  • MINTERNE GARDENS - a fascinating Himalayan collection of rhododendrons & azaleas has been listed in The Top Ten Gardens in The Times. Set in the Minterne Valley and landscaped in the manner of Capability Brown in the 18th Century, Simon Jenkins, a Guardian journalist, called it "A Corner of Paradise".
The images in this slideshow were all taken in May 2014 by RHS Photographer of the Year 2012, Josie Elias. Late Spring is a spectacular time in the gardens offering a fantastic display of colour and interest. The gardens are laid out in a horseshoe below Minterne House, with a chain of small lakes, waterfalls and streams. They contain an unique collection of Himalayan Rhododendrons and Azaleas, with Spring bulbs, Cherries, Maples and many fine and rare trees. The garden is also noted for its Autumn colouring. Do subscribe to our channel to follow the videos of the garden through the seasons.
    Opening Times:
The Gardens are open daily between 16th February to 9th November, between 10am and 6pm. Admission is £5.00, & there is a ticket kiosk at the entrance. Children under 12 are admitted free. Dogs are welcome on leads. Please note that some of the paths are uneven and steep making access for wheelchairs difficult. There is free parking and picnic facilities available. Minterne House itself is NOT open to the public.

What a beautiful place to visit - I shall recommend to all my friends when they next come and stay in Sherborne as you are only a short drive away!
