One of my players is a Loxodon Monk, and he's not only terrifying, he specced into Slight of Hand, and goes around dropping grenades in the bad guys' pockets.
If his sheer bulk isn't enough to topple a building, you can be damn sure he's carrying enough ordinance to do the job anyway.

Your "peaceful murderer" idea is one of my favorite niche tropes. I'm always inspired by "enlightened violence bodhisattvas" that represent the terrifyingly calm enlightenment that comes with martial arts and violence.

Fun fact elephants love to get drunk. They eat fermented fruits like we used to do and get drunk. They also love human alcohol. Jumbo a famous circus elephant had a beer every night with his handler and grabbed him if he forgot to get the beer out. So loxodon should also love to get drunk and probably would make some good shit
with their body mass? they could drink whiskey like beers. What with their nature-loving attitude, they'd probably make the best god damned moonshiners this side of fantasy kentucky.

Monk of the elements loxodon hides underground, and will beat the snot out of you with his quarterstaff, his trunk, AND boulders. the trunk can unarmed strike, after all.

We just had a small campaign where one of our players was an elderly Loxodon monk. She was the grandma of the group and put out more damage than most of us combined.
My race is size of 4 year olds
Lox is our transport tank
I am officially heartbroken at the fact Loxodon can't hold weapons with their trunk. It would have made a really cool gimmick and is by no means as powerful as getting a free feat, or your hp getting set to one instead of dying. Imagine for a moment your a small goblin with nothing but a sharp rock and a loincloth; when suddenly you see a 400 lb. elephant man charging at you in full plate with a Stand (Spiritual Guardian), holding three swords, one of which is empowered by a literal God.
I like to think that it can hold someone by the neck while they rip your arms off
It's pretty simple. How would you use that trunk-bound weapon? A bonus action attack? Then you can't use three swords because your offhand would also need a bonus action. So... what else? Just... choosing an attack as part of your attack action to be made with the trunk-bound weapon instead? Meh.

@@onyxrose4349 How about when you use a bonus action you can attack with all offhand weapons, but your trunk weapon suffers an accuracy penalty equal to half prof. bon. (rounded up) alongside being unaffected by said bonus (ability score mods still apply) since the character has to focus on all three weapons. The reason it is reduced by proficiency bonus is because your damage will go up as you level alongside prof. bon. This way the player can still be able to attack with three weapons, while still balancing it by reducing trunk accuracy
This got me thinking like what if > trunk holds a throwing dagger (bonus one time attack?) or ,
better yet, a magic wand (light weight) and possibly cast magic missile or better spell .... yeah it can get imbalanced ... imagine whole party of Laxodons that would be extremely fun ... imagine 4 Laxodon assasins trying to sneak around but failing stealth many times hahaha ...

Actual elephants have been observed picking up sticks with their trunks to swing or throw. It’s only a matter of time until someone gives an elephant a grenade and loxodons won’t be fictional much longer.
Edit: you people talking about arming elephants with human-sized guns aren't thinking big enough. Elephants have historically mounted cannons on their backs - train an elephant to operate such a weapon and we don't need to spend so much money on tanks.

Seeing a Loxodon Armorer would be legitimately terrifying. I think they'd be ideal Eldritch Knights, seeing how they rely on memory for their spells and an elephant never forgets. ;)

loxodons sound great! Some of the prehistoric elephants look really funny but if you want to use them you need to keep in mind you need to pick one that still has a trunk. A deinotherium, gomphotherium, anacus, amebelodon or stegotetrabelodon could be fun (to say nothing of mastodons or mammoths). Also keep in mind dwarf and pygmy elephants!
Also Since the Loxodon have been around for a long time in Magic I can heartily recommend looking at the card art for inspiration.

Loxodon are one of those races that I always try ti find a way to include in a homebrew world because they are so much more interesting to me than you're standard Elf/Dwarf/Human infested realm.
Once tried plotting out a one shot using only races whose base forms did not appear in the PHB. Having these characters who are so different from standard humanoid norms forced me to think really hard about how cultures/lifestyles/creative pursuits would develop for a society that are born wearing heavy armor and hatch from eggs, or if they had additional appendages. Unsurprisingly, it was really difficult.
The elephant people. It's a simple idea. You take the loxodon, the leonin, and the new hippo race and you're ready for your African safari campaign.
They just need to make the Giff a playable race.

I have a concept character waiting in the wings of a Loxodon Monk/Barbarian named Kushinda who is basically just a very kind old man that believes it's his spiritual duty to try to help everybody he comes across. He has a saying:

I always remember the behind-the-scenes documentary for the first ice age movie, saying that since Manny‘s mouth can’t be seen from the front, so they had to put a lot more work into his eyes to sell the emotion.
Also, elephants communicate from long distances via infrasound, so you can do something with that.
Played a loxodon circle of spores druid in a Dragonheist campaign. Think a 400lb, 8 ft tall elephant woman in a Morticia Addams dress. There were no fewer than three different times that one or more of my party members remarked that my character had become the scariest member of the party.
I love the mammoth Loxodons from tarkir, which they should really make a book about next. Tarkir has a lot of interesting factions and the whole time travel paradox bs because of Ugin.

One trait I would give Loxodons is that they see the human looking races as being cute and adorable, they would even be the parent of their party making sure their cute allies are taken care of (making sure they eat healthy, brush their teeth, wear appropriate clothing for the weather, ect)

My boyfriend is playing loxodon for our Strixxhaven game! We just had session 0.5 on Friday. I'm a wizard (the only one, to my surprise!) Dhamphir because who doesn't want vampire/highelf parents.

The philosophy of Loxodon can be summed up as: "don't start shit, don't take shit"
How to build the ultimate grappler:
* Play a loxodon fighter
* Take the unarmed fighting style (your punches do 1d6 if one-handed and 1d8 if two-handed, and you can deal 1d4 bludgeoning at the start of your turn to something you've grappled).
* Grab the tavern brawler (can grapple something as a bonus action) and grappler (advantage against grappled enemies) feats ASAP.
* build complete. standard operating procedure: BA grapple an enemy with your trunk, then hit it with 1d4+2d8 damage very round until it dies.

loxodon armor isn't JUST leather armor, it's super special one of a kind constitution armor where your AC modifier is determined by your bulkiness, not your agility

I have a Luxodon war priest character. I started the game off as a gentle giant "let's not fight, war is pretty bad for everyone/ pray for peace."
After he saw the main antagonist commit war crimes and mass devastation, he pretty much turned into a grimdark crusader. Very much a Black Templar now.

My favorite character I ever played was a Loxodon barbarian who was trying really hard to be a real elephant but couldn’t overcome his peaceful nature. I’ll bring him back one day, such fun roleplay

I've dealt with a banker loxodon cleric, very much a lawful evil character.
Loxodon can also be found on Arcavios, the planar setting for the recent Strixhaven book, one of the 5 face students of the school, Quintorius, the Lorehold student, is one, and there was some ancient civilization of the Loxodon called Zantafar
I player a Bear Totem Warrior Loxodon in my friends game. He was an absolute blast to play, grappling and commanding the battlefield through sheer physical presence alone. And, true to his race's nature, he died on battle against a young red Dragon, with his friends life on the line.
i missed those videos, and this one was very educational, as i had little to no idea about this race informations.
I made a loxodon cleric and I cannot stress enough the two most awesome things that it brought were thanks to the Trunk
1: You can basically cast and bonk without dropping a shield as you should be able to "pick" you mace with your trunk as a free actiom and then cast with your hand, or pass the mace and bonk, swaping seemlessly without the drawing, putting away being an issue, also Torches on trunk means shied, light and casting simultaneously.
2: The legendary move of grappling someone, then restraining by grabbing both arms and torso with your own, pinning them under your weight... And choking their helpless bodies with your trunk, absolute paquidermal domination.
Honorary mention: got a grapple and automatically succeded do to powerful build on lifting a guy and dropping him of board a ship, instant "peaceful" elimination.
There's a loxidon blacksmith in my homebrew world that works with a gnome enchanter and makes self repairing armor and high grade magic weapons. Dude is covered in tattoos to honor his fallen comrades. Part of me is hoping the party rouge tries to steal from him so he can snap her in half in front of the party like a twig.
I like this race. There is something really nice about them.
i had a loxodon open hand monk who was like a bohemian hippy, traveling and getting tattoos from all sorts of places. then she got ptsd and took levels in barbarian. the campaign ended after that, but i'd love to play as her again and see her learn to fully master her animal rage
I made a character for a comedic one-off that was a Loxxie Monk-Barbarian (or "Babarian" as Patrick Rothfuss says) and she turned out to be a terrifyingly effective character. She was played as a yogini who sought inner peace by expelling her negative emotions ALL over the bad guys :)

I played a Loxodon War Cleric in a short-lived homebrew campaign. So much fun. Chill dude but he’ll smash you to pieces if you do evil or fuck with his friends. First time we got into combat I pursed my lips and let out an elephantine battle cry.
Im currently playing a Loxodon Druid called Gerald Longstaff and i love it. Hes a mischievous young adult Loxodon who is a little quick to anger - especially when his friends are threatened, and he loves to play pranks on people.
Im playing him in such a way that he grows over time to become more at peace with the establishment and more in line with normal loxodons, but he'll never lose his love of fun and mischief

Whenever I'm feeling like I haven't been stuck in monotonous, repetitive actions to bring my crafting skill up 1 point by using all the gold I've collected in the last 3 months, I can come and watch the into of your videos and be instantly brought back to the crafting house in that opposite of summer city and remember good times of having everything changed on me and not understanding it now.
And then I get to enjoy a good video with steaming piles of content, fresh on my plate. Which reminds me, i should get my leatherworking up to 15 soon.
The way you described the peaceful alley loxodon is just perfect. I can imagine a tax collector Orzhov (ravnica bank church) Loxodon just coming up to someone's home to collect their debt, and he's just always smiling, calm, looking collected, and the moment he notices a single penny missing, the person gets the biggest whack of his mace on their head. Remember, the worst than borrowing money with anyone (specially the Orzhov) is taking it from someone who has a good memory. And Loxodons...well they do remember very, VERY well
