with a 4th bonus dungeon you can venture into if you're feeling ballsy. There is also an endless horde mode and some dlc you can pick up that adds 2 new characters each plus a few new weapons. It's best with friends but solo plays can still be wild and has a cute art style. For a slower pace like Slay the Spire: Slice & Dice (mobile, itchio, steam). Tactical dungeon crawler where your dice is your team and the side you roll on their dice is the action they take that turn (there is a rerolling mechanic which can be altered or manipulated on any given run) and you try to survive a whole slew of weird enemies. Its actually really fun and I feel like I've been obsessing over it almost. The art style is really nice and the achievements you fulfill often unlock new stuff and the sense of discovery is something I genuinely like about it. (there is a button in the options to cut to just unlock everything if that's more your thing though)
no shade to Gunfire Reborn, it's a great game, but the best fps rogue like available right now imo is roboquest. it has less classes than gunfire, but much better movement, and once you've scoured its secrets, you get every movement trick in the book, double/triple jumps, grappling hooks, a ground slam the endgame for roboquest feels closer to risk of rain, where your weapons are just torrents of death, though you do have to pay attention to your bar still usually. again no hate to gunfire, but as a movement junkie i couldn't get into it after playing roboquest
My gaming PC is down and I really wish they could open up the options for consoles to engage the vast indie game section of the gaming industry. These consoles are more than capable of running them yet they BLOCK that aspect of gaming to anyone who only has a console. At the same time this generation of gaming is having the smallest amount of games released. Especially if you want to count only the games even worth playing.. It's ridiculous and frustrating.. That's the best aspect of the steamdeck
Sometimes, you just need to stop playing the thinky games and start mowing people down, lol. My favorites for that kind of mood are any of the Warriors titles; Dynasty Warriors, Fire Emblem Warriors, Hyrule Warriors, etc. After Dynasty Warriors 5, they took a lot of the time limited events and strategy out, so you could just run around the map, mowing dudes down in the hundreds as you make your way to the end of the stage with no negative repurcussions. I always feel like I'm the wrong kind of ADHD when people say they need constant gameplay instead of a story, lmao; my ADHD makes me give up on a game if I can't clear content quickly to keep the story moving!
I just remember I watched one of your videos before and it says this came out an hour ago and all I remember was the last video was good don’t reheat it was tho😂😂
Have u tried SlayersX, pseudoregalia, corn kidz 64? I hope we see new games that utilize PS1-PS2 era design, art style, etc. ~I wish the game industry would change their approach to gaming. Bring back previous gen games, but they are made in our modern day. Game projects like that will cost less $, take less time to build. We drastically need Additional selection to our game library. We need games that harness art design. Designs that have proven to be timeless. Cell shaded, low poly effects, pre rendered backgrounds, 2D, 2.5D, creative 3D that's not trying to be hyper realistic. Inspiration from previous gens shouldn't stop, just because new consoles have come out. Timeless games don't need hyper realistic graphics. Some of the best games have creative art styles such as Sly Cooper. Anytime i say this someone in the comments always says: "well we have indie games" but that's not my point. I wish the gaming industry would recalibrate their focus & start making games for consoles with all sorts of styles & designs. Just look at current Gen consoles Game Library's? It's NOTHING compared to the N64, PS1, Xbox, GameCube, dreamcast, 360, PS2, Sega Saturn, classic PC games, etc. Life would be amazing If game companies will start making games that are inspired by these previous gen designs. We shouldn't leave those unique aspects of gaming in the past. Hopefully the struggles of the modern triple AAA games will organically transition the gaming industry back towards a better direction. It's exhausting how long it's taking for most games to be made. Just for a lot of those games to end up being total let down projects anyways. It's crazy. Idk how these game companies have been able to keep getting away with this BS.
I do have to say something thats kind of funny, I have ADHD too, yet I tend to be in the opposite side of gaming. While yes Gameplay is important to me, story is way more important to me. like example, a while ago, I was pulled into the game Control by its story and premise before its gameplay.
This was very early in the video. Interesting that from what I can see, the closest game that has made me feel this would be Farcry 6. That feeling that you yourself need to be quiet and whisper as you stealthily take out everyone in a base.
1:49 RAHHHHHH THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES MENTIONEDDDDDD
RARAAAREARAAAA!!
I genuinely cant tell where this video is going from the title. Thats a good thing.
I know right?? I was thinking the exact same thing! Can’t wait to find out…
