Check out the 2023 Rick Beato podcast with KJ. Although his public performance days are over, he actually can still play some really beautiful music with just his right hand ruclips.net/video/xgL30jDhoQU/видео.htmlsi=kwvmyOfi0xkWOvcC
It almost sounds like if Erik Satie if he would have written this. I am always amazed At Jarrett's fine line of jazz/classical elements to his playing. He is one of the few that will be remembered 100, 200, 300 years from now.
Recordings like this remind us that music is not an ephemeral beauty. It will last as long as our memories behold its sublime nature....Simply breath taking. Jarrett is an amazing artist. Bravo..!!
Getting old isn't that tough. Keep an open mind. One doesn't have to get rid of favorite horses or piano players. I just got on this horse, Jarrett. He's givin me a hellova ride. He took me to hear Danny Boy, and I Love You Porgy. A different, haunting, unforgettable sound for me. Jarrett is a thoroughbred. A winner. Discovery keeps me young and curious. Try it.
It's so beautifull to see all his emotions while he's playing.. his love and hate for the piano.. he truly embodies his music. It can't get anymore real than this for me. An ode to what man is capable doing.. not only musically but spiritually as well..
If this was the only tune Keith ever played, his legacy would be assured. But it's not. He imbues everything he plays with the soul of an artist. And it's a privilege to share a piece of that soul.
My favorite Jarrett albums are The Melody at Night with You, Jasmine, and Last Dance. You should also check out Standards volumes 1 and 2. Many consider the Koln Concert to be his best live recording. Enjoy.
this is truly amazing from the first note to the foot that leaves the pedal.. wow. This is, for me, the best thing in the world, and I feel sad for all the people that dont/cant appriciate this as much as I do. I feel like a new person after listening to this, truly wonderfull
Mr. Jarrett tells us the tragic story of Bess as "she explained it to him through this brilliant rendition" - "Bess's Lament". I would love to have seen Ms. Misty Copeland dance to this music while he is playing it. My eyes are tearing - this music is phenomenal. Sorry, but Gershwin did not play the story of Bess like Mr. Jarrett. Thank you for the genius and gracious music you left us, Keith.
@@PJ-ce3pe That's a very silly comment because it's simply not true. They are both grand masters, I listen way more to Keith, it's what touches you more I guess.
Wow, what a stylist. I listened to Keith many years ago and his Death of a Flower album was one of my favorites. I also remember Nina Simone singing this song so beautifully. Jarrett shows incredible virtuosity to play it without words.
Well over 40 years since first hearing it, every note memorized and repeated in my head maybe thousands of times. Had no idea it was improvised, nor the backstory until today. Truly a pivotal piece of music in my, and I'll bet many others, life.
Also, I find that listening to his solo work especially, like his recording of "Starbright", there is incredible tension in there. You can almost feel emotion pulling at it, as if it's dying to break free, and he doesn't let it and the effect is very powerful. He's so concentrated. Listen as deep as you can, the music is so precise. I think if I could play like that, I'd probably find myself moving like he does.
yes, macdries, I agree, before being a musician he is a great human being. He keeps his humbleness, he is not carried away by fame, he maintains his sensitivity intact. And that makes him a great pianist!
I understand musicians being sensitive to showboating, like a conductor that's trying to hard, as if he hears and feels things we can only dream of comprehending... but seriously, I feel Mr. Jarrett's movements on the inside when I hear this. It's marvelous.
This is the only version of this song that I've heard that does justice to the emotion. It is one of the most powerful songs I know and yet you always hear it as some sort of jazz/lounge thing. Read the lyrics. You can't play this without it coming from the earth, and this performance, aside from being musically flawless (the harmony blows my mind) is an example of just that.
I have the transcription of this performance. The notes are easy but try reproducing Keith Jarrett's tone and phrasing. The man is a Jazz pianist but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have an understanding of the piano equal to that of the best concert pianists in the world.
I am aware of his classical endeavors, but I ignored them in the past because so often when non-classical artists dabble in the classics, the results are unsatisfactory. However, now that I am aware of his talents, I will check them out, too. Of course, I already have thousands of classical cds which includes great performances of almost any keyboard work of importance.
I honestly can't imagine the world without Mr Jarrett . I am so glad that he didn't make some of the dangerous choices that so many other great practioners of this music did .
Is normal, Keith is a perfectionist, and this kind of behaviour is typical of classic piano players, but as jazzist is simply amazing and unique. He is a genious, like Ray Charles or Beethoven.
Keith is not contrived... he is real and driven by his spirit. Let that criticism go and you have found a way to listen to one of the greatest improvisers of our time.
i can't begin to imagine what jarrett is feeling whilst playing this. it fills me up with words that i cannot describe, he makes me feel something far beyond words could ever explain and this is only listening to it. jarrett must be in his own world, truely wonderful.
Thank God for recordings like this. Jarrett can't play anymore, but we can still enjoy him (and be uplifted thereby.)

I can’t imagine my life without Keith Jarrett’s music. He opens me up.
Maybe the greatest love song ever written-Keith plays it fantastically.
I watch it again and again and again and again...
Recordings like this remind us that music is not an ephemeral beauty. It will last as long as our memories behold its sublime nature....Simply breath taking. Jarrett is an amazing artist. Bravo..!!
Mr. Jarrett, through his interpretations, makes us go through the most subtle dimensions of being
I think next time someone from Mars asks me to explain "love", I will just let them listen to this...I'm sure they'll get it...
Well said, thanks for your comment!
I loves you, Keith.

You know what... I think this is the definitive version of this song.
This is just sublime. His touch on the piano is one of the most sensitive in jazz.
No need to confine it to jazz.
It's so beautifull to see all his emotions while he's playing.. his love and hate for the piano.. he truly embodies his music. It can't get anymore real than this for me. An ode to what man is capable doing.. not only musically but spiritually as well..
He makes a sigh on 3:29... It's just love, I can feel it too. That's what music is about. That's what music is man. Keith... man...
If this was the only tune Keith ever played, his legacy would be assured. But it's not. He imbues everything he plays with the soul of an artist. And it's a privilege to share a piece of that soul.
so true, John P. I couldn't agree more.
I truly love this man. I loves you Keith.
I'm a huge Bill Evans and Ahmad Jamal fan, but know naught of Mr Jarrett. Have you any suggestions regarding where to start?
He is the pianist he is the voice long life i hope we gonna keep you in our heart s for ever
Merci Keith my friend Keith

Thanks a million!
A peace from Heaven.
Cheers!
Dynamics and pure touch says it all for Keith. He's got it all. Gershwin is smiling in the heavens.
This man has unbelievable voicings...he has tamed the harmony!

Keith is just a big river of music..

All his jazz music has made me think better thanks
This is the most beatuiful thing i ever seen in my life
Brings tears to my eyes.
deep in the soul with bill evans, high in the sky with keith jarrett.
Greatest living pianist,on jazz and classical repertoire...!
Maybe friend...but against the deceased jazz legend Bill Evans, Keith Jarret is just noise.
@@PJ-ce3pe That's a very silly comment because it's simply not true. They are both grand masters, I listen way more to Keith, it's what touches you more I guess.
What a sophisticated lyrical melody and harmony !
You can barely take a breath of when listening and watching him. Amazing musician! Bravo!
I'm flying in paradise

Love the keithism vocal "outburst" when he's in it. "AAHHH!!!"
he is so simple for what he is . i think he is the music itself
My God. This is heaven.
Probably my favorite song and so exquisitely played /felt ….am in awe
he is what he is....best living interpreter of the american songbook
Well over 40 years since first hearing it, every note memorized and repeated in my head maybe thousands of times. Had no idea it was improvised, nor the backstory until today. Truly a pivotal piece of music in my, and I'll bet many others, life.
Koln, Vienna, La Scala, Paris, Encores.. Without these music I don"t Know..

Отличный комментарий. Спасибо.
もう何も言えない。素晴らしい。
One of my favourite song played by one of my favourite pianist!!! =) I LOVE THIS SONG!
This man is an ARTISTE!
This is the only version of this song that I've heard that does justice to the emotion. It is one of the most powerful songs I know and yet you always hear it as some sort of jazz/lounge thing. supremely difficult and yet so simple.

Makes me feel alive -
I love you Mr. Jarrett all the way from Holland-eu. 🌷🌷🌷❤
Raw emotion that pulls at the heartstrings. A true genius.

Yes he's a pure artist.
Boulversant à chaque fois merci Keith jarrett merci
The communication of love, without the lyrics
Thank you to Gershwin and Keith Jarret! Something of unique!
My tears are my applause.
Jesus. Amazing. Thank you.
oh that cd... what elegance, love.. calm... beauty...
He says more in the 2nd chord of this song than I can in an entire solo. Not a day goes by when I didn't wish I was this man.

Those hands have so much breath in them. Phenomenal
この曲好きです
He has such a “masterful approach” to the piano!
I honestly can't imagine the world without Mr Jarrett . I am so glad that he didn't make some of the dangerous choices that so many other great practioners of this music did .
ok. 10th time hearing this in a row. I guess I'll stay at home the rest of the day.
Thank you very much for this.
The GOAT, definitively

Wow. Exquisite. Thank you for posting.

Just singing this today. What a beautiful version.

The album is The Melody at Night, With You. It's very good.
An amazing rendition of a gorgeous song by Gerswhin. That's what happens when a genius recreates music from another genius...
