As simplistic this beat is, it rocks. Plus its one of the illest beats ever created.
The drum sounds used were definitely E-MU drum samples. I have the same drums in my E-MU Mo Phatt Proteus sound module. Most likely the drums were sampled from the Planet Phatt module into the MPC as a lot of Hip Hop Producer's used the drums from those old Proteus modules back in the day.

Those drum sounds came from E-MU sound modules most likely the Planet Phatt that came out in 1996. I have all the same drum sounds used on the track found in my E-MU MO Phatt which is the 2nd gen of the Planet Phatt. I even have that burp sound that Timbaland was using on the Pony song as he used a E-MU Morpheus sound module back in the 90s. Some of the same sounds carried over to the early 2000s Proteus modules.
