Elaina, I can really relate to your burnout situation. I have my own psychology practice and got to the point where I could not pick up the phone. Every time it rang I had a panic attack. I had crying spells, couldn't sleep for days, and then slept for 11 or 12 hours a night, and was exhausted emotionally and physically. I've since cut back my client numbers to a manageable level and hired someone to do the phone calls. It still took months to stop panicking every time I heard the phone ring. I'm so understanding of what you went through and I'm very grateful you shared this experience. It took a lot of courage. Be well.

We love watching your experiences, short or long, and it's obvious that you're enjoying what you do. Knowing your strict regiment of keeping the boat as light as possible while underway. They do make a water bladder system that is the same as the sand bag system.
Might be more your style while at sea. You can lighten the load while not in use and easily fill them when needed. Plus it keeps the sand off your gel coat while onboard.

Also, with water bags ... if you are ever in an emergency situation without water or the ability to make water, you have a built-in supply.

@@rongaskinsI would agree with you as long as they didn't empty them regularly after use. If they empty to keep the boat light and only fill up when needed then I think they will use salt water instead if precious fresh. But if they only need to empty for long passages then I don't see why it would hurt to use fresh, I guess it depends on how much water is needed.

Was watching a couple of the Series 1 vids. I wonder if you ever watch them because from there to here has been quite the adventure.
    All credit to you both.
One of the constants that shines though is your easy going nature with the people you meet and who come and visit. Never taking anything for granted.

For Lenny - in South Australia, Open Access is the old "school of the air" so it's online, Australian based curriculum.
They have an offsuit of that called "Inventorium".
We've just gone from completely unschooling to using Inventorium.
    They're FANTASTIC

Elena, I experienced true "burnout" last month and almost hospitalized myself because of how intense it was.
    Legitmate burnout is no joke.
I have two kids, did it all, never sat down and then every weekend would get more & more overstimulated/overwhelmed. The last 4 weeks beforehand, every weekend I'd say "I pushed myself too hard this time" & unconsciously to myself it was a WARNING that my cup had been dry for too long.
One day my mind just kind of shut down. First time in 6 years of parenthood that I spent a whole weekend in bed. Felt like a neverending panic attack. Being the default parent and being unable to do anything.
Now trying to get out of the depersonalization state and fear of it happening again.
You're doing amazing and hope you have every bit of support deserved.
Koodos to Riley for helping you through that

I had a similar experience with monkeys in India. They can be really aggressive. And if your children are potentially at risk, you do what you have to do to protect them. That was a scary scene. Glad you all came out of it without any worse injuries.

While you are looking for Mary Poppins, consider Montessori pedagogy. The early years of child development are so impressive. Finding some home Montessori pages to follow will help give you some great ideas of learning opportunities at home. Lenny and his knots all around the boat tell me he is already doing the work! As a former head of school, I can’t say enough about Montessori approach to learning ❤

Was a boat kid back in 2007 when comms were mostly VHF and some email at slow lan-houses. We would go on the VHF as soon as we got to an anchorage and ask if there were kids who wanted to play and very often buddy boating for several months with other families! Such a great time, I'm still in contact and good friends with several of them after so many years :) I think Sea People will make this so much easier, looking forward to using it!

Riley for your sandbags - I highly recommend rubber mulch+pea gravel instead of sand. Much less messy and still soft enough to throw on your shoulder and robust enough to throw down (when on solid ground)
