Reiko Nomura's version on the 1994 album 'Piano Collections: Final Fantasy VI' is what most would consider definitive. The album was co-produced by Uematsu, after all. It's slower and has a more melancholy tone which I think people really associate with the character and the overall bleak tone of the game's story. In the game itself, the main theme version is a woodwind piece and has no arpeggios. So if the piano versions can take license with the structure and complexity of the piece, surely it's acceptable to take a little license with the tempo in your rendition.
Thank you for this information! Honestly I need to just take down my defense of the tempo I took XD I've learned over these months of recording that picking a tempo is completely up to me and my interpretation. I try to do my best but the tempo I choose can never satisfy all listeners. Which is okay- it's music and music is always changing and is open to many forms of interpretation. Thank you again!!
Kara Comparetto Love your humility and passion, very endearing. Always willing to express yourself through your love for the music you perform, but humble enough to take constructive criticism. Good on ya.
This is the track that began my decades long love of Nobuo Uematsu's incredible music. The ultimate adventuring theme. Like so much of Final Fantasy's music, so somber, an air of hopelessness, permeated by subtle rays of light. I could listen to this forever.
I've been practicing this song all week and I've managed to get 1 minute in, at 3/4 of the speed. Such a hard song. Thanks for the inspiration ; i finally managed it. it's one of my favorites to play. thanks or the inspiration
The Terra's Theme is the song of all Final Fantasy (because I've played almost all) and it belongs to version number VI, which is one of the best in history (although many love the VII because it is the first played by the youngest). As a kid who played this game day and night every day, I love you for making this video :') ahhh the memories. Hearing this again reminds me of the dreams I used to have as a kid. The feelings. Thank you... Wholeheartedly.
That piano sounds absolutely incredible. Obviously the touch and musicianship is incredible in itself and the piece is beautiful. Everything combined lends to quite the experience
The only problem is that i can't like this more times... Your version of it is still one of the most beautiful things i have ever heard... Kara, i love this piece of music when you play it so much!!!!!!!!!!!! ♥
Felicidades.
Great job! I envy your skill to be able to play this in person. Thank you for your energy recording and filming this; hope to be able to do the same one day soon. Happy to see all FF fans!
Once in awhile I drop by to listen to you playing "Terra's Theme" and then feeling a sense of renewal. As always continue to play with all your heart and I'll listen with mine! With love and appreciation, Kara!
At midnight, with my heart beating for the inspiration you give and about to clap being alone seeing your precious interpretation. Thank you so much for what you do!
This melody is one of Uematsu's best arrangements yet and in my opinion, one of the purest and most beautiful emotive saddening melodies ever to exist! And you made it justice with your art Kara! It's simply breathtaking..! I feel transported back into the game from my childhood, with this! Revives all the sentiment lived throughout all the story I played through! Congratulations! By the way, I love your attire on this video! Here, you remind me of Terra herself eheh! :)
I keep coming back to this rendition every time. This is one of the best and most soulful renditions I've heard of this beautiful piece. Amazing work, and keep it up!
I really enjoyed this cover of Terra's theme. I totally get what you said about wanting to capture the majestic quality from the OST, I think you really captured the epic aspect of it. Thank you for sharing your talent with all of us.
Thank you! I think so too. I think this piece COULD sound lovely either way, but I personally prefer it this way. Maybe if I was relaxing in a hammock with a cup of hot tea in the evening, I'd want to hear it played slower XD hahaha thank you again!
Throughout the game there are varying arrangements of Terras theme, the main one being the world map theme with the loud flute and bass guitar. This best matches that tempo and I love it! Please do more of 6, mystic forest next!
Haha you made me want to pull up iTunes on my computer so I can check the OST (which I own an official physical Japanese copy of since it's amazing) to see where it is. It's from the Opening Theme, Awakening, Terra (or Tina, the world map theme like you said), and you can hear the motif in the Ending Theme.
Nicely channeled. This is an ancient song from another universe. That Final Fantasy game, and others, as it turns out are real and from the multiverse. Leaked into our reality through subconscious channeling. Many find themselves going to those universes, even after our deaths on this world, especially the Japanese.
@@gaspersb I am a traveler and clairaudient. This is a common misconception. The infinite repeating universe theory. There is no such thing. There are trillion of universes, but the idea there is a universe for everything is known as Arcturian humor. Let's say a universe exists where ketchup tastes good on waffles. How these elements occur is a media property is unconsciously or consciously channeled, often by Japanese, because most older Japanese people are channels, mediums, telepaths. It's that simple. But yes, getting there is not possible unless it's through manifestation into a different reality, basically. Joining with such a power structure. Or available after one's death on this world.
I think your interpretation of the piece was perfect, I know wanting to please everyone is a big part of having a RUclips channel but playing how it sounds best to you is actually what matters most ;) You're the professional pianist after all!!! Xo
Thank you Anne! It's always a juggle. There are some I even want to record again, but it's because I agree with my critics hahhaa. Here I love how it came out and am satisfied :) I'm glad you liked it too!!
Purpleschala I just listened to the Distant Worlds arrangement of this theme and it was even faster! hahah so I think there is a lot of room for interpretation :) Thank you so much. You are a huge inspiration!!
i mean lets be real here, the distant worlds arrangement is garbage. your overall tempo is fine, I would do a few things differently (I would say your rhythm is too static for my taste, should be variable and deliberate) but the people saying it is too fast are just stupid so don't listen to them.
@purpleschala and @Kara_Comparetto I am obsessed with both your channels! I can't play the piano, but I am seriously considreing taking some online piano classes because of your videos. Go Girls!

Hahaa you're so eloquent when you write XD Thank you for this. I do realize that some interpretations are not as excepted, neither should they be. For instance, I probably would never play a Bach Fugue with full pedal, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's forbidden. Chances are though, it won't be accepted very well because it's very far from stylistically correct. But I agree with you 100%!!
Beautiful. Everything. My favorite video game song...perfectly encapsulates the sorrow, journey, and triumph of Terra's (and many others') story. Thank-you Kara.
One of my absolute favourite pieces of music. Makes me feel like I just witnessed something impossibly profound. The level of skill you play it with is mesmerizing.

Thank you Marc! I've been working on Time's Scar and Dimension Breach. Well they're fairly easy arrangements, it's just finding the time to prepare it to recording quality :) Shouldn't be too long!
The base melody for this song is absolutely haunting. Hearing it for the first time on the SNES's synthesized wind instrument really made you feel like you were about to embark on an incredible journey. Well done Kara!
Thank you! I'm surprised I didn't know of this one sooner, I remember the melody as a kid but I didn't even have the sheets until a few weeks ago. I'm glad it's up on my channel now!
I’ve followed you on Instagram for quite a while now. I remember sending you a message well over a year ago, simply mentioning how much I love Final Fantasy VI, and how this is my favorite composition from the game. Today I find out you have a RUclips channel AND that you’ve covered the song! It sounds great! ❤️ I may or may not have gotten a little choked up. The world will never know the truth of it.
When you started, it reminded me quite a bit of the piano part of the Young and the Restless theme. I love that piano; it sounds awesome. I expected to find info on the piano in the description, but I did not. I'd like to know; name, model, year, and so on. As far as the tempo is concerned, the original piece does NOT have a stable tempo, it's dynamic, ranging from 60 to 88 BPM, so really, your rendition here is fine, and absolutely enjoyable. Also, I've never thought of Terra's theme as sad or melancholic, but adventurous and exciting.
I started learning this after watching your video as my first mid-long term project as a beginner. A few months in and I can play about half of it, such an amazing exercise for the left hand also. Not as fast as you though haha. Love your videos, you're really talented.
Thank you Kara for the response.. Its really appreciated,, more then you know.. I myself think you're music and video is what youtube is truly about and should be.. Thank you again. And you look great.
Oh God I can see you were really inspired with this song, you look like an angel playing this music. You're gorgeous in this video, I couldn't take my eyes of the screen, couldn't even blink! Such a beautiful, iconic song, and you played it so well... Thanks so much for the effort you took to record this video, it's one more to my RUclips music playlist :D
Kara Comparetto ooooh! That's great, no I didn't change anything, maybe they unbugged my account lol my mind is racing, when I get something on paper I'll show you for sure :D
Wow your sound touches my heart and my soul. Dont care if anyone thinks its too fast or whatever, its your cover. Listening to you gives me goosebumps and the one or another tear. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Thank you! I appreciate this kind of comment, as well as those who hear it a different way. I'm here to play it the way I think is best, and I hope to make as many of you happy as possible! :D
nostalgia, perhaps? Which is in no way wrong. I get that way from listening to pieces that remind me of parts of games I used to play. Or shows I used to watch. Not everyone gets those feelings and that's fine, too. It was an appreciative comment, so, y'know...
most people react to video games or cartoon songs by sheer nostalgia, so if a musician gives a song a twist they go gun's blazing all over the musician because the song wasn't played "correctly"
Sorry for the late reply ( RUclips's notifications, grr ) Personally, when I hear the song, I imagine it being very tame, calm and relaxing, hearing all the individual notes giving you time to absorb it all and appreciate every note, especially around about the 0:55 mark when being played at 0.75 speed, on normal speed it feels very energetic, which in my personal opinion doesn't seem fitting. Don't get me wrong, you did absolutely fabulous with this song and nailed it, I just feel slowing it down just a tiny tad would've been perfect :)
Was about to post the same comment, but then I switched sorting to newest first, and lo and behold, I found your comment. That was exactly my thought - Aerith Gainsborough playing Terra's theme
Whats not to like?.... Final Fantasy Piano Beautiful playing Beautiful face Beautiful hair Beautiful dress Beautiful jewellery Beautiful colour contrast Lol 😍
I have no faith in Square-Enix nor Hollywood, so I hope they don't even attempt to do it. It would be amazing if they actually did an amazing job, but don't hold your breath..
This is absolutely beautiful. Final Fantasy VI is my favourite Final Fantasy game and the game has my favourite soundtrack ever. Again, this cover is so beautiful.
Everyone's got an opinion, and for what it's worth, I thought your tempo was spot on. I think a lot of people enjoy the song when the melancholy aspects of the song are played up, and I do too, but the song, as a whole, I think needs all the elements to be complete, including the passion and majesty you can convey at this tempo. Brava!
I do think this could be done well at a slower tempo, if that's the goal. I would appreciate an interpretation done that way, no doubt about it! But either faster or slower, the brilliance of the theme still shines through. :)
And after you were done playing you quietly slid your chair back, jumped up, and shouted "HA! FUCK YEAH! NAILED IT! FUCKING NAILED IT!" And you ran laps around the place hooting. Don't worry if you didn't actually do that, you did it in my mind so it counts. :P
Well....I didn't exactly do that lol....but between me and you, it took me nearly two hours to record this XD I did a couple nice takes but I just wasn't satisfied. So yeah, when I finally did this one I was really relieved XD
Subscribed, some of my favorite compositions played by a gorgeous lady makes me very happy. Thanks Kara for playing these music the way I feel when I hear them.
This track got a lot of play time from me this most recent winter. Probably one of the greatest songs to listen to while you sit and watch snow fall... and you crush it here.
Thank you so much for not slowing it down and turning it into a sorrowful, artsy piece. You nailed it in your description. It's a piece that is sorrowfully triumphant. Excellent cover, from someone who played this game for the first time in the mid 90s as a 7 year old and most recently as a 31 year old, 2 months ago :)
Well played, best piano version with adding the intro from “Dark world”! Fully expressed how Terra was confused by a strange emotion called love which she can’t understand at the begging and the complicate feeling about herself as a half human, but after the journey with friends she figured it out and staunchly decide to bring dawn to the future is also hidden in those melody lines at the end!
There is nothing wrong about how you played this piece. It was lovely. FF6 is my favorite FF and this is my favorite song from it. Thank you for performing it!!!
I found this amazing video while searching for music for a FFVI centered D&D campaign. I'm really glad this popped up because now I have new great channel to subscribe to :) Keep up the great work Kara!

As much as I agree in principle, it's because the overall tone IS melancholic the slow tempo a requisite of this piece.
the ingame tune sounds kind of heroic and martial for me

I don't know why, but this song always brings tears to my eyes, no matter the arrangement.
The music in FF6 is so haunting. Makes you feel the pain and happiness the characters go through.
There are so many songs in Final Fantasy 6, that just ... thrash my soul into pieces every single time I hear them.
FF6 has definitely the most touching characters in all of Final Fantasy.
I dunno about that subjective opinion seeing as most characters stories were about 15 mins long.

Clicked for the title,

There's something beautifully heartfelt and gentle in this performance. Breathtaking. Thanks so much for your hard hark.

Kara Comparetto you are very welcome. I look forward to everything from you (:
If you don't like the tempo, put the video on .75 speed
I can appreciate both speeds. The musician in me likes 1x. The geek in me likes .75.
Thanks for the tip. I enjoyed the 1x speed, but .75 nails it.
Not every heroe wears a cape.
OHSHOOT. THE NERD IB ME CELEBRATES
Yes. I think 0.85 would be perfect too.
Thank you Kara for the response.. Its really appreciated,, more then you know.. I myself think you're music and video is what youtube is truly about and should be.. Thank you again. And you look great.
From what I'm seeing, this video is literally Terra playing her own theme.
I think I'm able to reply now! Did you change a setting? Thank you for all your sweet words! And looking forward to what you're going to do for me :)
Kara Comparetto ooooh! That's great, no I didn't change anything, maybe they unbugged my account lol my mind is racing, when I get something on paper I'll show you for sure :D
Do Celes's theme from FF6 when you get a chance. It's so beautiful and sad at the same time
My favorite FF theme.
Literally made me cry
What is wrong with you?
nostalgia, perhaps? Which is in no way wrong. I get that way from listening to pieces that remind me of parts of games I used to play. Or shows I used to watch. Not everyone gets those feelings and that's fine, too. It was an appreciative comment, so, y'know...
Dont worry I'm crying too
This is one of my favorites. You brought out the emotions in this, love it! Thank you Kara
Thank you Tom!!
Playing this at 0.75 speed is perfect ❤
Yes it is. It's spot on where it should be.
hahaha! But I must ask, how are you determining the speed it "should be" at?
most people react to video games or cartoon songs by sheer nostalgia, so if a musician gives a song a twist they go gun's blazing all over the musician because the song wasn't played "correctly"
Sorry for the late reply ( RUclips's notifications, grr )
Personally, when I hear the song, I imagine it being very tame, calm and relaxing, hearing all the individual notes giving you time to absorb it all and appreciate every note, especially around about the 0:55 mark when being played at 0.75 speed, on normal speed it feels very energetic, which in my personal opinion doesn't seem fitting. Don't get me wrong, you did absolutely fabulous with this song and nailed it, I just feel slowing it down just a tiny tad would've been perfect :)
My favorite Final Fantasy piece from my favorite Final Fantasy game. What a beautiful rendition! THANK YOU for recording this!
When Aerith makes a tribute to her predecessors...
Omg i cannot believe that you, me and the other Dude who liked that comment are the only ones who see the truth
Was about to post the same comment, but then I switched sorting to newest first, and lo and behold, I found your comment. That was exactly my thought - Aerith Gainsborough playing Terra's theme
@gw4976 add me, too.
Final Fantasy 6 is my favorite from all final fantasy series --- characters, music, storyline --- just too good.
Whats not to like?....
Final Fantasy
Piano
Beautiful playing
Beautiful face
Beautiful hair
Beautiful dress
Beautiful jewellery
Beautiful colour contrast
Lol 😍
Awww :D
Kara Comparetto you're welcome 😍
Is your profile picture taken from nature or is it photoshopped? It looks awesome
Kara…
You really put your passion and heart playing this theme. I loved it !
Also, you look beautiful on this vid…Kinda resembling Terra from FFVI
One day they are going to make a great movie about the game and that's going to be a very good day
I have no faith in Square-Enix nor Hollywood, so I hope they don't even attempt to do it. It would be amazing if they actually did an amazing job, but don't hold your breath..
This is absolutely beautiful. Final Fantasy VI is my favourite Final Fantasy game and the game has my favourite soundtrack ever. Again, this cover is so beautiful.
Play this at my wedding..
I keep stumbling on other songs you've done, and I am so glad I did. You are so talented. I just love you.
Better than any Antidepressant
so beautiful

I love it. This is your rendition, and you absolutely owned it! Keep up the great work!
Very well done. I have no bias as i never played this game so going completely off of your performance, i was impressed.
Subscribed, some of my favorite compositions played by a gorgeous lady makes me very happy. Thanks Kara for playing these music the way I feel when I hear them.
Ohh thank you very much for this!!!
Ohhhh I like this!
Kara Comparetto 😉😉😉
There is nothing wrong about how you played this piece. It was lovely. FF6 is my favorite FF and this is my favorite song from it. Thank you for performing it!!!
Thank you! Has to be one of my favorites from the entire series!!
A great performance. Lovely! I could really feel the passion.
One of the most calming pieces to listen to at work
This is probably my favorite video Kara has done. It's always the first one I listen to in the morning when I drive to work and put on my Playlist.
I found this amazing video while searching for music for a FFVI centered D&D campaign. I'm really glad this popped up because now I have new great channel to subscribe to :) Keep up the great work Kara!
Thank you Brandon!!
Feel glad you played lots of famous songs from Final Fantasy. Thanks for all these sharing 🥰😊
Beautifully played by a beautiful, young pianist. You inspire me! Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much!!
