World's Oldest Tattoo Artist Tattooed Me 🇵🇭 Apo Whang-Od

- Buscalan, Philippines 🇵🇭 - Many years back I've seen Apo Whang-od (Fang-od) on TV, and always wanted to experience this myself. She's the oldest tattoo artist in the world and the last mambabatok (traditional Kalinga tattooist).
After spending a few days in Sagada, we hopped on a couple of jeepneys headed towards Buscalan. On the way, we chatted a passenger, Conception. She connected us to her brother Francis, a seasoned tour guide, they invited us to their home in a nearby village. It was a stroke of luck, as typically you need to book tour guides a week in advance. Little did we know, Francis Pa-in is THE original tour guide of the area, with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Despite the initial uncertainty, we made it to our destination and left with both tattoos and unforgettable memories, all thanks to the hospitality of Francis and his family.

I see why you were excited for this one brother! Great video, I still haven’t decided if I will ever get a tattoo. But if I do decide to one day I hope I have the honor of my first tattoo being done the great Apo Whang-od! I wasn’t there but watching your video made me feel like I was, it made me feel happy-sad if that makes sense! 😂 You had an awesome tour guide, and what a honor it was to not only be tattooed by someone so legendary, but to also be complimented by her as well 😉 and welcomed into her home!

Thank you for sharing us your experience. It was an arduous trek which entails stamina. At least we saw the villages and the beautiful mountains in that place.
Learned also some of their tradition. Especially that they still have the burial place of their loved ones near their house. That practice was discontinued in the lowlands long time ago.
It was definitely one of my favourite regions in the Philippines, very different up there
go to atok benguet, and try to camp in mt. pulag, mt. timbak. or mt. olis, my favorite is mt. olis because of the 360degree view of sea of clouds!
Sounds all amazing, but I left the mountain province already a couple of weeks back

Don't be sad, Philippines has so many islands and places, it's hard to visit everything, especially if you have to take ferries or flights all the time, it is getting expensive 😅

They pray for the soul of the deceased after 9 days. We call it Pa-syam. Thats a Filipino tradition. And then the 40th day is next the family and friends get together for another ritual to pray for the dead. And celebrate his past life.
