- James May is back in the kitchen, and this time he's cooking with gin!
While in the kitchen of the Royal Oak Swallowcliff he just may have concocted a delicious dish.
Check out James May's Gin:

From what I could gather after only seven minutes of searching, folk in the 1920's had recipes of pretty much every meat cooked with or in gin. Still, if I ever get to The Royal Oak Swallowcliffe just off the A30 between Shaftesbury and Salisbury which I've been told offers reasonably priced rooms, an excellent menu devised by the best chef in the region, and superb selections of wines, beers, and spirits, I'll be sure to stop in. Unfortunately I live in Pennsylvania so that may be a small glitch.
I'm not completely sure, but there's a rumor spread about that you better not be a fascist and go there.....
@@megaglowz8540 I've heard this as well, but they do allow dogs, children, and all non-fascists, so the only people missing out are ones that nobody really wanted there anyway
@@wilhelmkreis6578 wait a minute. There are restaurants that don’t allow children? Because I’ve been looking for just that a long time
I see a business venture here, a "Perillo Tours" kind of group to meet James and see his pub...I'm in!
🤣
I Like the cooks attitude , let us get more with him and James.
He didn't talk enough though
He can be james’ kaleb
Agreed
@@SF-li9kh nah i dont think so
@@SF-li9kh the man is a chef of a roadside pub in England. I highly doubt appearing on RUclips was in his contract
Now I want to hear a half hour lecture about polystyrene by James May
I'd actually listen to that.. lol
I like James May but he doesn't have as much knowledge of things as he acts like. He only really scratches the surface with common knowledge of things. I remember him talking about physics and he didn't understand what he was talking about, if he was pushed for details he wouldn't have been able to provide anything in-depth. On that re-assembler show he'd talk about things a lot but It was just stuff he read in a magazine. Same as when he'd be on about something in Top Gear or Grand Tour. I just think he's a bit over rated as a knowledgeable person. It's his shtick to "bore" people with knowledge but I'd like it if he told me stuff and I could actually learn from him. Some of his car facts are cool though.
@@dickJohnsonpeter He seems to be what is known as a T-shaped man, that is, deep knowledge in one sphere (maybe cars, but I don't know enough to judge that), shallow knowledge in lots of others
It's more of a methodical radio voice I think.. he can't know everything about everything of course.
@@NiksSofa Sorry, I was bored.
"I'm just gonna try the coq"
-James May, 2022
Oh, coq!
"It's delicious!"
@@ThughoriSadhu loooool
Never stop doing this! This gets me through my day!
Isn't Au gold?! So gin, gold and 🐔
Yea I'm painfully suicidal and I should talk to somebody, but May is great too.
MORE professionally themed food tribes like this PLEASE. We need to remember that James is a better chef than Ramsay.
And a much more wholesome on screen personality.
@@amandahodgin9316 Have you ever seen Ramsay's christmas specials? He does them at home with his children and it seems very sweet. Unfortunately you can't shake the feeling that he's gonna start swearing like a sailor at his girls at any moment.
James May can take the anything, no matter how simple or complex, and present it in the most interesting way. One of our generations most excellent TV hosts.
Never seen James dislike any food he tries. Everything he tastes says it's delicious.
Check out his cooking show...
Remember when Gordon Ramsay lost to James Mays cooking.
ItS dElIsCiOuS
Clearly you didnt watch him eat a banana and mayo sandwich
well not everything, like the v8 smoothie
"Like, comment, subscribe" - never gets old when James says it. Also wishing you a speedy recovery!
Definitely would love to see more of the Head Chef. Loved hearing his opinions. I think he should have his own series. Maybe a test kitchen where he tries things that wouldn’t naturally go together.
I never expected James May cooking videos to be my favorite thing on youtube, but here we are.
This is how all great culinary creations are made - "Let's try something no one else has done by following classic technique and using somewhat unconventional ingredients" Genius
The most hilarious part is how the subtitles never, at any point, writes "coq au vine". Here's every single thing it did have in lieu of "coq au vine" or "coq au gin":
Coq auvergne, coq au shot, cocoa value, copper value, talk about, coco jar, coq ojo, Cocoa jam, coq about, gotcha, gochujang, coq alone
I quite like it picked up gochujang of all things xD
the subtitles arent automatically generated. atleast if you choose the ones that dont say "automatically generated" so they are written by a human yes
@@travabone Not automatically generated by RUclips, doesn't mean not automatically generated by the channel staff. Seems pretty clear from all the coq ups.
It's coq au vin, though, no 'e'.
Sending well wishes to you James sorry to hear about your accident 😔🙏
Wait, what happened
@@anonymousontheinternet1309 he's okay first off; crashed in a tunnel during production of the new episode of G.T. Broke a rib, hit his head. was going 75mph. That's pretty much all the information we have. 99% sure he's already been discharged and went back to filming.
@@anonymousontheinternet1309 car crash while filming a challenge for the show. He tweeted that it was awhile ago and he’s ok now?
Either way I got the news this morning so I'm wishing him well wishes 😊
@@PaddyMcShane yeah it was months ago
Oh yeah!! Food content is back. Thank you. Thanks a lot
I can't speak about the chicken as I've never had it but the mashed potatoes looked divine. Next time I'm at the Royal Oak Swallowcliffe just off the A30 between Shaftesbury and Salisbury and enjoying a reasonably price room, I will be sure to try the chicken.
Will you be having a wine, beer, or spirit as well?
That information of the Royal Oak location is marginally more important than "Lurpak's spreadable butter invented in 1901".
Cooking with GIN? Nah ah.
I'm seeing Cooking with BIM
Glad you're okay James! Maybe next time don't take driving advice from the Hamster!
as a chef.
sutcliffes clearly an absolute wizard, you can tell by his mash. looks like a genuine pillow. mark of quality for chefs that is.
This is the first time I've seen an induction hob in an actual commercial kitchen.
I love these videos of James May doing food stuff!
Hi James, there is a pub a bit further west down the A303 that does gin cured salmon it's pretty dreamy!
Making this in Texas soon! I am on bottle 4 of this gin and love it. Thanks again James!
Hope you are doing okay James after your accident. Get well soon!
His accident was half a year ago, he's fine
He’s fine, they said that his injuries were not as bad as that they could’ve been. Especially for a crash at that speed
the news article says he crashed on august 12th though
whether it happened yesterday, a week ago or 6 months ago, I still hope hes doing okay. We all enjoy him being around and just wanted to say something about it after I heard the report on it.
@@BobaPhettamine The news reports are wrong and it's actually hilarious, shows how terrible news websites are at reporting and how people believe everything without any research. The crash happened in February/March when they were filming in Norway. Y'all are being baited for clicks.
Another episode of James tricks someone into making his lunch...
Coq au Gin sounds like an excellent idea. If I'm ever in England I'll go round to the pub and hope its on the menu.
I love how his journalist voice and face comes out from time to time "It is entirely exclusive to this Pub, The Royal Swallowcliffe just off the A30"😂
Tbh that gin bottle looks like something you would find in a chemistry lab
The menu should call this Oh Coq Au Gin par Bim, 29 quid.
Hey Bim!
Hope you’re well James!!!! 🤦🏽♂️
Definitely do more of this stuff!
Glorious Uncle May
Would love to see more of James with the pub chef!
Love the chef's attitude, 'cause you never know until you jump in.
Get well soon James!
Buy now to avoid disappointment
Absolute laughter afterwards🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Get well soon James
Saw the news today
JAMES MAY HOSPITALISED IN HORROR CAR CRASH!!!
James: I had a light bin
😂😂😂
I love how the closed captioning can't keep with James May. Some cocoa jam, though, does sound delicious.
James May has entered the lofi music era and I’m absolutely loving it
I'm going to try this for tea tomorrow night. Looks fantastic.
James clearly marking his bar as "No Fascists" is a nice thing to know.
Ironic isn't it? The anti facist banning an ideology lol
Really love the cushions in the pub!
Great stuff! Wouldn't mind seeing more of James ideas coming to fruition on the food table.
James is such a pro presenter, the words flow easily
Greetings from Royal Oak, Michigan! This coq looks delicious
The Royal Oak Swallowcliffe just off the A30 between Shaftesbury and Salisbury which offers reasonably priced rooms, an excellent menu and superb selections of wines, beers, and spirits is absolutely on my bucket list .
That looked genuinely divine. Would gladly pay the premium to give this a try👌
thoughts are with you james! get better soon! :D take it easy!
You know, if I tried to invent Coq au gin at home, even with James' Gin, it'd take a hundred tries before it was even palatable. A real chef does it once and it's great. That's the real magic.
Love these videos!
Gordon Ramsay’s next video will be using a different gin lol
I love these two guys so much, goon on ya James!
the inaccuracy of the subtitles are hilarious!🤣🤣🤣
You now need to invent a gin, specifically made for cooking.
This has become James Mays’s Gin’s channel
I've done it before, and it works great!!
Making a gin-sauce to some mediumgrilled tenderloin, mmm mmm mmm!
Greetings from Sweden!
Watch someone make a wine, whisky, gin and raspberry reduction sauce with rosemary to go with a pan seared venison.
I don’t know what inspired that unexpected last line, but it made me laugh out loud!
@dotro lke Are there a lot of fascists on the A30?
I absolutely love James May! If I could do a decent British accent we could be twins...In fact, we are almost exactly the same age, within a few days..
Confess to being biased but Jonny is ace (also my Godson) 😆
Not bad.
Can you please put out more cooking episodes with this chef guy
If I was going to go to the pub I would want James' famous Ramsay beating fish pie.
Thanks for the video, and sneeking a flood the cowling in made me smile 8:03
James is the best thing to happen to RUclips
We love you James May 💙
James May is the best youtuber I know. Well done james.
This is fantastic, more cooking segments please
Most great inventors were laughed at, ridiculed and shunned for their ideas, until their ideas came to life and nobody laughed ever again.
Serve it with a spiced parsnip mash and you’re onto a winner
Watching this with subtitles is an event in itself seeing YT mangle coq au vin/gin in multiple ways
Best advert for gin and pub food ever.
I❤️James May😍
Love auto translates menu name for this "Coco Jar", "Cocao Jam", "Gojuchan" a new one everytime :D
I would love to see Johnny trying Sarnies of the 70s
I heard about James accident in Norway. I hope he's alright.. My heartfelt wishes of a speedy recovery..
According to the news he is back with the film crew now.
I've had a gin tomato soup before and it was great.. I'd love to try this.
James! Perfect timing, made my bday even better
Happy Birthday~ :)
🙏🏿
And next on "Gin makes food gross," James is observing the cooking of Coq au Gin
Chef James is a champion, big ups!!!
James has become a natural RUclipsr!
Your marketing worked, James. Now I want to go there and try it out!
I cycled bast there when I was 17. Love the A30 down there. Fovant badges. Crewkerne. Cricket St.Thomas. Chard. Lovely bit of the world.
Do a open faced sandwich with buttered toast peanut butter and jelly with a sunny side up fried egg on it!!! It’s the best combination of flavors TRUST ME
"Weirdest chicken dish ever"
No, I remember Hen in a Pumpkin.
I don't know if this is way too late, but a Triber's Sando suggestion is a vegetable spring roll sandwich. One supermarket spring roll, cooked per instructions, wrapped in a buttered slice of bread. If you're feeling fancy, use granary bread - well, it works for me, anyway.
I feel like James is in his element with food
Hope you're doing well, James ❤️
INDUCTION STOVE?! HAYAAA…
Cocking f**king brilliance!
I live a little ways away - Vancouver Island - the west coast of Canada. I'm making travel arrangements right now to visit Swallowcliffe. Try to stop me.
So I take it you're never going to be using whoever botched the audio again.
I love how James just keeps promoting the pub 😂
Never change, James. Never change.
Sounds like the Only Pub a person should go to. I maybe have 1-2 drinks a year but if I ever had the chance i would definitely stop in for a beer and a meal.
i love this man
James is just brilliant
James we definitely did NOT forget about your FISH PIE!
I loved your video and It also brings back memories of TopGear lol
apparently james has been hospitalised after crashing in a drag race, hope youre well james
That was in March and is now being milked by the press. He is ok...
James May is a treasure!
