It's a JOINT base. The very first sign says so. They listen to things. When you hear "Intelligence picked up chatter" this is where it comes from.

And we'd know if they launched anything close to geosynchronous orbit. We have sensors and radar that can detect a launch from anywhere. How else do these test by other countries get leaked.

Satellites can do just about everything when it comes communication and surveillance because of their orbit, focused antennas make it difficult to intercept. It also makes it easy to send signals all across the globe to just about anywhere, if you need to contact anything from a person to a computer in the middle of nowhere, they can do that.

Pine for sure is higher up on the list of targets to attack first during a nuclear war. Also, while no country says anything outright, we know there are probably weaponized satellites in space. There is even talk that America has satlities that actually can target OTHER satlities and destroy them if need be. But, how many, what kind fo weapons, where or if they are actually up there yet is kept classified.
And since most classified documents have a date starting at 10 years to stay classified, they do make exception to some files and may classify them for WAY longer if the secrets are to sensitive. Hence some files weren't unclassified for 50 years.

There’s a place near Alice springs called Cooper Pedy and it’s pretty much in the middle of nowhere. It’s very a unusual place as it’s a huge opal mine and people live underground by drilling out their own homes. They made a literal town underground and they even built an underground mall there somehow. They actually paid for the work already as each time they dig opals come out of the ground so they trade those in for cash and they gain actual profit and pretty much it burns out the cost and they gain profit. The surface though is too hot so underground is what they did. Heck even their hospital is underground. It’s one crazy place.

Kamir, if you look at a map of Western Australia, you will see a town of Exmouth on the NW Cape and 8oo miles north of Perth. I got there in 1967 to what was the fore runner of this base.
At the time my husband was in the Navy and this was a communication base for what was later the Viet Nam War, and was to supply intelligence to the military in the area. We had 3 areas A, B, and C. A was transmitters and was 22 miles from B (housing area) which was 22 miles from C, the receivers.
I was there for 2 years and don't know when the base was closed but Exmouth had it's 50th anniversary not to long ago and some of the buildings are still there.
Just thought you would like to know just how long the US and Australia have been working together.

Spy satellites just have antennas to listen in on radio and internet signals not hack anything. They also have near crystal clear high resolution cameras to get some crazy accurate photos but by figuring say a missile which you will see has a obvious heat trail and by following it and projecting the area it will likely land we can shoot it out the sky when it nears a carrier strike group.
One fishing ship of ours nearly got hit by a Russian test launch earlier this year, fortunately they didn’t get hit but it scared the crew pretty bad. That area was near the Diomedes islands which is legally American fishing grounds not sure but the launch was reported and the US is looking into it as we speak but the footage is online.

Just think about all the water that would have to be shipped into there to sustain a base of that size. Tankers filled with potable water are probably run into there daily. Unless they were lucky and found a spring in the desert like Las Vegas.
