Checking in a year later. I'm working on something very similar. Have you gotten any fruits at this point? I'm also planning To use spawn, LC and possibly burning some wood in the area or suplementing with ashes.
Also, any advice on what to use for LC? I currently have lions mane, oyster and morel in jars with light malt extract solution. Lions mane and oysters are going great. Morel looks like it's going but very slowly.
Also, did this experiment work out? Did you get any fruit the first year?
I am working on a new tech this fall - I have learned much since this video:
1. much more spawn is needed - this planting was in spring so at least double the spawn should be planted to survive the summer.
2. Wild mushrooms fruited over morels in the last 3 flushes - I think they may be well established but have not confirmed natural species with DNa yet - it may be difficult to overcome native mycelium that has been growing for decades.
3. There are more adaptive phenotypes of morels, I now have a larger culture bank with 12 phenotypes (biodiversity=better success)
4. Freezing is critical and spring flushes occur after consecutive soakings - the setup I spawned is in direct sunlight in the early spring so it has a hard time soaking for pins.
I have a patch in my backyard as well and saw some blobs of sclerotia. I am going to focus on that location this fall - I plan on adding more beneficial microbes and building a hoop house for better environmental controls - Goodluck and MISHLOVE

Please, please, please... What do you use to make a live culture with these. I have 2 LC jars which I think are doing okay but I haven't tested them and they are very slow to progress? think I used like 1 gram light malt extract to 800ish ML of water. Again, used the same batch to make multiple jars. King oyster, pink oyster and lions mane are all doing fantastic but I'm not 100% sure on the myc in the eschulenta jars.
Advice or a recipe would be so greatly appreciated here. There is a oak and elm forest preserve near me. I haven't hunted it yet and morels may already be native there but I plan on adding spawn and slurry in a bunch of places including along the banks of a creek bordered by may of these trees.
How long did it take your grain spawn to fully innoculate for these morels?
Also, what type of morel culture did you use?....yellow?
I enjoyed this video and I think this experiment WILL succeed but from everything I have read they can take years. I believe you have provided a great habitat for them, replicating all the conditions that it takes for them to grow in the wild. I'm going to go check out some more of your videos in the mean time!!!
It was from a morchella importuna- I have since created more patches of other species including blondes - I can still see healthy mycelium but have not had any fruits the most success was from tiny pins that aborted. The spawn was very fast (2 weeks for colonization) still keeping my fingers crossed and will be elaborating again this fall! 🍄❤️
I hope someone unlocks the keys to this soon! It'd be quite a big step.

Same actually. Along with two other species of tree. I’ll be using a scarification method on the roots though before introducing a myco soak type application to see if there’s any better colonization rates. Similar experiment with hazlenuts and truffle was successful.

I’ve had success this past year with similar technique but everyone is missing the most important variable, except P Stamets. I finally figured it out after studying his method closely and am inoculating several farms here in Kansas. It’s not tree roots or specific trees but something else right around the environment. I didn’t see the variable I’m hinting at in your video here. Not giving away the secret but will see how yours fair in your follow up videos. Good luck!

we are sold out right now I might do another batch soon we just made some fresh spawn for a fall project and have another species as well in culture now

Covering a mature tree's root crown might suffocate it's roots, and you might end up with morels but also a dead tree

Chineses crop them without any trees !
Except morels spawn in the spring so don’t be disappointed if they don’t spawn in the fall just check back in the spring!

Can you grow them inside?
I have attempted and failed - they need to be frozen for a specific amount of time and there are other factors - that being said, there have been successful indoor operations it is very difficult to maintain morchella cultures long term like cordyceps but I believe with proper protocols it can be mastered

@@reecehinderaker2849 The best time for spawning is fall, this is so it can get established without drying out and then go through the winter freeze. Any time may work but fall is the most promising

Be careful with liquid culture, if it meets tap water it can mess up the mycelium. Make sure the water is distilled, it should not have alcohol inside
Not true (at least here in Denver the tap water works fine) I use tap water for every process and you can look at the results of my work on all of our social media accounts and later videos. I will be doing more updates this spring and going to plant a larger bed in the fall 2021 with more up-to-date research 🙂

Usually you want to inoculate during fall when temperatures doesn't rise above 80 degrees provided you add shade and a food source but I wish you luck you get something but I doubt it
Thanks for the feedback - I have tried fall spawning once with no success and will also spawn in the fall this year. My thoughts for the spring inoculation were that during the heat of the summer mycelium could spread and colonize to establish a larger area/my lawn. I have been dumping buckets of spore slurries here and there throughout the summer and will be starting up some sawdust spawn in larger bags for fall - doubling down and hoping for the miracle
@@FreshfromtheFarmFungi the heat can actually kill it if the soil dries out when you see morels in the woods what is different from a garden well alot of people don't understand symbiotic relationship of morels and trees it all starts in the fall leaves from the trees fall provide shade and insulation during winter over time those leaves will turn into humus which will provide a casing soil which later will create a micro humid climate to fruit morels in order increase your fruit body you need to leave a food source during fall when temperatures are below 70 degrees this is my third year growing morels and this year is the first that I successfully grown morels
david h Thanks for the info! I agree most of the ones I find are near leaf litter - I have been keeping the garden moist throughout the whole summer so hopefully some mycelium remains viable - I might do a followup in the fall hopefully we see some fruits in the following spring and Id love to see some pictures of your setup or an explanation in detail for your procedure. I believe it’s possible to crack the code for morels and even chanterelles or porcini if the right symbiosis is achieved 🙂

@@FreshfromtheFarmFungi my process starts first week of summer where I would make bulk substrate I skip grain masters and I do not do liquid culture agar to grain I let my spawn substrate incubate for about 2 months in a 70 degree room during that period it will produce scierotia which is the fruitbody for morel mushrooms when temperatures drop back down to 70s during thats when I plant the spawn I wait a week to trigger spawning then I lay down nutrient bags to increase the yield of the fruit body then there's the whole waiting game til spring when temperatures warm up again and start fruiting this took me about 3 years from novice to almost expert
My neighbor ordered some morel sawdust. It look like brand new sawdust. No change of color no mycelium. Does it sound like that he got anything or did somebody just sent him sawdust for $30. Not talking about you just found out about you you are our new Hope. But if it doesn’t look like what you have was it probably A con.
Sometimes the spawn can be disturbed during delivery and will look plain but if you let it sit in a box at room
temp for a few days it should colonize pretty quickly (3-4 days) and will look white to tan depending on the species of morels - hope this helps! Blues best mushrooms has good kits
