I sure miss the midnight special and Don Kirshners rock concert every weekend back in the day. Greatest days of life. Great time to grow up as a young teen.
RIP cellist Mike Edwards (the one in the dark suit). After he left ELO, he became a music teacher. He died in a freak accident. While driving, his car was hit by a giant circular bale of hay that came rolling down a hill.
That was a great performance of Great Balls of Fire, I had no idea that ELO covered that!

There's a live version on either the "Afterglow" box set or the "Flashback" box set (too lazy to look). It was also on the live Long Beach album from 1974.
Woo!! That was awesome!!! Poor Jeff, he looked like he was wishing he'd remembered his sunglasses, though. Hehe. I really love the blue violin, and the cello players were having a grand time, too! Great tune for Friday!😃
I was in line to see this actual performance. Didn't make it in. Full house, even though i had tickets to get in. I wasn't the only one. Luckily for us after ELO finished their performance, a few audience members left and we got to get in. Next performer? SANTANA!! My alltime favorite band. All for free too! What memories.
@@gregoryduncan3067 Definitely practical. It looked like he was looking into the lights and was a little blinded. He does look cooler with them on tho.

He didn't wear them much until the "Face the Music" tour.
I’ve only heard ELO on radio, satellite and streaming. This cover seems so orthogonal to what they normally do. I don’t know if I like it or hate it.

What? You've never heard their first hit (in America) A great version of Chuck Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven". That's what got me started on ELO. They then proceeded to slowly disappoint me by getting more and more 'poppy" through the years...
Love ELO, but they seem bored by the song or mocking it in some way. It's not a great song, except for the incredible enthusiasm Jerry Lee Lewis had. And his rizz was off the charts.
Джефф так ярко и эмоционально поет. Чудо -такое лицезреть! Спасибо за видео!❤
Just keep whipping out the ELO. The more ELO the better.
Amen brother 👍👍
Just like cowbell...
Thank you The Midnight Special for allowing me to see this performance by my favorite group.
Join the line. I’ve been an ELO fan since the early ‘70’s…
Same!

I simply just miss America......
Very rare to see Jeffs eyes
He didn’t really exclusively wear sunglasses until around Discovery in 79’. Before then you can find tons of footage of Jeff without sunglasses
I’ve seen them live three times. The first time was in 1978 in Murfreesboro, TN. Jeff Lynne is a genius.

Woahhh freaky indeed ..did that happen in the UK or the US?
@@bojangles713 UK.
that is a fucked up way to go. sad though.
RIP
I think this was one his last performances with the band before he was replaced by Melvyn (Gale).
Oh My God!!!!Awsome!!!!!!
Its kinda funny watching cello and violin players get nuts! Great rendition of this!
Wow!!!! 😍 That ending 😱😍
R.I.P. Jerry Lee Lewis, a musical icon despite his weird and troubled past. We lost him in late October, 2022.
What a unique and fantastic performance!

ELO changed the way i viewed music as art. It could be an explosion of feelings.
Saw them play this live! Tucson Arizona 1975 ❤️❤️❤️
Grande cover, nunca tinha ouvido essa versão. RIP JLL
RIP Hugh, Mike, and Kelly
And Richard now.
@@mikecumbo7531 and Wilf (the best violinist ELO ever had).
😍🔝😎💡... Thank you very much!!!... E L O
Sensacional !!!!!
❤love this band and Jeff kicks butt Wootwoot 🎉❤
What a great group and a great time to be alive!
So much Balls !!!!

First time in my life that I see ELO playing this song. Amazing!
First time and a rare moment seeing Kelly Groucutt playing “Great Balls of Fire”
Wow, I liked it very much!!! Bruuuce!
I think you mean GROOOSSSS! 😊
Burt Sugarman, you GENIUS, you’ve “hit another one out of the park!”
Awesome! They were so great, and underrated.
Outrageous.... It's all about that bass!!
What a way to get the weekend started! 🙌 🔥🔥
Happy Friday... thank you for sharing! 💖
Another new old gem! Thank you … 👍
Love Jeff's brief elvis impression at 29 seconds lol
Damn, that was fun.
Jeff Lynne without sunglasses who’d have thunk it
It's like ELO in an alternate universe.
He looked like he wished he had them, though.
Practical and he looked better in them. Unless he just wore them to look 😎.

2:48 Bev!!!!!
They did a really good job with this. I had no idea they used cello and fiddle, too.
Using classical string instruments was a pretty big part of their identity
Where have you been?
They're great. So much fun to watch! I don't see cords coming from the instruments. Lip Synced?
This whole performance is live
#elo4ever!!!!!!!!!
Those English blokes are good!!!!!!!!
English blokes with the big fiddles!
That is the strangest left hand drumming technique I've ever seen.

No glasses?
The inspiration for Hold On Tight and Rock N Roll Is King.😎
Yeah, along with a couple dozen other early rock n roll tunes......
Kinda weird seeing Bev Bevman playing drums here, considering a few years ago, I saw him playing drums for Black Sabbath on their Born Again tour.
I used to love ELO back then. Now they seem ridiculous.
Yep, Just kept getting more and more poppy as the years when on.
Dorks.
To each to their own
Love ELO, but they seem bored by the song or mocking it in some way. It's not a great song, except for the incredible enthusiasm Jerry Lee Lewis had. And his rizz was off the charts.
You don't have a clue, little fella....
That was terrible haha
Silence peasant
Jeff Lynn so underrated!
