I'm an OG Blood Angels fan, started in 1996. I came back to 40k 4 years ago, but I hated the way the new and old models looked together. So I've been waiting years for this refresh. I love the way the captain's mask is straight off the Rogue Trader original. You won't hear me complain about sculpts. Scale is vastly more important than bling. Primaris will always look so much better than mini marines.
I have a similar story but I've only been doing firstborn as a "nostalgia" BA army, I didn't want any primaris BA, but these look so good I'm thinking now I'm going to start a Death Company BA force where everyone is painted and decorated in Death Company, even the characters, kind of like a "what if the whole chapter fell to the black rage?" hypothetical theme.
@@Mr_Waffle. awesome! Thats kind of thr basis of my successor chapter. Their home planet got pulled into the great rift, and the whole chapter watched as an expedition went to see what happened to it. Seeing the Daemon world drove a bunch into the black rage and the other into a psychic stigmata of crushing nihilism. They're all black now because it's just a matter of time. There's a slight difference between the death company and those who have yet to fall.
Totally agree with you on the Captain, it's exactly what I want from Primaris character upgrades: distinctive chapter-specific model with a bunch of option so you can run at least a couple of them without them looking identical, plus bits for the box. Sanguinary Priest is a bit meh... ditching the robes and making the armor more plain has lost a lot of the flavour of the old model. It's not bad by any means, but it definitely feels more apothecary than priest
I don't play BA, but these are great and make me hopeful that they are listening about removing a lot of the same ness out of the other SM chapters, and can't wait for the day we get a ne Pedro Kantor model.
Quick af. Gold Cap looks great. I think other painters will do a great job on the red armour. I'll probably buy several of the captain. Or at least 2 magnetised
Captain looks great. Versatile kit, could also be used as a lieutenant or to bling up a sergeant. The Sanguinary Priest is redundant, could have been made with the current apothecary model and a chalice stuck in the upgrade sprue. The model itself looks good, but it's a waste of design time and shelf space that could both have been better spent elsewhere.
I'm not sure about the new Captain, the bare heads feel a LITTLE too heroic scale for me? The gold painted version is AMAZING though, absolutely going with that if I buy it. Bit worried that this is it for the refreshes and we won't get any more since I don't see any tease of further kits in the article though. Hope I'm wrong though.
I'm glad about the muscles coming back, but I wish the sculpted torso for the captain looked more organic. I feel like the muscle sculpt this one has takes away from the gothic aesthetic of 40K and is more reminiscent of generic sci-fi art-styles. Also the sculpt on the left shin (viewer's right) just doesn't look right to me.
@user-tw9mh2cu5v probably wait. You'll still be able to find the old one for a lil bit and hopefully the new one will actually be tooled for the new rules. Its only a matter of a few weeks really before we get our hands on rules
The current combat patrol is actually not great for Blood Angels since there's no assault or jump pack marines, which are what BA want to run, a melee army. Everything aside from the BA upgrade sprues and transfer sheet are generic for any army (it's actually a decent box for Salamanders players...). I'd save your money and buy the battleforce when it comes out (be ready to buy it at release time- normally 10am your local time on the Saturday, do a google search to be sure- it'll sell out FAST).

@podger Yo, Valrak did call the Sanguinary Priest a while back but he stopped hearing the rumor so he was unsure about it. Captain is very good, I will likewise buy multiple copies of him. Sanguinary Priest is bland, not sure if I will buy him or just slap a chainsword on an unbuilt apothecary. Edit: I will need to git gud at painting faces as we continue to get bland mkX helmets.
Unpopular opinion: Warhammers new models look terrible compared to their old ones. They're so sterile and lack all the personality. I am SO bored by this new models its kind of crazy. i'm happy other people can enjoy them of course

I like that they appear to maintain a blood angels feel but are less busy then some of the older models

all the priest needs is a sword transplant and its perfect

The wing and cup wirh blood drop is 2nd company, the tycho wing wirh 3 drops is 3rd company.
If only we could get an intercessor squad that looked like the captain.

Yeah. My only gripe is I wish the sword had been a bit fancier. Just scaled up the old one.
Can't wait to see SG. The wing on the shoulder is a hint at how they might tackle stealing the wings. I love it.
I don't really click with the face+ridge/halo helmets on BAs, so I like that there is a more standard helmet as an option.
The best 40k models thay done for Space marines. Maybe even for IOM.

This the priest model is completely pointless & looks almost identical to the generic primaris apothecary severely lacking in BA aesthetic
The shorter hair heads look more like an Ultramarine hairstyle.
These releases are much better than the box. Shame no jump pack for the Sang Priest though

IMO that’s the best sanguinary priest model yet. Like the captain model, but the stance is a bit static.

That new Priest is one hell of a downgrade
I see it as a complete upgrade by not having those stupid armor nipples.
it's weird how they fucked up the main guys but the lesser HQ units are actually good enough. overall, lazyness included, Blood Angels are eating well

I've never seen the sanguinary priest in my life. The old model slaps so hard comparing it to the new one its like no contest in my mind
