So we can expect to see visuals as nice as this fairly typically by the mid 2030s. However there's always games that push the graphics sooner, sometimes targeting those top tier 1% of gamers. It's not necessarily about being able to make a game with this level of fidelity, it's more like now Unity can be more of a competitor in the filmmaking world where Unreal has dominance.
Looks fantastic. Hopefully you folks keep improving and stop letting corporate mismanagement determine what you do! Been with Unity for years and hope to stick with the Engine and help it grow. That being said; People whining about the demo "using assets noone will ever be able to replicate" miss the point of independent game development. You don't have to replicate what you are seeing in the demo, it is just showing what could be capable with the right team. If you are an independent developer, don't let people who have never touched the engine tell you how to work, but also try to not bloat your projects with AAA-style visuals and mechanics. Start small; make a few small games you intend to either have for free, or put up for a few bucks (if you sold a five dollar game to 100 people, you are still making out $500, and just look at how many people buy some really, REALLY bad games). Do your own thing and keep learning / progressing forward!
You guys should help BSG bringing this photorealistic quality to life on their FPS shooter... it's the only FPS shooter developed on Unity that worths (and deserves) this kind of sponsor, that could help Unity clear its name after the "runtime installation fee" fiasco
"Time Ghost, developed with an unmodified Unity 6 engine, was showcased at Unite Barcelona 2024 running on a PC equipped with an Intel Core i9-14900K CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU." The problem is not the performance of the HW, in five years we'll be laughing at that rig. The problem is to make a game of that quality with respect to budget and man-hours. Skyrim in this graphics, physics, interaction would probably need the work of more than 1000 people for 6+ years for at least 500 mega USD, innit.
im not sure exactly what pint your making, but if i understand you correctly, i believe this was too showcase the general power of unity 6, not necessarily what it can be for game dev. i dont mean to take a stab i might just be fully misunderstanding what your saying
@@MaceoKeefe So Unity has turned into primarily about creating non-interactive movie videos ? Sarcasm. I repeat. Software and HW today is clearly outpacing the ability of dev teams to absorb their capabilities, and they don't have the money to do it at all.
Insane! The battle scene was awesome, reminiscent of recent WW1 movies. The dirt falling on the character after being shelled was really cool. Plus the hair. But I am really blown away by the sweeping environments. Unity is back and better than ever!
I didn't realize that such beautiful graphics could be achieved in Unity! I hope you can share this with many indie game developers. There are likely many who are satisfied with graphics reminiscent of the PlayStation 1, so this could be an opportunity to broaden their possibilities.
The biggest problem for indies is time and creating assets of this quality level takes a huge amount of time. And also, this will not run on commodity hardware. You need a super computer. I am willing to bet that that is not even a real time render.
The issue is not the beautiful graphics itself but how to make the most beautiful graphics with the lowest resources. Also how good your engine can handle high poly objects.

It's not necessarily about being able to make a game with this level of fidelity, it's more like now Unity can be more of a competitor in the filmmaking world where Unreal has dominance.
Rooted the game, they do with bag
it’s how the game dev uses the engine not unity’s fault
This visuals are some of the most delicious things I've seen
*This is exactly the trip you need to take every time you want to go to the Acropolis in Athens, Greece* 😂
WE CREATE GOTY WITH THIS ONE !!!🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥
This is really amazing
Amazing in so many ways. The sleek camera motion at 3:31 shows that this was clearly directed and executed by an excellent creative team.
This looks incredible indeed^^
You guys should help BSG bringing this photorealistic quality to life on their FPS shooter... it's the only FPS shooter developed on Unity that worths (and deserves) this kind of sponsor, that could help Unity clear its name after the "runtime installation fee" fiasco
Get ready for the bait and switch from Unity.
Just incredible. I hust hope one day we can get these realistic animations in an actual game OUTSIDE of the cutscenes… for faces too
"Time Ghost, developed with an unmodified Unity 6 engine, was showcased at Unite Barcelona 2024 running on a PC equipped with an Intel Core i9-14900K CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU."
The problem is not the performance of the HW, in five years we'll be laughing at that rig.
This was so beautiful the hair the landscapes everything, just beautiful
Insane! The battle scene was awesome, reminiscent of recent WW1 movies. The dirt falling on the character after being shelled was really cool. Plus the hair. But I am really blown away by the sweeping environments. Unity is back and better than ever!
Tech demo are always better than what we can really expect, if you doubt, just look at older techs.
2:50 looks like it could be a frame from a movie! Amazing.
Interestingly, you can see culling in the background in just few seconds later. White objects showing.
Me, who never left unity❤❤, just sipping a drink as i enjoy this
Same here brother, thanks for keeping the faith in Unity!!
Honestly, there's no way to leave Unity. You just know multiple engines in the end 🙂
@@Shodan-0101 same to you man
I'm keeping faith in unity since 2018 when I first started to code back when I was 11 years old
Yep, me either!
Me encanta como Unity está logrando convertirse en un motor tan poderoso y sigue siendo adaptable a la vez gráficos simples 👌👌🔥
Ah, another demo of features we all wish would actually exist... 😉
The demo team is excellent though, kudos!
This is unmodified Unity 6, the hair and some other custom tools, as well as several of the scenes will be available for download in October.
@@markschoennagel5076 lol
@@juancarlosgzrzconsidering I’ve been showing people at Unite the project all day in the Editor I’m curious what you think is lol?
If you want to be competitive you need to innovate! It is the only way!
@@bertilorickardspelarwell considering you have software to automatically do the tessellation for you, and a lot better than you. Led range PCs and even consoles should be able to achieve graphical fidelity not to far off from this demo despite the lack of raw power.
@@balloonb0y677 Tesselation is not the problem, production is. To create high quality realistic assets is highly time consuming even with the best tools. That may not be relevant for much longer if progress keeps going in the various AI fields but for now it still is.
@@bertilorickardspelar yeah but tessellation was always a huge time consumer. Now it’s gone. And with AI making assets now just makes it all the less time consuming. Although there will always be a need for actual human interaction to make specific decisions on how something is made
Wow!!! 🔥Really loved this one!! The Tiger really piqued my interest, so beautiful! Well done Unity, you guys are pixel magicians!
😍still a BIG FAN BOY since UNITY 4. Stunning graphic with productive, clean workflows are the best dream I wish for UNITY 6 and so on. Let's make UNITY be better guys, please :)
The story of a soldier who knows that continued running is a death sentence, seeing how his mates fall, so he decided to hide till the storm is over. Then, once it's safe, he travels to their destination; old ruins, where he meets another soldier who thankfully is alive. Now, they once again face whatever their journey brings, together.
Another great example of "show, don't tell"
Fun Fact: you can do this in UE5 for free at home
Since 2020
seriously? I would love to see you make it, after all, you made a really awesome fps game test in just a week
@@R4v3nB14ck thank you I really appreciate that :)
You can do that in unity as well since at least 2019
@@truesosense7722no
Just.. wow! There is so much to say to qualify it but.. I want to leave it as it is, it speaks by itself! Very impressive!
I'm glad Unity is finally back to focus more on gamedev, cancelling the runtime fee and working on the technology to make game like that, I've watched the keynote and that's a good serie of step in the right direction!
This demo was prob made by a large team of skilled artist in at least 6 months. Plus the fact that most of that pipeline was build outside Unity. Unity is just doing the rendering.
@@tatoforever Except for the physics, the lighting, possibly animation. Essentially the same way a video game is made. Assets made in another program and rendered through the game engine.
can't wait for the all the retro style games to come from this new version
This is great! I got so tired that all the investors now ask for UE, now I finally can pitch a game on Unity without being question that it won't look good! Great job!
Really like the uniform design.
As an absolute diehard unreal guy, I can say I am pleasantly surprised! As long as results are good, use the game engine you want to! Props to Unity for this and their full rollback of all that crap they said they were gonna do!
