A week! A bloody week! You and Advanced Knife Bro were absent for a bloody week! I was about to put in a formal complaint to youtube about the lack of free entertainment! Just kidding. But glad to see a new vid! Thanks for doing what you do.
Well Mr Pete, I want to thank you for hipping me to Creely Blades. After watching a few of your Mako videos I looked Gary C up and found he lives 35 miles from me. Imagine that, getting important local knifemaker info from someone on the other side of the damn planet. The mind boggles. I ordered a REX 121 in March and just got one in Cruwear today to tide me over until the REX 121 comes. It's beautiful. I love it. I want to marry it and have like ten thousand of its babies. Seriously.
@@tbrowniscool Still haven't gotten the REX 121. His recent update says he'll be shipping them in a few weeks and all 121 orders should be filled in 2-3 months.
I've come to realize that my lifelong knife collecting has up to this time been entirely aesthetic in nature because i had no concept of actual performance until now.thank you for expanding my horizon after 50 years.
Holy Crap Batman , thats a lot of cuts . And as a steel head myself I love watching these videos . But these 15° edges and huge amount of cuts are just a dream for me, because I've put a 15° edge on a few different steels and with my regular every day use , I fold the edge right over and thats just cutting cardboard , plastic ties , some wood , and a few cement bags , so for me , I've found a 20° edge is the best all around edge for me . Just my 2 cents...
Damn, Dude! You're turning out rope shavings on an industrial level! 😲 BTW, your shed door nearly gave me a heart attack. I thought somebody did a drive by on ya!
That's it, I'm sold, this is what I'm buying myself for Christmas. Between your praise of the ergonomics and that insane 1,200-1,300 cut test, it is a must-have. Loved the #Shabazzlevelpuns and sound effect, lol. Also, it was weird that the very moment I thought _"he's going to get some rotator cuff or neck issues cutting like that for so long"_ you had the Stretch Break segment, made me laugh. A job I used to have where I was in that position much of the day caused me to eventually have a severe rotator cuff tear, so be careful, dude. That shit put me out of commission for nine long painful months.
I got my Mako a few months ago and the ergonomics are just perfect. Great blade shape. Great build quality and design. Beautiful balance of function and aesthetics. I'd be curious to see how a production version turns out. Who would make it? Would it be a higher end Bark River or a budget friendly CRKT? Actually, a budget Mako could make a great little beater knife.
Everyone knows 440c is the ultimate edge retention. You on twitch? That smash bros footage was dope! Crazy rope cutting performance! How are the tendons feeling after that? Rex121 is definitely intriguing. 👍👍
I've read on bohlers website that they describe wear resistance in terms of adhesive and abrasive wear resistance. It's highly likely that a steel with such a large amount of carbides would be prone to having the carbides "torn" out when using a strop (or cutting something like rubber). Perhaps finishing with nano diamonds on a hard surface would be more beneficial?
Nice video again, but if I was you I would find another way of testing these knives. One which is harder for the steels, so you don’t have to cut so much like now.
Erasteel ASPN2080 would beat even this! Or around the same but unfortunately nobody made a knife from it yet. And I would take this over tungsten carbide anyday cause I have no fucking idea how to sharpen tungsten carbide..I wear my extra coarse lansky stone reprofile maxamet so in the end it's all sexi to have knife with such crazy wear resistance but I don't like it!! Xhp M390 up to S90V are the best options for blades cause it sharpens really easy and with decent strop you can extend the edge longetivity but not these monsters.. It's just a fucking hype!!! What could you possibly have to use this for to require such edge retention!? Test is the only thing I can think of..

Based Pete keeping the sisal rope industry going.

How is your 121? Very curious chap here

I'm here for the gyrating robots.

Here currently is finishing mine on the bench :p
Thx for this upload; really becoming an iconic knife blade test!! Anyone have a suggestion for a good rex 121 folder?
Good lord you had a whole little sheep on the table after that.

You need to get a Bradford guardian 3. That knife changed my life.
i got the Guardian 3.5 and it had the same effect on me

OUTDOORS55 I have a hyperdeveloped right hand and forearm, its riduculous
OUTDOORS55 make a knife out of it can’t be to different from simple carbon steel lol

Love the lab
Hey bro, love your videos but am curious how long it takes to sharpen the knives you test. Any chance you could include that info in your discussions?
Man... i wish i had the money to buy a knife like this...
What was that lovely music while the rope cutting was going on?
What does "13° convex" mean exactly though? How do you measure the angle of a curved surface?
That’s a dangerous looking stretch break..
We are in the end game now
Stay awesome bro. Love the vids. 👍😎👍
7:47 APOCALYPSE ...... nope, shed door!
Nice Pokemug. We’re all adults here.
Man how can you measure the sharpning degree with your phone what is the program that you are using ❤️❤️
"Just making mulch for the garden again Tree."
I heard if it ever reaches a rockwell of 88 it would cut through the fabric of space and time.

Wicked knife!!!
Loving the shirt 😂
Hello! Have you got a knife steels chart where you show how many cuts can do comper how easily to sharpen?
No I havent done enough testing to be able to make a chart that would be anything other than opinion based
@@CedricAda okay thank you. Can you offer to me a knife steel which edge retention is very good and quite easy to sharpen?
Elmax or S35VN are good, or CPM154
Try a 10 degree edge per side
BBB has some rex121 at 71 hrc I think and knowing how he makes his knives able to cut better then a lightsaber I wonder how that would do
that would be a definite sandrin killer, I suspect
Cedric & Ada Gear and Outdoors yup
What app on your mobile do you use for measuring the angle
SM100 was in my hero academia FYI
What angle id you sharpen at?
This is going to work, because if it doesn't you don't know what you'll do.
I need to stop watching these with headphones.
I have a challenge for you. D2 vs Rex 21. Use weird edge geometry. Black magic shit.
Why isn't Rex 121 more prevalent?
Dr. Tautology I think its difficult to machine
@@CedricAda and brittle as well?
Probably tricky to source as well, unless they're going to order a massive amount.
