Full Restoration of Rado Senator - ETA 2798 Movement

- We at Pride In Watches restored a client's completely corroded Rado Senator which has ETA 2798 movement. Watch was pretty hard to clean up but ultimately it turned out beautiful and working perfectly fine now.

Hi, yellow liquid is called mercury lotion. It can be purchased any watch shop who also sell watch repair tools.
@@prideinwatches mercury is toxicity , you will get poison , don't use it !
I noticed that the day indicator ,the days of the week and face faded. Can you get them refinished or just replace them?

You got it running but didn't finish cleaning or removing the corrosion. This can be seen in the low amplitude. The mainspring was not "set" or out of shape so you have more dirt or worn parts that need to be attended to. Taking peg wood to the jewels would also help... or adjusting the amount of oil used. Did you oil??? Good job getting it running though. It looked like someone oponed the caseback and dropped dirt inside.

Viendo otros relojeros que hacen el mismo trabajo, quizás a este le falto un poco más de detalle. Tampoco se ven las maquinarias que tienen otros para limpiar los metales. En fin, vale el esfuerzo, no debe ser fácil, pero le faltó un poquito más.

From a fellow watchmaker with 20+ yrs experience may I inquire what that "magical elixir" is you use to "clean" the parts in? Looks like gasoline to me? Whatever it is I'd like to buy 5 gallons of it to "clean" my dirty/rusty watch parts (and engine parts) in. Also, how is it that the balance cock screw looks to have rusted in half but the steel hairspring was able to be reused? Luckiest person on the planet......

what happened to the anchor, because it does not move or is not original
Rado anchor does rotate on genuine dials. Even these anchors rotate freely with gravity.

Distilled water was used to clean the dial.
The yellow on is mercury lotion which help in cleaning dried up oil & dirt.
I’ve done one this badly corroded and basically soaked it in w-d overnight… yes the entire movement and it worked like a charm… thanks for posting

Rado anchor does rotate if it is cleaned properly. Even it rotates by itself in the dial just like the rotor with gravity.
In this case it won’t rotate by itself as the corrosion couldn’t be cleaned up.

Great work. I have got a very rusty seiko movement that want to restore. But due to heavy rust i couldn't disassemble the movement. Do you have any suggestions how can i remove rust?
Hi, Thank you for your comment. Try using little amount if DW-40 on the screws & let it sit there for few time. You should be able to unscrew them afterwards.

Hi, thank you for your kind words. The yellow liquid is called mercury lotion which is used to clean and loosen up the dirt, grime or dried up oils on the wheels or on the jewels. These parts then can be cleaned in a clear alcohol based solution preferably isopropyl alcohol.

I'd change the crown stem and crown wheel was a bit wobbly. On the watch dial side, maybe a bit more polish for hands. As I saw the movement before the restauration, I thought that only the main plate could be rescued. All in all lot of good work has been done.
I don't think this watch was found in a drawer. I think it was buried beneath hundreds of meters of sediment and found as part of an ancient greek digsite.

Really well done job. Unfortunately, the flaws in appearance do not allow you to enjoy the results of a lot of work.
You have already damaged the dial. Senator is faded after cleaning. You should know that dial should be cleaned without any liquid.But afterall nice work.

That definitely was not the dust in it but it was lose rust. As you must know that rust eats the metal & all the debris came out of the watch was that metal chunks destroyed by the rust.

Бессмысленная работа, посмотрите под микроскопом на цапфы колёс, у часов с коррозией все в раковинах будет. Эти часы нормально ходить уже не будут, что мы и увидели на приборе. 212 градусов при угле 52гр, а там угол наверняка ещё меньше, так что реальная амплитуда вообще под 180. В таких случаях меняется механизм в сборе. Нужно ценить своё время и деньги заказчиков
