An excellent review. I have just returned from test driving the Model 3 Long Range and the BMW i4 M spec. on the same day here in England. To give you some context, we already have a BMW 3 and a 2020 BMW i3. We did like the i4 as it was a very smooth drive and has a premium quality feel, however, the moment we got in the Model 3, it felt user friendly and far more engaging to drive, more like a sports car. It's ironic because the i4 seemed more like a Jaguar. The BMW comes with relatively scant equipment compared to the Tesla. By the time the salesman specced it up to the level of the Tesla, the price became even more ludicrously expensive. Irrespective of price, we preferred the Tesla and ordered that in the rear wheel drive form knowing that there is the supercharger network for the occasional long trips.
Hi Tom. Thanks for the video, as always very interesting. I am just about the in receive my M3 LR. Do you know if remote live viewing (from phone) of the camera feeds while the car is parked is possible in Australia as it is in the US? Cheers David

Hi Tom, I see you showed that there is no external amplifier for MODEL3 sale in Australia, will it be available later? Are there any other functionalities that MODEL 3 RWD in Australia would NOT include, compare to other countries like China? I just ordered a model3 last month.
Hey Tom, do you know if there is a setting once the car is plugged into the home charger that it will auto charge stop and start as a threshold is set for my PV solar system, for example, if my solar is sending back to the grid 5k then the charger knows to start charging using the 5kw and if the sun goes out and I start pulling something like 2k from the grid then the charger automatically turns off and waits till my solar is producing excess solar and the charger will automatically start again
Currently (Feb 2022) the Tesla app does not natively allow this. You have two options: Hardware: Zappi or Software: ChargeHQ (beta development in Feb 2022)
Great review, i think it would be best if don or you drove the car and gave your thoughts. Perhaps don drive it avoid any uncomfortable situations and give us a review but all in all solid review man!
Hi Tom thanks for a great and interesting review. I forgot to thank you for your last great video about app functionality/hints… would’ve never found some of it without your help. In this video you did mention some 5% range difference with the Aero caps. Is it tested / confirmed anywhere? I found some videos in the past and I thought the difference was minimal more like 1%? Anyhow keep up the great work 👍 thanks
Hi Tom, great review as always! Do you think the Intel Atom chip will be able to sustain the fluidity it has right now? Or will it just not get updates from Tesla. I’m getting buyers remorse as I got my m3 a month ago and it has the Intel.
@@LudicrousFeed Tesla cars have three different computer systems. The three computer systems communicate with each other but they are run on different sets of hardware and have different functions. Autopilot and FSD run on the HW3 system. HW3 uses a Tesla-designed chip that is manufactured by Samsung. The HW3 chip has been designed to run the convolutional neural nets that does the semi-autonomous driving of AP and FSD. It doesn't run any other software. The user interface chip (AMD or Intel) runs the user interface. The 3rd computer system runs the drive train and battery management systems.
Nice car - looks identical to mine but 6 months newer, with the bigger battery and the heated rear seats and steering wheel. Not jealous at all!!! Mine also seems to have a darker tint to the roof glass, certainly than I was expecting but its a good thing for Greece in summer.
Nice video Tom, I got my M3 RWD last week and bit hesitant keeping the car at 100% SOC when it is parked. (I mostly work from home so don't drive much). Tesla manual is vague about LFP SOC during long term parking so I contacted the Tesla support and this was their reply. Hi, Thank you for contacting Tesla support. If your vehicle has been parked for longer than a week, Tesla recommends you charge the vehicle to 100% and keep the vehicle plugged in, this way you would be able to preserve the High Voltage and Low Voltage (12V) Battery. Hope this helps you. Thanks for being a part of Tesla community. Regards, ****** General belief is that LFP batteries should only charge to 100% once a week and should not keep at 100% soc all the time. But Tesla's suggestion here goes against that.
Yes agreed there is possibly some confusion on this matter. Perhaps I can do some research and maybe even cross reference BYD Blade which also uses LFP
Strange James May did a video on drivetribe that showed his model s was at 100% but it wasn’t charging the 12v battery because the car was at 100% so it died and he had to trickle charge the 12v before he could get into the car. I think keeping it at 95-99 is probably what I would do for these reasons and also I never have to think about regen braking being on or not
I'm pretty sure LFP can be charged to 100% all the time without any downside as tesla support stated. limiting factor on youtube has great videos on Tesla and batteries which a few going quite in depth on LFP. Also I saw a video before that regen works even at 100% for LFP batteries. I'll get my LFP M3 next week, then I would be able to confirm if that's the case.
Thanks Tom and Don. I am now more excited than ever as I await my Model 3 RWD, which is also white. I just love the contrast of the black trim on the white. Living in Melbourne the heated steering wheel will be a well used feature, although I was dissapointed to hear that there is no boombox. I had hoped to have some fun by playing the sound of an old Ford model T as I make my way out of my street to confuse the neighbours and have a laugh; still there are heaps of other things to play with. I thought I read somewhere that the standard charger with the 15Amp tail, could be used on a 30Amp circuit. Do you or anyone following your channel know if that's the case? I also think the heavier roof tint is great. I test drove a 2021 and that roof seemed pretty well tinted, so this would be perfect for me as I am not a sun lover, hence why I live in Melbourne. :) Also, like Don, I am looking forward to putting my solar panels to full use as well as my Powerwall2 that I had installed a couple of months ago. I seem to have 5 to 6Kw spare power the next morning and it seems a shame not to make use of it. Enjoy the new toy Don. Congrats. :)
I’ll have to find out more about the 30A circuit but you can purchase a 5-pin tail that’s compatible with the UMC to charge up to 7kW as an alternative to purchasing a wall connector. I have a review in my catalogue 🙂👍
Hi. Nice review. I have actually ordered my own red colored long range model 3. Since you mentioned about the LFP battery, would you have any idea if the long range has the LFP battery as well? Cheers
Don, I would recommend getting 1) type2 to type 2 cable and 2) 3phase tail for the granny charger, that way you can get a 3p outlet in your house and charge at 7kw. This is a lot cheaper than a full wall charger
@@levithetrainspotter9457 if I get electrician to do What do I tell him to do? And what do I need on my end to connect my standard charger that comes with my tesla? Do I need to by anything else? Your help is much appreciated
Hi Tom, do you know if the view live sentry feature on your iPhone is available in Australia yet. Can’t see any prompts to activate yet on the car or the iPhone.

Tom, can you please answer this question in your upcoming video comparing the 2021 and 2022 M3 - Has Tesla overcome the (very big) problem of phantom braking in the 2022 M3? I have a January 2021 built Model 3 SR+ and the phantom braking is shocking. Living hundreds of kilometres north of Brisbane, we do a lot of highway and motorway driving. Sadly, we have frequent phantom braking incidents - and this is very dangerous as it massively increases the risk of being rear-ended. Only yesterday, in the rain, the brakes were slammed on at 110 km/hr, for absolutely no reason. The cars behind had to slam on their brakes to avoid crashing into us. This is extremely dangerous, but unfortunately it keeps happening. This makes our otherwise great EV, somewhat disappointing - has this been resolved in the 2022 M3, which unlike my car, uses a fully camera system, instead of cameras and radar. Thanks in advance.
@@LudicrousFeed Many thanks Tom. I'm very supportive of the transition away from burning fossil fuels, including EVs. I think that Tesla is a leader (that's why I bought one!) - but phantom braking is a HUGE problem that puts Tesla drivers and passengers at risk of injury. I notice this more than the average motorist because the overwhelming majority of my driving is on roads with speed limits of either 100 or 110 KMs/hr (where phantom braking is nore likely to occur). Thanks in advance, Phil
Cheers, I have the “Unicorn” version and has 436-441kms range at 100% SOC. Just wondering if the 2022 has better efficiency in real world due to more efficient motor
Thanks for the video. I picked up my car this Monday and have noticed all 4 windows squeak when opening/closing . Is this normal for Tesla? Should I send in for service check or just buy some lubricant
Hi. I live in UK and my windows squeak after it’s been raining. Apparently you can use Gummi Pflege Stift (which is German and is available on Amazon) on the window surrounds to temporarily cure the squeaking
Thanks Tom, I might have a chance to get my hands on display/demo M3 RWD 2021 with small discount, and I've placed booking for new M3 RWD with 7 months waiting time. Is it worth going for the display/demo unit? Besides tail light, can I confirm these are the 2 major differences between 2021 and 2022 models: 1. Amd Ryzen chip (is it worth waiting for this, significant enhancement?) 2. Side camera upgrade, big impact??
I’ll have to do a night time test with the 2022 cars to see the benefit of the repeater camera upgrade. Personally I’d want the newer car given all the improved features!
The white is such a stunning colour but my only gripe (and the reason I didn’t choose white) is that there are so many of them so I chose the the solid black. Would prefer Tesla bump up pricing across the range which would limit the dominance of one colour. Just my opinion. Don’t @ me 😂
I would've gone for something other than white if the alternatives were only say $3-500 more.... Actually one of the few cars I think looks good on white though. Like futuristic somehow.
Numerous tests and measurements decisevly show that double glazing does absolutely nothing to reduce noise in model 3. It is just as noisy as previously.
@@gregb1599 yeah, absolutely. Although the bit I would rather lose in summer is the glass roof to be honest. I got the sunshade from tesla but you still feel the heat radiating.. Reckon the AC would have an easier time with a proper roof too.
@@--Nath-- Well the absolute crazy thing is that the upcoming Ora Good Cat GT with it fully optioned has heated, ventilated and massage seats, even facial recognition memory seats including the rear view mirrors! As well as a 360 camera. And it's still going to be $20k cheaper than the Model 3. I know the Model 3 has memory seats as well but still impressive for a budget Chinese EV!

is charging difficult in sydney ? I live in an apartment and just wondering if it is hard to find the charging stations or if they are putting news around sydney etc. Love the video by the way.

Thanks for the video! Very helpful. I am waiting for mine. Just curious when did he order the M3? I ordered mine just over a month ago.
🙂👍
Don here: ordered 17/12/21. Build date 10/01/22. Thanks
Hi Tom. Thanks for the video, as always very interesting. I am just about the in receive my M3 LR. Do you know if remote live viewing (from phone) of the camera feeds while the car is parked is possible in Australia as it is in the US?

Great video, thanks Tom and Don. Only a couple more months for me too. One question though, are Tesla still giving out the Telsa number plate frames? Don's car doesn't have them but other the recent video Scott's car does? Keep up the great videos.

Hi Tom, I see you showed that there is no external amplifier for MODEL3 sale in Australia, will it be available later? Are there any other functionalities that MODEL 3 RWD in Australia would NOT include, compare to other countries like China? I just ordered a model3 last month.
We still don’t have live sentry mode in Australia (Feb 2022)
Hi Tom. You should do a comparison between a 2022 and a late 2021 Model 3 RWD (aka Unicorn).
Thanks Marc I’ll try to organise
Hey Tom, do you know if there is a setting once the car is plugged into the home charger that it will auto charge stop and start as a threshold is set for my PV solar system, for example, if my solar is sending back to the grid 5k then the charger knows to start charging using the 5kw and if the sun goes out and I start pulling something like 2k from the grid then the charger automatically turns off and waits till my solar is producing excess solar and the charger will automatically start again
Currently (Feb 2022) the Tesla app does not natively allow this. You have two options:
Hardware: Zappi
or
Software: ChargeHQ (beta development in Feb 2022)

Hi Tom thanks for a great and interesting review. I forgot to thank you for your last great video about app functionality/hints… would’ve never found some of it without your help. In this video you did mention some 5% range difference with the Aero caps. Is it tested / confirmed anywhere? I found some videos in the past and I thought the difference was minimal more like 1%? Anyhow keep up the great work 👍 thanks
How much range you gain with the aero covers depends on your average speed. From what I’ve read online, the saving varies between 3-5%

Hey tom, just curious why you reset the tesla? What does it do? (sorry if this is an ev noob question haha)
You’ll learn to love the reset manoeuvre 😉
First question of IT support: have you tried turning it off and on? 😆
Hoping that when mine arrives in May it has the rear double glazing. Fingers crossed. Ordering in January might be the factor unfortunately.

Hi Tom, great review as always! Do you think the Intel Atom chip will be able to sustain the fluidity it has right now? Or will it just not get updates from Tesla. I’m getting buyers remorse as I got my m3 a month ago and it has the Intel.
It’ll still get updates. Elon Musk originally said FSD would be (eventually) available for those with HW3 which was Intel at the time
@@LudicrousFeed thanks! I’m pretty sure the FSD hardware is different from the Intel/amd chip?
@@joyalpatel6000 I see what you’re saying. I guess time will tell
I wanted to reach out and inform you that we currently have some fantastic deals on our eBay listing.
Does it have matrix headlights?
Presumably so but would need to be tested
Nice car - looks identical to mine but 6 months newer, with the bigger battery and the heated rear seats and steering wheel. Not jealous at all!!! Mine also seems to have a darker tint to the roof glass, certainly than I was expecting but its a good thing for Greece in summer.
I’m glad that there are improvements with each batch of cars ☺️
Nice video Tom, I got my M3 RWD last week and bit hesitant keeping the car at 100% SOC when it is parked. (I mostly work from home so don't drive much). Tesla manual is vague about LFP SOC during long term parking so I contacted the Tesla support and this was their reply.
Hi,
Thank you for contacting Tesla support.
Regards,
******
General belief is that LFP batteries should only charge to 100% once a week and should not keep at 100% soc all the time.
@@itsmeQuiK Yes I did not notice any reduction in regeneration breaking when battery is 100%
@@LudicrousFeed Yes, If you can do a dedicated video about this that would be great Tom.
Also, like Don, I am looking forward to putting my solar panels to full use as well as my Powerwall2 that I had installed a couple of months ago.
I wanted to reach out and inform you that we currently have some fantastic deals on our eBay listing.
Thanks for that. Pretty much exactly the car I’ll be getting in March
You’re going to ❤️ it
Hi. Nice review. I have actually ordered my own red colored long range model 3. Since you mentioned about the LFP battery, would you have any idea if the long range has the LFP battery as well? Cheers
Only the RWD Model 3 has the LFP battery at this stage (Mar 2022)
Thanks

Love the white with black licence plates. Hoping when I get the black licence plates with white writing it looks just as good on a black car.

Don, I would recommend getting 1) type2 to type 2 cable and 2) 3phase tail for the granny charger, that way you can get a 3p outlet in your house and charge at 7kw. This is a lot cheaper than a full wall charger
Good tip Paul
Don here: i have a Gen3 installed at home & have already bought the type2 as well 👍
Is the type 2 cable for chargers which don't have their own?

Hi Tom, do you know if the view live sentry feature on your iPhone is available in Australia yet. Can’t see any prompts to activate yet on the car or the iPhone.
Not yet sadly (Mar 2022)
I was talking to the Tesla Rep at my local Tesla Dealership and he informed that the tinting is indeed darker and blocks out a lot of the UV Rays, making it safer for us Aussies in our harsh environment.
Wow there you go!
Hi Tom, have you compared the 0-100km/hr between the SR+ vs the Rear Wheel? Is there much difference in real world contrary to what is shown on paper?
If someone wants to volunteer their cars at the track then we could do a real world test 😉
I can find out for you once I get my RWD in July hopefully 🙏
Thanks for the suggestion Phil, I’ll see if I can come up with an interesting way to test this
@@LudicrousFeed Many thanks Tom.
Great video. Do you know what the max range displayed on screen at 100% SOC for 2022 RWD?
Don here: iirc it was 439
Cheers, I have the “Unicorn” version and has 436-441kms range at 100% SOC. Just wondering if the 2022 has better efficiency in real world due to more efficient motor
Nice. Getting mine next month. Cant wait

Thanks for the video. I picked up my car this Monday and have noticed all 4 windows squeak when opening/closing . Is this normal for Tesla? Should I send in for service check or just buy some lubricant
Maybe do a few cycles of up and down as I can imagine it might be a bit squeaky right at the start, I didnt notice anything much...
@@--Nath-- thanks will try tmr. Not sure if the rainy weather here in syd is contributing to this.
Hi. I live in UK and my windows squeak after it’s been raining. Apparently you can use Gummi Pflege Stift (which is German and is available on Amazon) on the window surrounds to temporarily cure the squeaking
@@keepfitbunny9919 thanks ordering it now :)
Heated wipers in Oz, what's that all about. Here in the UK we're not offered that on a M3. Dear Elon ...
Thanks Tom, I might have a chance to get my hands on display/demo M3 RWD 2021 with small discount, and I've placed booking for new M3 RWD with 7 months waiting time.
Is it worth going for the display/demo unit?
Besides tail light, can I confirm these are the 2 major differences between 2021 and 2022 models:
1. Amd Ryzen chip (is it worth waiting for this, significant enhancement?)
Don’t @ me 😂
I too wouldn’t mind seeing more diversity in colour too!
I would've gone for something other than white if the alternatives were only say $3-500 more.... Actually one of the few cars I think looks good on white though. Like futuristic somehow.
love the car
🙏🙂
Numerous tests and measurements decisevly show that double glazing does absolutely nothing to reduce noise in model 3. It is just as noisy as previously.
Thanks
Heated seats and steering wheel: the least used feature in Australia.
Yeah would of thought ventilated would be better especially for vegan leather (vinyl) seats that can get toasty hot!
@@gregb1599 yeah, absolutely. Although the bit I would rather lose in summer is the glass roof to be honest. I got the sunshade from tesla but you still feel the heat radiating.. Reckon the AC would have an easier time with a proper roof too.
Heated seats are fantastic if you have a sore back lol, about the only time I've used them.
