      sallyplus4 it felt real because it was real. Jane Seymour recently admitted publicly that they fell “madly” in love with one another during the making of this film. Really makes you appreciate it that much more knowing that.

    When I first saw this film in the early 1980's, I couldn't relate to it as much because I looked at Christopher Reeve and always thought of him as Superman. But over time, this movie has grown on me. It still nakes me believe in things like love and relationships. The music for this film, conducted by John Barry, always gets me. It's a very sweet melody that just tugs at your heart, and doesn't let go.

    When I was a kid my Mom used to make me watch it with her. I am not ashamed to say that even the opening scene makes me cry to this day. The movie is so powerful I have to be totally mentally prepared to watch it and can honestly only watch it maybe once a year, although it is never far from my consciousness. It is the true story of perfect and all consuming love along w/ a very interesting and realistic take on time travel - for ex. where did the watch originally come from? It can't be explained from the movie - it's a time paradox that would likely happen if one did time travel. Just a beautiful and tragic story - but I warn you, if you watch it front to end you will NEVER forget this movie and you will always long for an alternate ending.

      Joe, I lost my Mom a bit of 4 years ago, and she was still a romantic at 88 yrs old! She called me one day (in the 80's) and said, "Diane, you HAVE to watch this movie that just started." Needless to say, I've watched it probably 50 times! So nice to know a man is not ashamed to admit they 'cry' and 'feel'! Be Blessed, Joe!

    • @fee1776
      @fee1776 7 лет назад +3

      In the novel the watch was a gift from McKenna to Collier, before he return to the present. The way the watch was introduced in SIT does not make sense from a time travel perspective. The watch cannot originate in the past and present simultaneously.

    • @mtsflorida
      @mtsflorida 7 лет назад +2

      Eighties Joe that's a good question with only one answer, the watch was from The America Watch Co. out of Mass circa 1908 railroad model and purchased by Richard when he first visited Michigan in June of 1912. The watches were quite common there after the railroad accident. He left it there in 1912 and in 1972 it was returned to him. In 1980 he returned once more creating a full memory for his new life.

    OMG In my own life I relate so much to this film. In May 1964, I met and fell hopelessly in love with a beautiful girl of 17, barely 4 weeks before I was due to enter into a forced and tricked marriage. We had two beautiful, never to be forgotten days together and then from circumstances beyond our control, we were forced to part, supposedly forever, when she and her parents moved to West Australia. We were able to steal one more night together when I drove over there 5 weeks later but that was the last time. I drove back to Adelaide, a lovesick wreck. This girl had affected me beyond belief and I never ever got over her. I subsequently went through two more marriages (after the first tricked one lasted only 13 strained months). The girl in W.A. stayed in my mind forever after,.. I still loved her, I never got over her, even though she had gone forever, back in 1964.We all have one true love that soars above all others and simply NEVER dies , ..this girl was definitely mine,..but she was gone forever.....right up to a phone call out of the blue in October 1987,..over 23 years later. ....I answered the phone and suddenly I heard that voice on the other end of the line. I absolutely turned to jelly as I shook with utter disbelief....it was her voice. Shocked, stunned, surprised, emphatic, overjoyed, pinching myself, speechless or a combination of all of the above, hearing the voice that I had been positive that I would never ever hear again in my life.. We talked on the phone for three hours and the 23 year gap seemed like just yesterday. Three weeks later, I got back to West Australia and we fell into each others arms at the bus terminal. Both of us still trying to assure each other that this wasn't a dream, that we were together again,....after 23 lost years, we had found each other again. That was 6:30 am on the Sunday morning of November 22nd 1987. We spent all of our time from that moment on and the rest of the day and night, just talking and talking and talking, trying to make up for all the lost 23 years. Chris had just turned 40 years of age a few months before and still as beautiful as when we had first met in 1964. On the following day, Monday 23rd,..at exactly 11:01 am, while we were sitting at the kitchen table, still talking our heads off and trying to work out where we go from here, Chris suddenly suffered a fatal heart attack,.......and passed away in my arms. Words will never be able to describe what that did to me on that morning and the effect on me ever since. I never got over her during that 23 years and I have never gotten over her since that day, now almost 29 years ago. I have watched 'Somewhere In Time' so many times now and I continue to keep watching it as I keep remembering how much it makes me want to think,.....is it possible.....IS it possible.?....no, of course it isn't,....but then again..............???.......dreams are still free.

      The Critics of the time were still high the drugs "Star Wars" and "Superman" and other popular BS rather than script content. they wer eokay with fantasy as long as it had constant action, and critics are still the same today. Critics have to kowtow to the money making nachine too oiften to remain viable and popular themsleves. How many good movies go unnoticed because they don't have the nudity, language and violence and special effects and catchy main theme and a line of death toys to go with your Happy Meal? They wer o kay with the fantasy of Star Wars and Superman but not with this? Hahahahahhaa...hypocrites. To me this is Christopher Reeves' greatest movie outside of his sickening Superman series. After the first Superman, it went downhill. No one would accept hm as an actor beyond Superman for a long time. And Jane Seymour was wonderful in this. And Mackinac Island was the star of this picture really, everyone loves to go there and see where Somewhere in Time was made. Nothing phony about that.

    I know the love the two of them shared. I have the same with my wife. We knew we were always meant to be and to be without her now, I would want to do as he did at the end of the movie. I love her with a love I never knew I was capable of. And when I look into her eyes, I can see the same love looking back at me. We met 40 years ago and took different paths but we were brought together 7 years ago and were married recently. This movie is great and although I am a man who doesn't view too many love story movies, this one is the exception. They both played incredible roles and I just know they had fun doing it.

    There are no words I have to express my love for the music, idea, performance. But the hardest thing I've ever encountered is the way it made me feel about my life. It will always be with me. I have bought copies to share with a few but I really don't think it will impact them like me.

    4:29 the best scene""""""The man of my dreams has almost faded now. The one I have created in my mind. The sort of man each woman dreams of, in the deepest and most secret reaches of her heart. I can almost see him now before me. What would I say to him if he were really here? "Forgive me. I have never known this feeling. I have lived without it all my life. Is it any wonder, then, I failed to recognise you? You, who brought it to me for the first time. Is there any way that I can tell you how my life has changed? Any way at all to let you know what sweetness you have given me? There is so much to say. I cannot find the words. Except for these: I love you". Such would I say to him if he were really here. """"""

      Where were you in my younger days? Too bad our paths didn't cross. My wife thinks the movie silly and stupid. I could watch it
      daily. Every time I see a female with a long neck I think of Jane Seymour in her glorious Victorian attire. I guess I'm just a dreamer.

    Even though Richard had the fate of leaving her, it was only a few weeks until he saw her again Elise, by comparison, had to wait an entire lifetime, which in the end is the worse fate. And only over a matter of a few cents.....

    • @Mybpeterson
      @Mybpeterson 4 года назад +3

      @Qwerty123 You're right. Richard met her 8 years earlier. It was meaningless to him so he wasn't desperate to see her again. But once he loved and lost her, he only suffered a couple of weeks before he was joyfully reunited with her in heaven. Elise, on the other hand, was devastatingly heartbroken for 60 years. All that time she was figuratively dead inside but still breathing. I gotta agree with Bruce. Richard got off easy in comparison.
