My take--Missing Link is a premium product, at a premium price, and is definitely better in many ways. Legacy G1 is better as a toy. If he came with a slight rework of the Earthrise trailer, which is scaled better for this size cab, it would be even better.
$25 then is worth about $77.40 today. The price of a deluxe today would be about $8.14 in 1984, which IIRC was about the price of a car robot, depending on the store.
Apart from a Deluxe's budget (it really should've gotten a Voyager's budget for better size, better weapons, and some additional & more G1 toy accurate paint apps), the only thing Legacy United needed to have is to *NOT* have the potentially dumb design decisions that were made, such as those tabs on the forearms that supposedly go into the sides for truck mode. They don't work properly on most copies of this toy!! I literally clipped off the tab from the right forearm, and boom, the arm fits in just fine. (I may clip off the tab on the left forearm to match, strictly for aesthetics, as that side tabs in just fine...) The Legacy United one is pretty great for what we got, though. As for trailer options, yes, it seems that errybody and then some agrees on Earthrise - the sad sack of 🐳💩 that thing was actually IS pretty nice here - but if you don't mind a stylistic mix, y'know what else is a sad sack of 🐳💩 for what it was intended for but goes pretty hardcore with this?? The trailer from SS44 DotM Jetwing Optimus Prime...yesss. Of course, you'll have to slightly split the robot feet (where the 5mm port that's the trailer hitch is); for whatever odd reason, the post of that trailer's just a bit too wide to fit in there as is.
If they ever do a pepsi convoy from the deluxe optimus, i will buy it. I already have the missing link, so i dont need it, but i am definently getting the appeal of a version of the toy that i can actually touch.
I like this figure. The earthrise trailer is now belongs to this figure. And one of his blaster will go to SS deluxe devastation Optimus Prime. Because Hasbro never disappoints😅
I don't yet have ML Prime, but dollar for dollar, it is hard to beat the Legacy Prime. He's simple, fun, very poseable and I don't feel the need to handle him with kid gloves.
Only think that kept me from buying is the fact that he’s just too small. Idk if I’m the only person who has that issue but I’m not a fan of getting figures that aren’t to scale with the others I have
Unfortunately, my unit doesn't have the arms snapping properly to form the cab. The headlights still are out of the expected geometry. Also, the head always gets "stuck" at a weird angle when in neutral pose because the ballpeg is just not good enough. I'll have one of the (potentially) final batch' units of the Missing Link maybe in December or in January. Really not happy that half of the toy doesn't work as intended.
I got him for my desk. My missing link is tucked away!

When I was a kid $25 would get you a Optimus prime truck and trailer and still have change left
😆😆😆
Children's Palace, 1985. 6 year old me found Optimus buried behind some other figures on the shelf. My dad bought it for me. $21.99

If it was the same size as the Missing link version then this would be a must buy.

The first blaster was toy accurate the second one was cartoon accurate

Also noteworthy, Netflix Primes trailer also scales perfectly with this Legacy Prime.
Question, does the Legacy G1 Prime Energon Axe fit on the Earthrise Optimus?

NGL, I kind of want to sell my missing link one now that I have the legacy. Idk why but I liked the legacy more for the price I paid.
