CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Tuco (Eli Wallach) swings, terrified from a hangman's noose as Blondie (Clint Eastwood) points a gun at him then shoots, and sets him free.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In the last and the best installment of his so-called "Dollars" trilogy of Sergio Leone-directed "spaghetti westerns," Clint Eastwood reprised the role of a taciturn, enigmatic loner. Here he searches for a cache of stolen gold against rivals the Bad (Lee Van Cleef), a ruthless bounty hunter, and the Ugly (Eli Wallach), a Mexican bandit. Though dubbed "the Good," Eastwood's character is not much better than his opponents -- he is just smarter and shoots faster. The film's title reveals its ironic attitude toward the canonized heroes of the classical western. "The real West was the world of violence, fear, and brutal instincts," claimed Leone. "In pursuit of profit there is no such thing as good and evil, generosity or deviousness; everything depends on chance, and not the best wins but the luckiest." Immensely entertaining and beautifully shot in Techniscope by Tonino Delli Colli, the movie is a virtually definitive "spaghetti western," rivaled only by Leone's own Once Upon a Time in the West (1968). The main musical theme by Ennio Morricone hit #1 on the British pop charts. Originally released in Italy at 177 minutes, the movie was later cut for its international release.

Tuco dying would've probably ruined the movie for me
It would've just been mean spirited.
Facts
😅😅😅
If you have to shoot just shoot don’t talk
That would make Manco "The Questionable"
Tuco deserved to be punished like this, but the fact that Blondie saves him shows that he really deserves the title of “the Good.”
And shared half of the gold with him.
Tuco's still the best character but he totally deserved it
It should be called the Anti-Hero, the bad, and the evil. However this doesn't quite have the ring to it that the original does. Don't forget that part where they are bringing the dynamite down to the bridge and they see 2 union soldiers carrying a man on a stretcher, stop, and turn around and beat them up and knock the dude off the stretcher just so they could carry the dynamite a little easier. I really don't understand why Sergio decided to put that scene in there because it just seemed completely unnecessary and totally uncharacteristic of "the man with no name" to do something like that. In the first movie he is a full fledged hero who risks life and limb more than once to save people while getting only food as payment.
Stuart D this is a prequel
@@Phethario , the stranger was classy to share and not rip him off.
Just a dirty son of wah wah waahhhhhh lmao. Almost 50 years old, this baby is a classic! The shooting leading up to this scene was beautiful!
Champagne Pironi lmfao
I know, yah gotta love that end remark. Hey blooooonde...you know what you aaaaaaare?Just a dirty son of bwah wah waaaaah. That's still a good one for a chuckle, all these years later! You sorta feel like you'd be right there, saying the same thing!
The final line works even better in Italian, because the slang word for prostitute has two As towards the end, the word literally melts into the song.
Josey Wales he could have killed him but did like Hillary and made a profit
oh my god its Wales...….*starts to pull out pistol*
Rest in peace Eli Wallach.

+JenniferLawrence Fan2003 no way. I had no idea😐
Kempes SFA I know he lived a long life though
He was so great in this. Anyone know if hew was nominated for an Oscar?
Seriously? Wall Street : Money Never Sleeps, does not seem that long ago.
I do love the triple message of how Blondie sets up Tuco. First - "Here's your share so you don't think I cheated you." Second - "I could have killed you, so you owe me." And Finally - "I can shoot a rope from the back of a saddle at this range. Don't think about following me."
Humm, kind of tricky. I'll take for granted you and I and all of us have seen the movie aa 1000 times. By eliminating the possibility of that THIRD gun in that 3 man duel he was able to concentrate on Angel Eyes. He NEVER intended to kill Tuco. He intended to split the share but had to get that one last hurdle out of the way. But your 3rd observation just made good sense because all that money was involved. He just wanted a good head start out of there.
Blondie admits himself, "You think I'd trust you?!"
You wrote what I wanted to write but even better haha
hell yeah
Perfect summary. Blondie and Tuco made a deal. Blondie reneged. Tuco almost killed him as a result. Blondie realized that he reneged on the deal. Blondie also realized that Tuco was a rat. But a rat with a conscience.
People, could we take a moment to appreciate how extraordinary Eli Wallach's acting was in this scene in particular? He was outstanding all along, mind you, because his character was so colourful and endearing, but here, he outdid himself. The way he calls "Blondie!" while choking, panting, half enraged and half terrified by the prospect of his death, and at some point he sounds like he's sobbing. He totally nailed it. An amazing actor Eli was, I'm so happy he lived such a long life.
I am happy we are blessed with his art!
Totally agree, Tuco was the star of this movie imo, he was funny, ruthless and uncompromising, and Eli Wallach totally nailed it. RiP legend.
He totally sold that character!
The movie wouldn’t have been as great without him. He was as important as Clint.
@@Michael15_25 Indeed. I still have a soft spot for Lee Van Cleef too. He was bloodcurdling as Angel Eyes, and charismatic as hell in any case.
The greatest movie ending ever.
Nothing else comes close
tyvek05 no you missed the whole point of the movie. The Good “blondie” and the ugly “tuco” liked each other and worked well together the only death that should have happened did happen and that was for the bad “angel eyes” so yes it was perfect
Gary Besterfield I second this
nope, jurassic park is easily the best one.
tyvek05 nah I like it better because the you dirty won of a ... Wahaha
I like how at 1:53 Clint's expression is like "That was a damn good shot!" lol
lol...Like how can he miss from that distance?.
Sir Winston Lennon Yeah!
blockmasterscott yes
@@sirwinstonlennon6486 You got a problem with what I did, Anthony?
@@VCthaGOATdunker Don't get me upset now
Tuco was too interesting a character to kill off. Blondie just wanted to see him crap his pants. At least he still got his share of the gold.
Benjamin Lucas The Good and the Ugly got their share but not the Bad!😂 Oh well he was a killer anyway.
Benjamin Lucas It’s a little confusing.. Was Van Cleef the same character as in A Few Dollars More?Anyways it’s weird with Tuco & Blondie as they’re apparently both friends & rivals.. Almost like pro wrestling!
Andre Sihotang Well excuse me I’m new to this series.. And, just because the actor may be the same that doesn’t necessarily mean they are playing the same character in each film..
Andre Sihotang Hard to tell cuz they were friends in a Few Dollars More and Eastwood basically the same in every film..
@Andre Sihotang You literally said that Van Cleef played the same character...
Totally understand why Blondie had to distance himself from Tuco to get away safely. Tuco would have double crossed his own mother, he could not be trusted so Blondie done the right thing.
How was Tuco a double crosser?
@UCB2KGF6pki5r4s17IWUfsyw well to be fair Blondie double crossed tuco first so it was comeuppance
well Blondie couldn't be trusted either. Previously he double crossed Tuco, too. None of the them is really good or totally bad. They are all very flawed, but Blondie is just less flawed than the 2 others, Tuco is the most sympathetic because we learn from his brother for his traumatic past and he serves as comic relief on many ocassions and Angel eyes is the man we love to hate!
Tuco had neither a loaded gun nor a horse. There was nothing he could have done against Blondie.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I’m 61. I saw this movie when I was about 10 years old. Great times and awesome memories without a care! Going to the movies every weekend was such a great treat! Thanks mom for always making sure my brothers, sisters and I never wanted for anything! Not sure how you brought up six of us on a waitresses salary! R.I.P. mom.
I saw it at about the same age too only I'm a 90's kid. My father was a big fan of this movie and showed me it. Always loved this film.
90s kid myself and got into the good ol western already at age of 2, yeah a bit too young but, hey its the only part of my childhood I can appreciate, before all the bullying started...

@@FatherManus I was a kid in the 70s and my dad was into Eastwood movies, and I always enjoyed them As I got older I finally collected all the westerns on DVD. There is no bad Eastwood western.
much love and respect to your lovely Mom!
To me Tuco running for 3:21 minutes all around the cemetery to find the grave, and Ecstasy of Gold playing in the background is iconic masterpiece scene for me. I dunno why maybe it's the music or just that greed, desperation and fear on his face all at once. That scene alone is an entire movie's worth to me.
I just watched this movie and thought kind of the same thing--i'm glad I found your comment.
That scene is about finally getting what he strove for. What all of us strive to get (though that differs from person to person.) I firmly doubt, after getting his half, which at that time was a tremendous amount of money ($100,000) he would blow it all away and be poor. He likely gave up the life of a bandit and put away his gun and invested it in a ranch and bought cattle and flipped over his money. You want proof? Go watch the scene of the Magnificent Seven and the speech made my VIN (Steve McQueen) "Yeah. First day we got here, I started thinking: Maybe I could put my gun away, settle down, get a little land, raise some cattle. Things that these people know about me be to my credit - wouldn't work against me. I just didn't want you to think you were the only sucker in town."
I'd call whatching that scene for the first time a spiritual experience
@@Clara-nk8rdit really is 😂, anytime I find myself in a similar situation that song always plays in my head
the camera is synced to the music, thats why it impacts so big, it was a long term vision of leone to have the 2 in time
How Tuco stands is symbolic.
He stands and hangs unsteadily on a cross with the gold right in front of him. If he succumbed completely to greed, he would lean towards the gold and die.
Can we really control our greed even when knowing there is a rope around our neck?
The irony...A bullet saved his life and made him rich.;-)
Great analogy, brotherhood

Matt Pask That is pity...

Eli was one of the most realistic actors of his day. He didn't get enough credit for what he did.
Two of the best roles in movie history. CALVERA (the Magnificent Seven) and TUCO. Sergio Leone was no idiot. He knew who was the most important cast member and spent much of the directing and script on Wallach.
@@charlesortiz7496what makes tuco so profound?
i cant believe Eli Wallach wasnt even nominated for an oscar in this film
Prior to this movie and even some time after, the academy looked down on spaghetti westerns and didn't even consider them. Years later hollywood would be trying to emulate them.
Because unlike today this movie was considered as B movie back then and many people looked down to it just because the "western" theme, makes you wonder what kind of movies who being considered as average in this generation will turn out and considered as masterpiece and cult classic in the future..
Hollywood thumbed their noses down on Spaghetti westerns.
Well actually the entire movie didn't get nominated for at least one Oscar regardless it must deserve 3 Oscars at least for best direction, best cinematography, best original music and best supporting actor ( Eli Wallach as Tuco )
@@woahkiddowhatsup2306 And Best Picture.
Eli was so freaking awesome, I'm glad he lived such a long life. Tuco was was one of the greatest characters ever.
As iconic as the Man with No Name is, Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez (known as The Rat) is one of the greatest characters to grace the silver screen.
He is a hilarious comic relief, a sympathetic underdog, a greedy opportunist and a resilient badass all rolled into one. You love him, hate him, root for him, laugh at him, learn from him and connect with him. He is extremely well-written, full of personality and depth and was brought to life to maximum perfection by the Oscar-worthy Eli Wallach.
He is the reason The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is the cinematic masterpiece it is, other than Sergio Leone's direction and Ennio Morricone's music.
Agreed. Apparently he had free reign over his character's mannerisms. He had all the best lines and scenes. Which is incredible considering the film is full of great scenes
Tuco is absolutely the protagonist of this movie, Blondie is amazing, but whereas we see snippits of Blondie's character shine, we get a very big focus on Tuco, he's the focus of both the start and the end of the movie and he's the one subject to the main character growth in the movie, whereas Blondie was probably going to gun for Angel Eyes, knowing he was the bad guy here, Tuco was a wildcard, he had almost killed Blondie a bunch of times, while Blondie looks calm as ever Tuco legit looks like he wants to blow Blondie's brains out, but he doesn't and manages to trick angel eyes with the con that he's always done with Blondie.
Such a great character from such a great actor. RIP
👍
the film doesnt really take off until sadhill, rod stiegers preformance as juan miranda in a once upon a time in the rev. certainly holds up against tuco (the later character was originally a follow on gbu and tuco's son in early draft ideas)
That end dialogue cutting into the theme music was a brilliant ending.
a brilliant end to a brilliant film.
The very first time i watched this movie, the ending with poor Tuco standing there on the cross, rope round his neck, i actually felt sorry for him. This film was utterly brilliant. From the music score, to the actors. This is THE best western ever made.
I am grateful to Sergio Leone and to all the production for never having made a sequel to this wonderful film...Paganini does not repeat!
At least he left Tuco alive, and with his share of the gold
Blonde..Blondieeeeeeeeee..lol
"Seems just like old times. Four for you...and four for me."
Blondie had trouble putting the bags on his horse. You think Tuco would be able to carry 4 bags to wherever the nearest town is? Even then he gets stuck up by some bandits.
Coral Roper That's why he's the good. or fair.
Chandler Cook he wood just burry it and come back for it
Tucos face when he thinks it might be the end of the line for him when he’s trying to stay on top of the grave makes me feel bad for him.
The last 30 minutes of this movie are just golden
so is the rest of the film tbf
Only Coppola and Leone can create perfect pacing for a 3 hour or longer film. Barry Lyndon is a great example of that too.
Eh, I think the bridge sub plot should have been removed. It had nothing to do with the main plot and slowed down the movie for me. Everything else was brilliant though.
@@FatherManus that part is hilarious how can you not like it?
The pacing of the film is the best of any movie I’ve ever seen. It doesn’t feel like you are watching a three hour movie because of how it is broken down.
@@FatherManus that whole part was to show how blondie was effected by the war, he gains a respect for life in that part, and it’s shown that he’s become the “good” as he gives the cigar to the dying soldier.

TheDuckSneezes I wouldn't even bring it all even if I had a horse.
Way too risky.
I'd take a few coins and bury the rest in different graves.
When I was a teenager I had what was probably the most powerful air pistol BSAscorpion
Naw, Angel Eyes’ horse is somewhere close.
I think Blondie took his horse.
It's Tuco, he probably hide the most of the money and only have some of them and head to the nearest town to get a horse and come back for the rest.
Eli Wallach's Tuco is one of the funniest and most charismatic characters in any movie I have ever seen.
Perfect match for that role. His facial expressions alone make me laugh each time I watch the movie. You cant help but to like Tuco. Hes just way too funny and badass at the same time.
Hi Tuco
Tuco was definitely a jerk, but Blondie was the one who first tried to leave him to die an agonizing death in the desert. Makes you question his morality.
Blondie is definitely not as good as the title would try to have us think, but he's still better than Tuco and Angle Eyes in morality in my opinion. Blondie at least save people's lives and sometimes give them second chances compared to Angle Eyes who kills anyone ruthlessly for greed, and Tuco (though admittingly the film's best and most sympathetic character) who double crosses anyone when given the chance to.
That was the director, Sergio Leone's subtle way of saying that the US isn't always the absolute force of justice it purports to be.
History gets written by the winners, and sometimes the winner is "just a dirty son of a Wa Ah Ah Ah Ahhhhhh".
Leone wasn't making a statement about the US. He was making a tribute to the things he loved best about American westerns.
Blondie = chaotic good
Angel Eyes = lawful evil
Tuco = chaotic neutral
@@340guiltyspark was having this convo last night 😂
Blondie's last act of compassion to a person who is least deserving.
At last I found a person who understands the meaning of this...
what did Tuco do thats so bad??? Blondie double crossed him first!! if anything Blondie is the bad one.
Tuco is very resourceful. He will make it out of the desert with the loot. But he will get boozed up in a brothel and have it all stolen from him. Those damn brothels.
He's not in a desert, he's in a cemetry a few hundred yards from a river on the other side of which is a knackered town where he could likely get one of the horses belonging to one of Angel Eye's dead friends shot the day before...
That won't happen. He will shoot everyone in the brothel and ride his horse away.
Nahh, Tuco is a smart crook. The dude takes a bath with a gun in his hand.
@@eazye088 I can just imagine how awkward that would be though if you always did that and people be wondering "Why is that man bringing a gun into a tub?" but also realistically the gun has a chance of jamming since it's underwater.
Eli Wallach’s portrayal of Tuco was masterful. If his performance suffered, the quality of the movie may have dipped a bit. He was pretty much the glue of the movie.
Clint can never be replaced!
Blondie is a true hero. He taught Tuco a lesson but showed mercy at the same time. That’s a real hero.
That little smile of satisfaction from Clint when he looks up from the rifle sights
My undying love of Westerns began when my father introduced me to the genre with this timeless classic as a kid. He passed away this year (2021) after a Covid-induced heart attack.
I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing. May he rest well
Let's say as a supposed covid, which is better, goes. I see that there are still a lot of people willing to believe nonexistent things. When you are of a certain age and have a heart condition, a simple flu can be fatal. Exactly one of my relatives died this way in a non-"suspicious" time, which was in 2018.
Memory Eternal ☦️ 🕯️
Blondie wants Tuco to appreciate him for his partnership, honor (in so far as he recognizes that he has any) and for his skill and smarts. Tuco was outsmarted, outmaneuvered, and outmanned. The money is his (Tuco’s) because, in a way, it isn’t just about payback, it’s about the fact that he got paid. And, it serves for Blondie to leave Tuco, at least for now.
i agree with you beautiful girl
Tuco the man, Rest in peace Eli.

One of the best performances in film history.
Eli Wallich should have been nominated for an Academy Award for his performance of “Tuco”
The best movie of all time
Eli Wallach clearly deserved
an Oscar for this
i watched this movie as a 8 year old kid.. 35 years later.. still my favorite movie of all time.. Honor , loyalty , greed , camaraderie , stealth , tacticians , war , mercy . so many things stayed with me throughout my life still. Thank you Sergio Leone , Eli Wallach , Clint Eastwood , Lee Van Cleef.. thank you
I love how all the characters have different toned themes throughout the movie.
Blonde has a lighter more heroic theme symbolizing his Good morals.
Angel Eyes has a Darker and more villainous theme symbolizing that he has no morals
Tuco is somewhere in the middle with his loud and wild theme, he is a scumbag, but he has some morals. And that mix of both makes him my favorite character.
More human
"If you are going to miss, you had better missed well" - Tuco lol
I’m 70 years old and watched this movie for the first time in my life. I have TWO WORDS to describe my feelings - EPIC MASTERPIECE. I would love to see this in a theater on a really BIG screen remastered of course. As it was I watched in on a new 85” tv we just bought. In fact this was the first movie we watched on it.
I still can't believe that this movie is from 1966! Way ahead of its time. An absolute masterpiece!
Awesome movie a 10 plus. I am 57 and when the movie came out me and my family would go to the drive in movie theater and watch all Clint's movies. I feel very privledge because it will never happen again. What a blast
Gotta love The Good, The Bad And The Ugly.
Just in case you missed who was who.

it was a nice touch though you'd have to admit
It's worth it for "the ugly" shot and if you do one you have to do all three.
Best ending ever.
He just wanted Tuco to sweat a lil bit but in the end Blondie played fare 😂😂. CLASSIC
I like the clever censoring of Tuco's final insult.
Just once I'd like to hear the full line-we all know he probably recorded it.
I love Tuco so much, Eli nailed this. The scene between him and his brother is like Shakespeare.
Ennio Morricone, composer of the sound track. Dude deserved a case of Oscars.
Eli Wallach's acting with his eyes is amazing! They convey so much fear and hopelessness.
There is no finer ending, Sergio Leone the master.
Eli s acting was the best. He would go from scoundrel to best friend to thief to murderer etc. He truly did a great job on this part.
Best movie ever made 🙏👍👍👌🤠
I think this movie and Dr. Strangelove tie for First Place.
Tuco, my man, always crazy.but, these people are extremely good actors back in the days.

Eli Wallach was the greatest. He deserved an Oscar for playing Tuco. .
There's no dull moment in every part of this move. Watching it the first time in 1982, i still find it extremely difficult after 17 years of watching, to erase it from my memory.
