- Spend the day with Mr. Hot Wheels, Larry Wood also known as Elwood (like his initials L. Wood). Wood has designed Hot Wheels since 1969 and still consults on designs today. He has designed some of the most famous Hot Wheels ever, including the 1949 Mercury, the Boyd Coddington collector set, and the Ramblin' Wagon. After graduating art school he worked as a designer for Ford and then in the aerospace industry, before moving to Mattel. We tour his garage filled with his artwork, streetrods, and years of Hot Wheels designs.

Wow this episode was a real treat. My sons and I love cars, we still collect and PLAY with Hot Wheels, The HW community here on RUclips is second to none. I want to personally thank Mr. Wood for the "Boneshaker" my favorite Hot Wheels of all time!!!
My family and I personally delivered that 1951 spartan ma sion 5th wheel trailer to him when I was younger. One of the best and most memorable experiences of my life .

"If you got 2 hands, you can build anything"
as plain as it sounded, it really hit me deep. Excellent video guys~
this guy is my hero... he is part of the reason i have my car obsession
he's living my bucket list.
For what it's worth, Mr. Wood, I flipped over all my hot wheels cars, and *i* knew the difference as a kid.
Yup me too
His comment on that made me smile because I did exactly the same thing... still do!
Wow this guy made my day, he has made history
I'm glad that Hot Wheels are still going strong, even to this day. And another thing that I liking is that Hot Wheels is getting involved in the automotive world. From JDM, Muscle, Hotrods, Euros, Trucks/SUVs, Bikes. Even to NASA space vehicles/rovers and Movie/TV cars that we've seen and grew up on and loved. Keep up the good work HW.
I still have a few of my Hot Wheels from the early 70's.
I have a few that you did ! Thank you, L Wood !
Regards
Marcos

Good times, collected a lot during my childhood.
The man has lived a wonderful life...no doubt about it! When I was a kid my Dad owned and operated a body shop, causing me to go the other way with my Hot Wheels. I'd beat them with a hammer and try to put them back together, like my Dad would do with the cars in his shop! Great memories!

I am a kid in high school who draws cars. I stopped drawing since I was a little busy with school and friends and I had Cross Country at the beginning of the year and Track in the last few months of school. I am a sophomore. I have a dream of one day becoming a car designer and designing the next Dodge Challenger. After seeing this video I have become inspired by this man. One of these days I am going to pass by his garage and see his whole collection. And hopefully get a drawing from him.
