      I think it has to do with the fact that we listen to these guys on O&A for hours and hours on end, and unlike most entertainers, they are just talking as they normally would and sharing their lives so you feel that you get to know them as a person. With most celebrities like actors, musicians, etc. the only times you see them they are literally playing a part of a completely different character than who they actually are. So I don't understand how people can think they feel close to someone like a big movie star from watching their films, it's just fucking delusional.

    I discovered Patrice a year before he died after I found Opie and Anthony and the more I grew to love them the more I grew to love Patrice especially. I swear I was in the parking lot of a store in a car just thinking about how funny he was and I remember thinking to myself " I hope he doesn't die in a car accident, he really is special." I knew about his diabetes but I didn't realize how dangerous it was, just like I didn't realize how special he was. I stopped listening to O@A in late September for whatever reason and when I came back in December I found out he was gone. I cried like I have for no one else who I had never met. Only the good ones go young. Listening to him makes me feel like he's still here.

      +NemoNobody2092 Well I somewhat agree but there were tons of other great parts that werent patrice related too. I think the biggest loss of Patrice Oneal is that he easily could've prevented Greggshells from going down and gotten Anthony out of the woods, and it's possible he could've gotten Opie and Anthony close to talking or at least a lot more civil than they are now with each other. I happened upon Patrice by chance in mid 2012 through Elephant In The Room. After watching the masterpiece of a special, I remember being so happy to have found him. I immediately googled him and was hit with the fact that he had died only months before. And even though I've enjoyed so much of his material since, there's always been that utter sadness and loss since the moment I found him.

  • @WaldoBagelTopper
    @WaldoBagelTopper 2 года назад +92

    Wow. It's been 11 years already.
    This is how I found out about Patrice. 11 years ago, 10 days before he passed away, I was almost killed by a drunk driver. I was in a trauma center for about 8 or 9 days. Since I had a leg break, my family bought me an iPad which I was apparently getting at Christmas time anyway. But I got it early because I was bedridden or had to be in a recliner all day. That's when I would watch RUclips a lot and started finding all these little O&A clips and videos. And then just like anyone else, I found myself cracking up during Patrice's relationship talks and all these little burns he and the guys would give each other.
    But Patrice is always a weird thing for me because I found out about him during this moment of calamity in my life, only accented by the fact that he himself faced the end of his life at the same time. It felt like one of those "almost in the nick of time" moments. I would have loved to go see him one day. My brother got the pleasure of seeing him live.

      From what I can see, Patrice was on his way of maintaining the balance of the trifecta of what his personality was:
      - His already known Raw Comic persona
      - Becoming a pundit who truly gave a shit about people (The episode where Patrice was a guest of Alex Jones was a perfect example of this! PM me if you haven't watched the interview.)
      - And becoming a borderline Cult Leader.

      In a perfect world Patrice would still be alive and join pre-T.S. (pre-Times Square) O&A as the fourth mic. I'd love to see him, Jimmy, Ant, Vos, Bobby and them shitting on the younger generation of comics like Joe List, Dan Soder and Mark Norman (who I think are great comics as well) and listen to his take on the whole Trump/#Metoo mess.

    • @im.tellingyou
      @im.tellingyou 6 лет назад

      Norm, Attell, Stephen Wright and a few others are much better than Patrice onstage. When they were alive, Carlin and Rodney were funnier too. Patrice was a really funny guy with a unique interesting perspective but I think his standup was still a work in progress when he died.

    Every 2 years or so I go on a O&A Patrice binge. This time I started in December, it’s now mid March. I usually start getting the RIP Patrice tribute episodes recommended to me around a month in and I avoid it like the plague, trying to listen to as much Patrice as possible before realizing the finality this episode has. His words are powerful when listening back, it’s like he’s still here.
    It’s a beautiful tribute, but hearing it, reminds me he’s gone.

    I'm grieving for a man who's been dead for 8 years and whom I never met and have never known when he was alive. Goddamn Patrice is a huge loss in the world. He was the only black man who's racial complaints I'd legitimately listen to because his ideas were authentic to him. There wasn't an ounce of fakeness in him - he lived his life like he wanted to and he's a goddamn role model for all men to emulate.

  • @tobyseraph9435
    @tobyseraph9435 11 лет назад +41

    This was such a loss and I must say that it not only made me sad but it made me angry. One voice out there that kept it honest and real. ONE VOICE! and it had to be silenced so early. Patrice was one of those honest guys who kept it real all the time and everything he said swept away all the layers of social bullshit and fake facades that one has to deal with so much on a daily basis. But still I am glad that all of his stuff is preserved for everyone to enjoy. It's just that he had so much more to offer.
